Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
Re: Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
Holding them for a few years serves a purpose. It ruins them as a contact for other terrorists. It puts them back a few notches on their own plans (if they had them). And gives us a chance to extract info from them to catch more would be assassins. But still, you havent told me what we should be doing. Seriosly, as flawed as Gitmo may be, give me a better choice? Oh wait, there isnt one.

And how do you know what there plans were or were not? Did you ask them? Were you there? Was he your best friend from high school? Oh yeh, you read it in some american hating news article and it told you they were perfect angels beeing held down by the man.

Re: Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
So if the American government releases a man and someone reports it that's American hating?
Therefore, by such reasoning, the American Government is self hating.
What the fuck are you on? Give me some.

No but spinning it as "They held him for 4 years for no reason" could be.Nick wrote:So if the American government releases a man and someone reports it that's American hating?
Wasn't aware that the US gov't had a media wing...Nick wrote:Therefore, by such reasoning, the American Government is self hating.

Except its not, that's fact. Btw.No but spinning it as "They held him for 4 years for no reason" could be.
Re: Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
There had to be a reason to nab him in the first place. Why else would it have been done? Even if all he did was piss in someones wheaties, that is in fact a reson. So lets speak in facts if that is what you wish. I didnt read the article (cause I'm a lazy bastard) did it say why he was actually picked up (I'm guessing it didnt)?Nick wrote:Except its not, that's fact. Re: Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
Grats.
In many cases, the detainees at Guantanamo arrived there for a fairly disgusting reason (that, for once, is not the fault of the Americans- partially).
After the Afghan invasion, the US put out bounties out for "anyone associated with Al'Quaida". A number of opportunistic Afghan men (from warlords to common Janitors/whatever) reported entirely innocent men, simply because the bounty was of the equivalent of about 15 years salary.
That is how many of the Guantanamo detainees arrived there. That is not "a reason". Evidence was not necessary, unproven testimony was (this, now becomes America's fault).
There are undoubtedly Al'Quaida men in Gitmo, that doesn't mean shit. All it means is that due process isn't considered a relevant issue to what is (hypocritically and laughably) the country (the USA) that proclaims freedom/human rights and liberty as its core motto. That's why its bullshit.
The fact that a lot of men who were entirely innocent, have been proven to be entirely innocent and have been proven to be pawns in a larger, ill thought out, ill advised, stupidly led hypocritical American game, is merely the tragic downside of a superpower sacrificing basic human rights for political propoganda aims.
Propoganda that fuckwits like you and Midnyte fall for, because you're far too fucking lazy to seperate fact from fiction. Awareness is more important than blind patriotism. The fact anyone should have to mention it shows how deluded some of you have become.

Re: Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
So full disclosure not released... ACEO of a company that funded terrorists... Sounds like there was a reason. Not enough paper trail to make a 'conviction', so they released him I suppose. And that very in depth article (not) gos to great lenghts to give the whole story. Actually you copypasta'd the whole damn article wich was all about how bad they were to him... so again, we are left with the spin.
Now if the article explained why he was in there in the first place and had to be released on a technicality, would you be still singing the same tune? Perhaps the phrase 'spin' is a bit above your youngish understanding. You must learn young jedi, to read between the lines, the writer is going to 'spin' his article to fit his rosey picture of the world, whether it be for or against. And by blindly hanging on his every word, you subject yourself to brainwashing (wich incedently led to me voting for clinton!~) Someone who really wanted to know what was what in the world would read articles from both sides of an issue. Find a version of this from some law and order, militant right, or army press writer and then perhaps, you could put together the whole story.

So an afgan janitor pointed a finger at a man in the sudan? That's one long finger....
Do I fall for propaganda? perhaps. Do you? Most definatly.
Seperate fact from fiction. are you sure that you are? I mean really sure? It seems to me you blot out anything you dont agree with and expose those that you do. That is propagating propaganda. Not just falling for it.
Patriotism. If you dont make your country the best place to live, then what the fuck are you thinking? Awareness. See above.
Do I believe innocents can be caught up in all of this. YES. But what that whole daiseys and lilacs bit refers to, is you must accept the bad with the good. It isn't perfect, nothing can be. But to close Gitmo and release everyone will lead to more instances of "ex-gitmo detainee blows up people" stories that I'm happy to live without. Until you can think of something better, then deal with the inadequacies of what exsists, and live your life to it's fullest.

Re: Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
So we wrongfully imprisoned one guy for four years, and let another guy, who then blew people up, go? Sounds like we're batting 100.
Re: Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
Hint: More than 2 people have been released from Guantanamo bay.
Can we, for even one moment, ignore Americentric bullshit like " batting 100" - you know....just so that we can....live in the real world.
Thanks.

Sorry, I'm an American, thus the "we." I guess you didn't understand, but I was pointing out that the point of Guantanamo failed: an entirely innocent man was imprisoned for years, and we let someone who was actually a terrorists go. I think Guantanamo is a abortion of justice. I have been against it since I found out existed, and voted for people who feel the same way. What do you want me to do?Can we, for even one moment, ignore Americentric bullshit like " batting 100" - you know....just so that we can....live in the real world.

Re: Sudanese reporter freed from Guantanamo
Fight against the people in your country who don't think Guantanamo is a bad thing.
Apart from that...well....werd brother.

Just wanted to point out that this means nothing.Aardor wrote:Sounds like we're batting 100.
Batting Averages are expressed in decimal form. A perfect batting average would be 1.000, which is commonly referred to as "Batting a thousand."
I guess if you wanted to be real obscure, you could say we're batting 100%.
"Batting a hundred" would be .100 or 10%. Which wouldn't make any statistical sense whatsoever since only 2 cases were cited as examples.
Back to your regularly scheduled bickering with complete disregard of any actual facts or substance.
