Mario Kart Wii

Post by Funkmasterr »

Got it sat night and have played quite a bit since then, it's a lot of fun! It follows the normal mario kart formula pretty closely, and throws a few new things in like motorcycles and stunts that can give you a bit of a speed boost.

I will write more later maybe, but I'm really irritated with it now and was hoping someone has an answer to my question:

After getting first place in all cups on 50cc and 100cc it told me I could now play them with bikes or karts (you can only use one or the other at first), however I can find no way to do this.. Anyone know how?

Fun as always. However, I'm taking a big issue with the fact that Mario Kart games always contain rehashed tracks from previous games in the series. I played this at a friend's house the other day and I had played several of the tracks before. When I got home and looked up the info, it has 32 tracks, of which only 16 are original? Jesus Christ Nintendo. I can stand them rehashing Zelda, Mario, and Metroid over and over and over as long as they add new content and make fun, original games, but recyceling old content is a little different and hard to give them a free pass on. Unfortunately, it's a tradition with Mari Kart games now.

Also, what they did to Battle Mode is complete bullshit. Un-fucking-forgivable.

I think 16 new tracks for a Mario Kart game is perfectly fine, it's Mario Kart, not Gran Turismo.

What was your issue with battle mode? I only played one of the modes, but I liked it just fine.

So much fun! 16 new tracks is great and while the tweaks to the other 16 could have been better in some cases the game is flat out a blast (except Koopa Kape, that one suxxors because I can't do better than 3rd). DK mountain and Maple Treeway being my favorite 2 courses... running up and downhill 90% out of control and looking like an idiot on the couch leaning this way and that... great fun for everyone.

I bought this last week, and then ended up giving it to my nephew for his first communion before I played it.

Are the Wii Wheels necessary to play? Do they do anything other than just hold the Wiimote?

Is this as much fun as Mario Kart 64 was? I loved that game, though I was in early college and smoking lots of ganj and racing my friends all the time, so that could have been part of the fun.

The wheel basically just holds the Wiimote, but if you are going to use the wiimote for controls I would suggest using the wheel. For some reason holding just the wiimote didn't work too well for me but the wheel worked well, and it comes with the game so you'll have one anyhow.

Actually though the controls suck on the Wiimote, I would suggest using a classic controller, or a gamecube controller (what I use) as they are much easier to control.

I think it is as much fun as any of the other mario games, there is a big variety of tracks to play on (even if half are from older games) and the controls (drifting, etc) if put on manual are the same as ever.

I did the first contest last night which is to go for the best time on the mario circuit.. I got one I thought was real well (I didn't get hit with anything and hauled ass the whole race) and I was at like 3 minutes 1 second, and the number 1 spot was like 2 minutes 30 seconds.. lol, so I wasn't as close as I thought. The top 10 was dominated by Japanese!

You'll actually be able to play several of the exact same courses that were on the N64 version. While a track here and there would have nostalgic fun, having 16 tracks that I already own on several other versions of the game is beyond redundant. There is an origanl SNES track that I swear has been on every version of Mario Kart for the past 15 years.

And Funk, battle mode used to be a 3 balloon battle, last man standing. It's been that way for every single release of the game. Now it's unlimited balloons and you're racing against a timer to simply get the most hits on others. Lame as fuck.

Racing online is well. Also, DLing other people's ghosts to race against is a nice port over from the DS version. The fact that my DS version can give the Wii version a run for it's money in the graphics department is a little sad IMO.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really like it when sequels recycle tracks / maps. I've often played a sequel and thought "boy, I wish I could use (new feature) on (map from previous edition)." I don't want all recycling obviously, but sometimes old maps were actually really good, and I like the nostalgia.

Racing games ALWAYS recycle tracks. Especially racing sims, because they're recreating actual EXISTING tracks.

I don't know why you're pissing your diaper over this one.

Well, when you put it that way, I think including a spot-on recreation of the actual mushroom circut is completely justified so that we can experiance it exactely as it is in real life.

I finally played rainbow road last night... I think I fell off the edge 20 times!
