Clintons pouring cash into her flailing campaign

Post by Xatrei »

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24501501/

It's been revealed that the Clintons loaned Hillary's campaign an additional $6.4 million last month, bringing their current total to well over $11 million. On her campaign's conference call this morning, it was strongly implied that they are willing to pour even more cash into her campaign going forward to make up for declining contributions.

What I want to know is why isn't anyone demanding some details on where their money is actually coming from? It's widely speculated (and in some cases known) that much of Bill's income has come from sources that may prove embarrassing to the Clintons. If the details are revealed, I suspect it's likely that we'll learn that this is an indirect cash infusion from all kinds of special interests and foreign powers.

Yeah this sounds like a campaign finance loophole and a huge waste of money!

And why is she calling it a 'loan'? does she intend to steal it back from the national treasury once she's emporer... I mean president?

Probably so she can declare it as a loss on next years taxes... ? Knowing her, I'm sure there's a dubious reason behind it.

Did Mitt 'loan' to his campaign?

It's not really uncommon for people, including the candidates themselves, to loan money to a campaign. These loans are usually to make up for a cash shortage with repayment to be made from future fund raising. It's also not out of the ordinary for a campaign to have significant long-term debt. John Glenn's $3 million campaign debt from 1984 which took over 20 years to retire is an often cited example of this. The campaign committee can continue to raise money to settle debt long after she campaign has ended. The Clinton's $11.4 million loans to her campaign are just a part of its total debt. What I don't know is whether funds that were raised for her general election campaign can be used to retire debt accumulated during the primary once she withdraws from the race. I would think not, but election law is pretty convoluted at times. I don't know if it can be written off at some point in the future, either.

Good stuff from David Letterman:
"Hillary Clinton barely won my home state of Indiana. And she lost in the State of North Carolina. But here is the good news. She has a substantial lead in the state of denial... I ’m no pundit but it occurred to me that Hillary Clinton has one thing in common with President Bush. Neither of them has an exit strategy."
