1. B Webb 5-0
2. D Haren 3-0
3. M Owings 4-0

15-5

D'Backs now have a 6 game lead in the NL West.

Are the top pitchers of teams supposed to lose games at some point? Is five wins in one month for a pitcher pretty good with a chance for 6?

Tonight:

Dodgers lost
Padres lost
Giants lost
Rockies lost

Edit: forgot the sweep update!

Cinncinatti Series - Lost
Colorado Series - Swept
L.A. Series - Swept
Colorado Series - Won
S.F. Series - Won

Ooo... Webb (5-0) vs. Peavy (3-0) on Sunday.

Nice to see the Rockies break out of their slump with a win against the Cubs today. Big sigh of relief to see Fuentes get the save.

D'Backs lost to Dodgers last night. left the bases loaded and Outfielder Young dropped a ball to let two runs score.

D Haren has a loss now!

Young was equally good, despite giving up the solo HR to Rich Aurilia on a 3-2 count. He made one bad pitch, and that was the difference in the game. They both had the same pitch-count and strikes. Young went longer, had one more SO, and walked two fewer. He also retired the first 10 batters. The Giants also worked out of two bases-loaded situations in the 4th and 7th. Give me a good pitchers duel any day. :)

The Giants are playing above expectations, despite only scoring 71 runs in 23 games (~3 runs/game). Bengie Molina, if he keeps up, is set to have a career year. So far, six of their wins have been by a single run. Should Zito find the strike-zone, they could win more than 70 games this year. Of course, their record could be the result of a dismal NL West Conference, if not for the fact that 4 of their wins have come against the Cardinals (14-9).

Well, you ARE posting in a thread about the NL West, so it would stand to reason that there would be talk about the D'backs, yes? And, thus far, Winnow has been more right than anyone else. You can't fault him for supporting his hometown teams- they're actually pretty good.

D'Backs pull out a win today and win their series with Houston. (20-8)

Micah Owings pinch hit a 2-run homer to put the D'Backs on top in the 6th!

How many teams bring out a pitcher to pinch hit? Schwing!

Owings is hitting .389 with a .444 slugging percentage.

Oh yeah, and he's 4-0 as a pitcher this year. Nice to have a line up in the NL that has no weak spot in the batting order.
Owings was having an uneventful season in the major leagues in 2007, until his return to the state of Georgia to face the Atlanta Braves on August 18, 2007. In front of more than 48,000 fans, he pitched 7.0 innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs, striking out seven. However, it was his batting performance that made it a career night. Owings went 4 for 5 at the plate, including two home runs, scoring four times, and knocking in six runs. He is the first pitcher with four hits, four runs and six RBI in the same game. The last pitcher in the Major Leagues to record four hits and four runs was Danny Jackson in 1988. Owings' 11 total bases are the most by a pitcher in the last 50 seasons. The last Arizona player to have four hits, two homers, four runs and six RBIs was Shea Hillenbrand in 2003. He was also the first Diamondbacks pitcher to have 2 home runs in one game. The Diamondbacks would win the game 12-6.

New Power Rankings are out:

CNN:

Arizona Diamondbacks
Last Week: 1

It's ridiculous how this team keeps rolling out the studs. It's like some never-ending Chippendale review. Manager Bob Melvin cues the music, sends good-hitting pitcher Micah Owings to the plate as a pinch-hitter and -- ta da! -- a game-tying home run. The night before, in his Big Show debut, reliever Max Scherzer sets down all 13 hitters he faces, striking out seven and earning a spot in the rotation. It's uncanny.

I totally missed the game--spaced it due to odd gametime.

Yeah, the Mets had won 13 straight @ AZ until they lost a game last year. For some reason they just play well there. I was more pleased to see Wright and Reyes tear it up...Reyes got thrown out at the plate trying to complete the cycle with an inside the parker.

Reall to win against the Mets though, all a team needs to do is throw in a rookie. Rookies always beat them. I'll try to remember to watch this weekend! The Harren v Santana should be a good one.

Sloppy rubber game, but the Mets certainly needed the win going into LA today. I am very happy that Alou is back!

Mets have won 15 out of their 17 visits to Phoenix. They've got our number!

That throwing error on Conor Jackson really screwed an otherwise well played game. I thought they took Haren out too early as well.

Mets have a solid team! If their pitching is as good as Santana, they'll be tough to beat in the East.

That's the problem though (pitching). Looks great on paper sometimes, but there are some gaps.

Santana - Even with his recent longball issues, he is as good as advertised
Maine - He will get out of his funk, at some point, tremendous upside
Perez - Great arm, no brain...gets rattled easily and simply falls apart
Pelfrey - (see Perez, but with better upside)

Then there is Pedro--who knows! I have already written Orlando Hernandez off, as have most. Maybe he will surprise again...

The D-Backs have the best rotation in the game, IMO.

For you Dodger fans: hahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahah

Andruw Jones has followed up the worst season of his career in 2007 with an even worse start to the 2008 season.

Andruw, in the first season of a two-year, $36.2 mill contract with the Dodgers, is batting .158 (16-for-101) with six extra-base hits (one homer), four RBI, 34 strikeouts, a .267 OBP and a .248 slugging percentage (.515 OPS).

A year ago through May 5, Jones was hitting .235 with 14 extra-base hits (five homers) and 20 RBIs in 29 games, with a .375 OBP and .846 OPS. I’m guessing the Dodgers would kill to have such numbers from the center fielder today.

Andruw is a majors-worst 1-for-25 (.040) with runners in scoring position, and a league-worst 4-for-48 (.083) with runners on base.

He’s hitting an unfathomable .138 (9-for-65) with no RBI and 25 strikeouts against right-handers. In other words, he’s hitting about like most pitchers hit against right-handers.

I thought it would be fun to compare all the starting pitchers (Penny, Kuroda, Lowe, Billingsley, Loaiza, and Kuo) hitting stats versus Andruw. In 60 combined at-bats, they are not only hitting better (.250), they also have a better OBP (.274) and SLG (.283). During the Dodgers latest 9-game winning streak, he is 5 for 28 (.179) with 1 RBI. Two letters... P U.

He's the fifth highest paid player and you don't think he's relied on for runs? Call me crazy, but $18.1M for someone to play defense? You honestly aren't disappointed that he packed on the weight in the offseason? He hasn't hit above the Mendoza Line since the first game of the season when he went 1 for 4.

By the way, he's batted in the 8th spot once all season (4/21 vs. Reds). He went 0-4 with a strikeout. The only person who wins in this situation is Scott Bor-ass.

Of course he was brought in to bring runs home and yes im disappointed, which means dick. LA will score runs without him and I can really care less how much he is paid since it doesnt mean anything anymore. I know he hasnt been batting 8th, what does that have to do with me not caring if he does for 2 years and only makes plays in CF? This is a great lineup without him and I was hoping with him it would become an outstanding lineup. Besides, even with him on the bench having Ethier/Pierre/Kemp is pretty good.
