Obama WILL be the next president
Re: Obama WILL be the next president
I don't really understand the reasoning behind people's assumptions that McCain is being gifted the election. It's far too fucking early to tell that one.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
I don't think anyone in this forum is declaring an absolute victory for McCain. He does have an edge if both Democrats decimate each others character though. He can sit back and watch his competitors leech away the others resources.
However, everyone knows that there will eventually be someone to face off with McCain before the leaves turn.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
Not really, think about it. McCain was obviously the strongest candidate on his side of the fence, he was their clear choice pretty early on. What Hilary and Obama are doing is splitting their party pretty much down the middle. Sure, after one of them is named the democratic candidate some people will switch to supporting them (obama supporters turning into hilary supporters, or vice versa), but I feel like there are a lot of people (a ton for Obama) that would be a little pissed off over their pick not being the candidate. I think a lot of those people will end up either not voting, or writing in the candidate they wanted, which will do nothing but hurt the democratic party.Nick wrote:I don't really understand the reasoning behind people's assumptions that McCain is being gifted the election. While I could be wrong and this might not end up making much/any difference when all is said and done, I certainly don't think it's too early to see something like that on the horizon.
Re: Obama WILL be the next president
On one hand, McCain can just sit back and watch. But on the other hand, both Democratic candidates are getting tons of free publicity (which is both good and bad, although I'd wager that by and large it is the old standby no publicity is bad publicity) and have been able to leverage that publicity to tap a larger number of individuals for fundraising than they otherwise could have - and most of these sources can give again after the primaries. McCain doesn't have near the momentum for fundraising that either Democrat will have, as his sources are more or less static at this point.
We'll see though.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
In the meantime, Clinton's claims about a "corkscrew" landing at Tuzla airport have been challenged by the pilot who commanded the C-17 that flew her from Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. Speaking in a radio interview with the Rusty Humphries Show, Colonel William "Goose" Changose said that he did not undertake any kind of "evasive" maneuver on the approach to Tuzla, and that the only reason the descent was a little steeper than normal was because there were hills around.
"Not only were there no bullets flying around, there wasn't a bumblebee flying around," Changose recalled.
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-che ... id=topnewsThe Pinocchio Test
There would seem little left to debunk about Clinton's adventures in Bosnia. But it is worth correcting the record about the other first ladies. I have already assigned the maximum four Pinocchios to Clinton for her Tuzla tale. I will leave it to readers to debate how any additional Pinocchios should be apportioned between the former first lady and the Washington Post.
I think her entire story has been debunked now. She has quite the active imagination.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
McCain was never the front runner by his own efforts (unless you count slobbering over the Crispy Cock he has been doing rescently), but more through a combination of his opponent's incompetance and lack of appealing alternatives to the establishment. Gulianni was a total disaster from Day Nine One One, err one. Romney had no real established ideology and the Uber Crispies were NEVER going to let a Mormon get the nomination. And Ron Paul, nut job or not, was the money and neocon establishment's worst nightmare (a real conservative) so they pulled out all the stops to cock block him from getting anywhere, even though he is still outraising McCain in campaign funds. And the less said about poor old Fred the better. So the GOP nom came down to process of elimination, which is good because McCain did not have the resources for a protracted battle.
As for who gets the Dem nom, in theory it should be over and Obama should have it, but my cinical side tells me Hilary is pulling strings to back door herself into the nomination. Given the amount of smear she has been piling on its a safe bet in her mind she thinks that she can make it seem like a plurality thing if opinion polls shift her way, hence the unholy alliance with Rush and Fox. I don't think this will be the case (Big O's numbers have actually risen rescently despite them pushing the Rev Wright thing non stop) come general election time and if she succeeds, it will effectively destroy the Democratic Party, basically handing the entire government over to the GOP who are, ironically, less popular with the electorate than they have EVER been in their entire history, revisionist or real. That is the scenario I see happening at this point.
In a general election, its really simple. If its Big O vs McBush, Obama wins for a variety of reasons, but most notably the fact that most of the dirt on McCain has been freshly plowed for the attack groups by the master turd farmer Rove, himself. The non-issue crap they have flung at Obama will have been played out by then and McCains racist "advantage" will disappear as fast as it takes some vindictive crispies to replay the "John McCain has an illegitamate negro baby" ads Carl dumped around in 200. The best chance McCain has against him would be to do two things: Nominate Condi as his VP (purely for the woman and lesbian vote) and get Nader to run.
Against Hilary, McCain wins, hands down. She is practically the same as him in ideology, but she brings out the hate in red state voters in a way no other canidate other than Bill has, not to mention there will be a lot off pissed off indis/dems who will feel fucked by the superdelagate process. Also picture an add with her Bill and Monica in it with a statement like "Do you want her to let him fuck around in the Whitehouse another four years?" by some swiftboat group and you get a good idea of how bad it will be if she wrangles the nomination. All McCain would have to do against her is let the swift boat groups pound away while he sits back and watches her slowly self destruct.
So, my prediction for the record is that if Obama doesn't get backroom fucked by Hilary (which I deem highly likely), he will be the next president. If he does, then McCain wins the presidency the way he won the nomination; a process of eliminating less desirable alternatives.

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Like many of the most extreme figures from the 1960s Ayers and Dohrn are ambiguous figures in American life.
They disappeared in 1970, after a bomb — designed to kill army officers in New Jersey — accidentally destroyed a Greenwich Village townhouse, and turned themselves into authorities in 1980. They were never prosecuted for their involvement with the 25 bombings the Weather Underground claimed; charges were dropped because of improper FBI surveillance.
Both have written and spoken at length about their pasts, and today he is an advocate for progressive education and a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago; she’s an associate professor of law at Northwestern University.
But — unlike some other fringe figures of the era — they’re also flatly unrepentant about the bombings they committed in the name of ending the war, defending them on the grounds that they killed no one, except, accidentally, their own members.

District caucus/conventions were today. I attended as a delegate from my precinct, and tbh I actually enjoyed it. It was a bit chaotic at times (not sure that can be helped) but I enjoyed being a part of the process. It was very interesting to learn how it all works and such. Some of the older folks that have been going to these things for like 30 years were REALLY excited to see someone my age participating and were more than happy to answer all my questions and explain things.
I filled out the paperwork to attempt to earn a spot as a delegate at-large to the state convention in june. If not this election, I can get 2 more elections in before my chances of making state/national conventions are shot. We'll see what happens.

You fail to recognize that exclusionary policies and laws are a big part of the reason rich white men run the show today.
Is it changing? Yes, but fairly slowly. How many decades or centuries would you estimate before this is no longer the case?
Edit: BTW, I'm from Alabama. Supposedly the south is full of racists, yet Obama not only won Alabama, but has won every one of the south eastern states.

Wow your pseudo-intellectual breakdown of my previous (admittedly antagonising) post truly confirms your spot at the top of the "VV table of genius"!!!!
Or, frankly - back in reality: You are a fucking troll, who would/could be taken seriously if you bothered (for even a moment) to act in the impartial manner you so desperately wish to sell yourself as doing. I think if we gave a fuck about anything you had to say, it would be more on the level of who you wished to vote for, and why - instead of quoting retarded one liners, and adding retarded one liners on top of them, in an effort to look "edgy" in front of us "LOLBERALS!"
Cue condescending aged based irrational response that ignores anything to do with the issue and concentrates solely on age related self-driven superiority (since, after all, you pussied out of the challenge, proving yourself once and for all to be the troll we all know you are Gino).
Also: what exactly are you quoting thats meant to be so incredibly newsworthy? Working class votes are obviously fucking important in any election.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
MR. MURPHY: And now it becomes the defining point that hurts Barack among the very votes he's going to need in the general election to beat John McCain. This thing is going to stick because it's part of the way the, the Democrat Party of today is, is disconnected, I think, from the swing voters who are going to decide this election.
MR. RUSSERT: Bob Shrum, the, the words "cling to guns," "cling to religion," you're going to hear those over and over again...
MR. SHRUM: Yeah.
MR. RUSSERT: ...a suggestion of condescending talk.
MR. SHRUM: Yeah, I think he confused the comfort of the familiar with the fear of the unknown when he sort of lumped church and guns with immigration. I don't agree with any of this, and I guess I'll just dissent.
MR. MURPHY: You elitist.
MR. SHRUM: Yeah, right, you--listen, let me tell you, no one's sitting at this table that has it tough the way people in Pennsylvania have it tough.
MR. MURPHY: Uh-huh.
MR. SHRUM: And I think he was explaining what was going on with a lot of those folks. Now, should he have said it that way? No. I think it does give him the chance, by the way, to go back into these small towns and talk about what he really meant. More than that, I think this will be settled by the debate on Wednesday night. I think this will be a big issue in the debate. The way he handles it will, will establish whether he can create resonance with these folks he was talking about.
MR. MURPHY: But the question is, is what--the argument he made--forget about cling, an unfortunate word that he, of course, says he regrets--is the argument he makes true? Do people resonate to issues like the Second Amendment and, and the other things he mentioned--guns and trade and everything else...
MR. SHRUM: But I...
MR. MURPHY: ...because of economic distress, or is it legitimate to be a cultural conservative? That is the question he brought up.
MR. SHRUM: People go with sociology, and he shouldn't be a sociologist.
MR. MURPHY: So he's wrong.
MR. SHRUM: People--sociology says that when people are in distress, when they're economically deprived, they, they hold onto the things in their lives that give them some sense of security and identity. That's faith, that can be hunting, that can be all of those things.
MR. MURPHY: But he implies it's a illegitimate.
MR. SHRUM: Should he have said it? No.
MR. MURPHY: He implies it's a construction of economic...(unintelligible).
MR. SHRUM: No, he does not imply it. No, he does not.
MR. CARVILLE: (Unintelligible). There are a substantial number of people in this country that hunt for pleasure, or they have guns and they shoot for pleasure. It--they, they...(unintelligible). They're people that go to church. And, Bob, you and I know this, that people that go to church because they're people of faith. There are people that go to church because it's a joyous experience.
MR. SHRUM: You mean like Robert...(unintelligible)...goes to church.
MR. CARVILLE: Yeah, whatever. I'm just, I'm just saying that in--culturally, he, he, he, he--I know he's not sociologist in charge, but that he didn't have his kind of history right. He needs to have a better history and a better understanding. I think--and I think Bob is right, he's going to have a chance in the debate, and he's going to have a chance to, to, to kind of re-explain himself here. But this statement was really off in terms of his--its, its, its accuracy and understanding who "these people are." They're--they'll--there's a large segment of the Democratic Party that would like to win an election without these kind of white, working-class voters, and we need a substantial...
MR. SHRUM: Well, I come, I, I, I come from these folks.
MR. CARVILLE: I know you don't. Bob, I've worked...
MR. SHRUM: I come from those folks, and I want to win with those folks.
MR. CARVILLE: I--right, I--but...
MR. SHRUM: But let, let, let me say, I, I think we're being unfair to the guy. I thought two weeks ago everybody was being unfair to Hillary Clinton saying she ought to get out of the race.
MR. CARVILLE: Right.
MR. SHRUM: And I wrote an op-ed piece saying she ought to stay in and she ought to fight this thing until it's decided. But I think we're being unfair to him. I understand why these guys are. The truth of the matter is, he's describing a, a condition that exists in a lot of these towns that have been abandoned. I was born in one of them. The population is half of what it used to be.
MR. MURPHY: Right.
MR. CARVILLE: And I think you're right, he's going to have a chance to explain it.
MR. MURPHY: Yeah.

I read that quote originally and wondered just how out-of-context it was taken.

You are a delusional angry little leprechaun, and to be honest I kind of feel sorry for you. The only thing that is more absurd than your stance on 75% of things is the fact that you are blind to your unfounded and unwarranted hatred for anything to do with the U.S.Nick wrote:Yes my anti war stance shared by the majority of your country really is a totally wacky stance DUDE. Ya know Funk, that whole "hate the U.S." argument is pretty lame.
Personally, yeah, I fucking hate the U.S., right now. But you know what? It's not my U.S. at the moment.. It's yours. Your US is the country that was hijacked by the neoconservatives and the religious right. It is a US that has been run in to the ground for 8 years and torn apart by the greed of the republicans. It is the US that tortures.
The US I loved.. well, I am hoping it is going to make a comeback.. because I really did love that country.
In the meantime, you can take your US, and shove it up your ass. You fucked it up with your hatred, fear, and complete lack of the ability to feel empathy or compassion.

You are the dumbest person I have ever encountered if you actually think that torture is a new thing, we have been torturing people with the same methods and reasons forever, democrat or republican.
If you think things are gonna change much I have a feeling you are setting yourself up to be disappointed. As far as I'm concerned fuck the rest of the world and what they think we should do. Fuck saving them during their conflicts, fuck feeding their starving children. Fuck every last person in Africa that continues to spread AIDS, fuck giving them money when they will continue to spread the disease faster than we can cure it. We should just continue to deal with other countries strictly for trade, anything else you are on your own. Then we can watch the rest of the world die or kill each other off and laugh as we think about how all those idiots thought we never helped.

What you originally posted was totally devoid of any context whatsoever. Posting a snippet of the Ragin' Cajun, outside of the conversation that he was having and without even knowing to whom or what he was referring, does not provide any room for a discussion to be had. After you went back and posted the transcript/link to what you took that from, we can have a conversation like adults.
You say you love it when "truth sneaks out". What "truth" are you referring to? James Carville's opinion on what Barack Obama might have meant by his comments about some of the people living in Pennsylvania? Barack Obama's "truth" about some of the residents of Pennsylvania whose towns lost their big industries and thus, most of their jobs, 25 years ago? I'll assume that you're speaking of Barack Obama, since this thread is about him and posting an off-topic, out-of-context quote from another person with the intention of making people angry is pretty much the definition of trolling, and everyone besides Nick says that you aren't doing that.

You need things explained to you a lot, don't you?
The Dems are the self-pronounced party of the middle class working man. James Carville is a key advisor is the Dem party for almost 20 years. His little mistep shows they aren't what they say they are, but they are merely pretending to be that to maintain power. If it was who they are, they would never say how they'd love to be able to win without white middle class working americans. They have disgust for who Americans are. Yet they say they love all Americans. They are the compassionate party. NM. This is a waste of my time. You aren't interested in reason. I'm going to harvest nodes. Much more fulfilling. Have a nice day.

Whatever makes you feel better about yourself. It sucks we can no longer have discussions on this board. The playground is all yours. Have fun in it with no one in it to state a contrary point of view. Have fun in it with no new posts for days, because you like minded retards have nothign to say to eachother. It's really sad the way you treat people. I wish people could treat eachother like they do in game. It would make for a really nice place to discuss current events. Oh well.Sylvus wrote:Okay, so you were trolling. Got it.

So just start shitting all over the forums and making cart-like posts with me. It's actually kind of fun. I'm gonna slowly degenerate my content further and further and see how long it takes for me to get banned.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
It appears I'm not the only one who needs things explained to me a lot. It sounds like we have similar goals for this forum. My last few posts have been in an attempt to get you to actually post something of substance that can be discussed. Posting a fragment of a thought from one person as a sweeping generalization of all Democrats does exactly the opposite of that. We get it, you hate liberals and/or Democrats.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Whatever makes you feel better about yourself. It sucks we can no longer have discussions on this board. I asked for clarification on your "truth", because I was hoping that you were quoting what James Carville said about Obama's comments regarding Pennsylvanians in an effort to get a discussion going about Obama's comments. As a Pennsylvanian (I thought... maybe I'm mistaken and you live in Jersey), albeit one who doesn't live in the Rust Belt (as far as I know), I thought perhaps you might have a particular insight into his comments.
