Two murders in 1 day...

Here in Auburn we rarely have any murders. I remember hearing of one last year in Opelika, which neighbors Auburn, but it was drug related.

Two girls have been killed here in Auburn in the past day. One was a attempted\possibly successful rape went bad. They shot her once and dropped her off on college street, in the middle of downtown, then burned her car. Somehow no one saw anyone do it. Then later some girl with killed in her apartment. Not sure of any of the details on that one. Police are all hyped up and on the prowl and lots of people are scared that they could be related.

"AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn University students and administrators reacted with shock on Wednesday to the murder of freshman Lauren Burk, 18, who was shot to death off campus on Tuesday night.

Classes weren't disrupted Wednesday, but news of the crime rocked the campus community, which has a student body of 24,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

"We are so saddened by this situation, words simply aren't adequate," Auburn University President Jay Gogue said in a statement on the university's Web site. "This is a close-knit community that rarely experiences such a tragedy, so our heartfelt prayers and thoughts go out to those in Lauren's community in Marietta, and especially to her family."

In a statement, the Delta Gamma sorority, where Burk had been pledged, has offered support to Burk’s family and friends.

“Delta Gammas across the country offer hope and friendship to Lauren’s family and all who have been affected by this tragedy,” the sorority said.

Auburn University sent alerts by voicemail, text message and e-mail to tell students about the situation and direct them to the university's Web site for more information. Rumors of additional incidents Wednesday on campus were unfounded, the university said, but police have been present throughout the day.

“There are increased patrols on our campus," university spokesman Mike Clardy told FOX News. "There's no indication that there's any additional danger to student safety, but our City of Auburn police, they're taking all the necessary precautions.”



The "unfounded" additional incidents are only called that to keep people from freaking out. Or at least thats what I am hearing. Supposedly it was a bit away from campus so they are trying to keep it low key.

When MSNBC initially reported this, they were apparently confused by Auburn's proximity to Georgia and kept referring to "Georgia authorities," "Auburn University in Georgia" and even showed a graphic of the state of Georgia with Auburn apparently located in Atlanta. It's strange when something like that happens in a relatively peaceful small town like that. A murder in Birmingham probably wouldn't even be noticed outside of this area. Of course these days it's news if a fist fight breaks out on a college campus anywhere.

Yeah, I guess its understandable considering we are about 15 miles from the state line, but we are over 100 miles from Atlanta, lol. Must have thought it was Georgia Tech or something. Oh, and on the second murder...it was a hoax kinda. It seems some people freaked out when some girl disappeared the next night and her apartment was turned upside down like there had been a struggle inside. The truth was that she had lost her cell phone and trashed her apartment looking for it then went all around town trying to find it, haha. Scared the shit out of me at first. I was afraid that this could be the start of some serial rapist\murderer.

I just really hope whoever did this gets caught. A lot of people are really shaken up about this. People just don't get murdered in Auburn...at least not randomly. Like I said earlier, any other murder I've heard of has been drug related.

There is a memorial service tomorrow for this girl, and guess who is coming to protest? Westboro Baptist Church...do these fuckers just go around the country trying to find tragic deaths in order to inflict more pain on the people who are mourning? If there is a hell, these people are going to be at the front of the line.

Yeah, I heard about that yesterday. I'm glad they caught him. He should fry...she was almost through her freshman year. Had so much to look forward to.
