Rev. Wright at the Press Club

Post by Midnyte_Ragebringer »

He's speaking now. What a delusional man. The only thing people had a problem with was him spreading racism through those few snipets, yet he is treating this as some grand hatred for black churches. Pathetic.

In order to be a preacher, a person has to be delusional. It's like, the only requirement for the job.

Yes, he's taking this too far. It's a sign of how on the edge he is. There's a fine line between passionate and crazy though. Lots of folks could be pushed over the line if put under this kind of scrutiny.

Agreed, to a point. It's mostly a non-issue when it comes to Obama's campaign, but an important issue in the question of race in America today.

Agreed Mid. Race is still an issue, on every side of the line, in this country today. In regards to Obama, however, I never thought it was a big deal. I've had some crazy pastors of my own; I didn't integrate their dogma into my being, just let it wash right over me. One was a church I attended for all the years of my childhood, arguably a more impressionable time than Obama's mid-life. I came out ahead, without the bitter hatreds of that denomination.

When I was going to get married, my mom wanted me to have a Catholic Priest attending. We decided to go see the priest from her church. I never liked the guy, he was a fire and brimstone type and his parishoners were literally afraid of him. We asked if he would be present to at least recognize the wedding in the Catholic Church eyes, he looked at my wife (a Methodist) and told me, "I will not recognize a marriage to a heathen, period."

He started to explain to me that if I was truely a Catholic person that I would dump her immediately and find a good Catholic girl. I then very loudly explained to him that I was not one of his puppets and that I did not fear or care what he thought and that I was the only good Catholic speaking because I did not judge others based on minor differences. My wife is crying, I am ready to beat this guys ass and we left. My Mom was badly shaken of course. Embarrassed that he said that in front of my wife, whom she loves, and embarrassed because I just chewed out someone everyone was afraid of.

6 months later, I am married and he is defrocked for stealing money from the Church coffers.

I don't hold the Catholic Church responsible for the moron, or my mom, but some of these people have serious "God" personality issues. They think they are a true conduit to God.

Reverend Wright is actually quite brilliant. I challenge anyone who thinks he's unpatriotic and/or delusional to watch the 1 hour interview on Bill Moyer's Journal. How about instead of judging a man by a few out of context snip its that are played a thousand times a week by mainstream media, you actually take some time to learn about the man and listen to the speeches in context.

When Bill and Hillary were having marital issues, they had Reverend Wright to the White House to counsel them. She seems to forget that when using him as a tool to bash Obama.

I thought he did well in the PBS interview.
I think he did very well in the NAACP speech.
Todays speech was okay (partial recap of last night) but the QA session he needed to tone it down. His anti-government stances are what gets him in trouble, some are justified some are paranoid.

But as the man said, he is a pastor, not a politician.

So the guy makes some factual statements - retard neocons and idiot billary supporters go apeshit (partly out of fear that a black guy with a brain is beating them and their stupid dreams to fuck america into the ground forever) + over having reality pushed in their face - accusations of un-american delusion appear. The human race dies a little.

Midnyte, you're a total fucking idiot.

And you're a troll. Not surprisingly, I said none of the things you attributed to me. When I say delusional, I mean he has tried to make this dislike for his idiotic racially divisive statements as an attack on the black church as opposed to an attack on those statements and how such racially divisiveness is not helping our society progress.

Only the ones that hear the jesus telling them stuff like "jesus tells me that [our nutty balloonist preacher] will be OK."

I'm no fan of religion peddlers, but this guy is being smeared unfairly as people attempt to use this as a weapon against Obama. Unfortunately for Wright, 20 years from now, he'll just be remembered as "that awful 'goddamn America' pastor" because people can't or choose not to look beyond a few controversial and out of context sound bites. Whatever legitimate points his sermons may or may not have contained are obscured by the sensationalized excerpts.

Out of context sound bites?

Hugh Hewitt has posted the entire sermon(s). People hearing the entire thing are commenting it's even worse than the sound bite would lead you to believe.

I hope Wright has a really good air conditioner in his new expensive home, I suspect he's going to want to remember coolness in the hereafter.

Nobody is going to watch those sermons objectively after he's been condemned by virtually all major media outlets for the last few months. Just watch the Bill Moyers' interview and you'll have a much better picture of who Wright is, where he's coming from, and the intended meaning of his sermons. After that you can form your a much better opinion than one formed after listening to random biased opinions of those who've seen the whole sermon. Moyers is one of the most respected journalists out there and it's this interview is the first time anyone has given some background on Wright and allowed him to defend himself rather than being simply a target board for mainstream, sensational talking heads.

I agree with this analysis:
And now, for a really far-out theory... Wright goes out, makes even more outrageous remarks, and it gives Obama the opportunity to finally sever the ties. A statement like, "I loved this man, but I cannot abide what he is saying now... I am leaving that church and must disavow Jeremiah Wright."

Issue resolved. Obama is given credit for being a healer, for a courageous move, for standing up against divisiveness at great personal emotional expense, etc. ...
http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/ ... ZkMTYyNDM=

This is a setup to remove Wright as an issue from the general election. Wright is purposely going off the deep end and he's no dummy, this is being done for a reason. It's theater and many of you will buy it. It's also very risky and I give Obama and Wright credit for their willingness to throw the dice in this fashion.

PS. Kevarian, thanks for the chuckle about Moyers being a respected journalist. That made my day. :)

PSS. I'm sure you won't get my sarcasm, so let me spell it out for you. I'm sure Moyers is respected. He carries a lot of water for his masters. But journalist? He's a state-supported apologist for the left. Contrast with Geraldo. Geraldo may suck as a journalist but he's willing to piss off either side. Moyers is a just another ideologue trying to convince you he's not.

The opinions / analysis of Hugh Hewitt's / Townhall.com's readers and listeners couldn't possibly be biased, right? Now I need to go get the opinions of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Michael Savage's listeners so that I can get to the bottom of this matter!

I've read through the transcripts of several of his sermons. I've watched / listened to several pieces of various sermons. While I don't agree with many of the things he's said, I haven't seen anything that, when taken in context, is even close to as bad as he's been made to look throughout the last several weeks. Fallwell, Hagee, Robertson, and the like have been just as bad, and in some cases worse.
