I hear about the RRoD problem, among other problems and I'm assuming microsoft won't fix a 360 if I'm a second owner.
Hell, who's to say somebody wouldn't just sell a broken one in the first place?
Exactly how common is this RRoD? I know I should buy a new 360, but I'm poor, I *just* paid off my credit cards and don't want to go down that road, and I really really want GTA4
My 360 was a second hand. I bought it off my sister-in-law. When it RRoD I just told them I had no idea who that person was and it must be a mistake. They fixed it.
While I might consider buying one from someone I knew I surely wouldn't purchase a used one from out on eBay. What's to say that it wasn't banned from XBox Live? I'm sure it's not that good of a deal anyway. Save up a little longer and just go new. The warranty alone against RRoD is worth it.

I agree 100% with everything it just said, it's just not worth it in the end.
It's also worth noting that I have spoke to very few people who have had issues with the Elite 360's. I've had mine for over a year and still no issues.
If you buy a 360 and GTA4 at Best Buy, then you get a $50 gift card, which you can put towards a PS3!
No RRoD here, and I'm still on my first 360 (launch day box... knock on wood). Not sure I know anyone else who still has their original box though. The only hiccup I had was with the optical drive, but cleaning the lens seemed to do the trick.

I do! I've been waiting and waiting for a new 360 model to come out that looked good enough to buy as a legit machine for Live. With all the issues, they should have a 360-2 redesigned version. I think all they've done so far is improve the heat sinks (and they've used many different DVD drives with some being slightly quieter than the originals)
THe PS3's Blu Ray drive is whisper quiet. All I hear is the fan on the PS3.
For all of Microsoft's denial, the Xbox 360 Blu-ray console rumors just will not die. In fact, they are getting more and more specific. The Chinese language Economic Daily News is reporting that Pegatron, an OEM subsidiary of ASUS, has won the order from Microsoft to assemble the Xbox 360 with Blu-ray Disc ROM drive -- shipments are expected to begin in Q3 of this year. Now come on Microsoft, just come clean on the matter, we won't tell anyone.
I hope it's true. Maybe the machine will have other design improvments as well for noise/heat.
I would hope that MS also offered a stand-alone BR addon for the existing 360's alongside the built-in version.
I'm not planning on buying a 2nd 360 just for a BR player.
If they don't, then they're just solidified my purchase of a PS3 for HD movies.
