Mobile Phone: Sony Ericsson W580i Walkman phone

Post by Xatrei »

Anyone have any experience with this phone? I want a music phone, don't need any PDA type functions, and do not want an iPhone (no iPhone/iPod debates, please - I own multiple iPods - I just don't want an iPhone). Having read the reviews and researched the specs for this device, I'm pretty close to buying one. I'm curious if any of you have any personal revelations about this phone before I go get one.

I'm curious on this as well. I actually DO own an iphone, and it's a piece of absolute shit. I'd like to replace it by summer.

The problem is that all of my music is in itunes - would I be able to take my music in itunes and put it on this phone?

Should support synching your iTunes tunes with an Ericsson phone. If not it also supports making MP3s out of those MP4s so you can do whatever with them (see the "Liberate my iTunes music purchases" part).

From what I've read you'd be better off getting the W910i instead. Lots better functionality, easier interface etc. No personal experience with either, though.

Xatrei - avoid the LG Chocolate like the plague. My wife and I both have it and can't wait to dump it.

Yeah, the W910i looks like a much better phone. From what I've read, the W980i (flip), W760i and W960i all look like better models. Unfortunately none of these are available through my carrier (AT&T/Cingular). It's really surprising that of all the Walkman phones made by Sony Ericsson, only the W580i seems to be widely available here. Supposedly, they're rolling a lot more models out to the US market this fall, so I might wait until then. I'm not in a huge rush for this, so I can keep carrying a phone and iPod around for now.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

uhh... huh?

I'm no Apple fanboy, but the iPhone is a nice device.
