Chumby

Post by Vaemas »

Heard about this on Marketplace last night, so went and checked it out today. Waiting for the temporary kink to get worked out of their web ordering, but as soon as I get my email notice from them, I'll be ordering it!

Go take a look at it. Should also be reviews out there on it. Prett damn impressive how customizable it really is.

Soon as it shows up, I'll see about posting a review.

That looks pretty sweet. I wish I had a use for it. It's really cool that they give you the engineering design specs for it.

I have a name-crush on Kai Ryssdal. (I had to Google for the spelling.)

Yeah a cool device but not sure I'd have a use for it either. I just need an alarm clock to wake me up. I don't usually have time to read anything or just lay there listening. And especially at $180.

Cool but I'd never use it. Only place I could think of would be work but you'd have to be able to hook it up to your network. I'd get the same use out of that if it was built into my toaster. (none)

Looks like even the Wii owners aren't going for this cool looking gadget. That's not a good sign!

I'm looking forward to doing some scripting with it so that I can have it playlist some stuff on my ipod (my music that I ripped, so no M4Ps), then have it snooze out before waking me up in the morning. That plus quick, at-a-glance weather and traffic as I'm getting ready to head out the door will be nice. If you haven't looked through the widgets or developer section, you might want to give it a look. Sure, it's an alarm clock, but it's way more than that.

It's built on Linux with built in SSH, et al, so it's infinitely scriptable and customizable. I think that's probably what really sold me on it.

No, I realize that. The point is I don't have time in the morning for anything other than getting up and getting ready. If I need to check weather I just stop by my PC which is usually always on.

As I said it looks like a cool device. It just wouldn't fit how I function in the morning so wouldn't be a wise investment.
