I despise Scientology as much as anyone, but is this cult/religion actually a threat to...anything? Does it deserve even a fraction of the attention that it gets (negative or not)? In a time where any publicity can be good publicity, is it wise to be giving Scientology so much?

As long as you keep the message strictly factual I think it's a good thing.
I hope local (Tampa area) folks were smart enough to take public transportation or go over to Orlando if they wanted to attend.

It's hard to say.. They have a LOT of money and a LOT of power, they could end up using it for bad (I can't say I know how) and that might be something to be concerned about.Keverian FireCry wrote:I despise Scientology as much as anyone, but is this cult/religion actually a threat to...anything? Re: Message to Scientology
I would say it is a direct threat to the current popular Christian and Christian-esque dogma because it is so far in left field. As far as I know, it's about as far off from any current religion as is possible. That radical difference is very frightening to those that believe, not really the same religion, but at least share many common traits.Keverian FireCry wrote:I despise Scientology as much as anyone, but is this cult/religion actually a threat to...anything? Re: Message to Scientology
Scientology cannot fairly be compared to other religions...
If you say something negative in public about other religions, they don't send private investigators to dig around your life and find dirt.
When you confess your sins to another religion, they aren't recorded and lie-detected.
Scientology actively controls and suppresses it's members, even impinging upon their inalienable human rights. They are an evil for-profit corporation masquerading as a non-profit religion, and they must be stopped.
There are now videos online from the protests all over the globe... search youtube for scientology or anonymous and you'll see them... It's a testament to the spread of the internet how this "Anonymous" declaration of war has been taken up by so many in different places.

I think you're missing the point, it's not a "competing" religion. As Fash pointed out It's the psychotically self absorbed, deliberately created, for profit political organization that people have a problem with.Fairweather Pure wrote:I would say it is a direct threat to the current popular Christian and Christian-esque dogma because it is so far in left field. Where is the hypocrisy? Where do you see someone bashing Scientology and at the same time supporting another religion? In fact it's been mentioned that this attack on Scientology will hurt the other religions too, though unintended.
You're wrong... They are far different than actual religions. The other religions are not up for discussion here, no matter how similarly retarded they are in belief, this is all about execution... There is no problem with Scientologists, just the Church of Scientology.

Went to the SF raid. Was fun, although the appearance of Raptor Jesus made it somewhat surreal. Hopefully this can keep up steam. Next event is March 15 which is the Sat. after L. Ron's B-day - so I'd expect a bit more confrontation this time as it's kind of their version of Christmas (although in this case you have to give gift$ to the orgs to attend).

Re: Message to Scientology
Scientology has an agenda against psychiatrists and psychologists. They put forward "LRH tech" as an acceptable substitute, despite the fact that it's a load of crap without any scientific basis. There are several documented cases of mentally ill people in the church being bilked for their life savings and then either cast out or killed (see Lisa McPherson). There's also the case of a mentally-ill kid losing his shit because Scientology told his parents to stop giving him the drugs his doctor prescribed. After the church withdrew all their "assistance" when it became clear that no amount of exercise and LRH tech can actually cure a seriously ill person, he ended up killing his mother when his schitzo episode peaked.
While I agree that a lot of mental health practitioners are script-happy, that doesn't negate the decades of legitimate scientific inquiry that those folks have put in. All of their (scientology's) programs like Narconon and such are based on bad science.

Apparently Scilons are flagging the Craiglistings of 3/15 meetups (and did the same for 2/10 meetups as well).
I looked on CL and apparently the Co$ advertises on there quite often depending on the city. I believe this violates the ToS, so flagged them as such.
A few tidbits from the ToS.
i) that is false, deceptive, misleading, deceitful, misinformative, or
constitutes "bait and switch";
j) that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other
proprietary rights of any party, or Content that you do not have a right to
make available under any law or under contractual or fiduciary
relationships;
k) that constitutes or contains "affiliate marketing," "link referral code,"
"junk mail," "spam," "chain letters," "pyramid schemes," or unsolicited
commercial advertisement;
l) that constitutes or contains any form of advertising or solicitation if:
posted in areas of the craigslist sites which are not designated for such
purposes; or emailed to craigslist users who have not indicated in writing that
it is ok to contact them about other services, products or commercial interests.
m) that includes links to commercial services or web sites, except as allowed
in "services";
So, if one so desires you could do the same to any products or services you see advertised in the "free" section of CL. Why let them get free ad time from your favorite online classifieds, make them pay like any other business.

Re: Message to Scientology
Have you even examined how the "Church" of Scientology functions - along with all of its Front Groups (Narcanon, etc.). It is a business/Pyramid scheme disguised in religious clothing.
Now, should religious groups be tax exempt if they exist for the sole purpose of making money for the leaders? Scientology are the only religion in the U.S. that can make it's education/school spending a tax deduction. When you go to a private Scientology school you can write off your expenses. I don't see that with any other religious schools - catholic, protestant, muslim, etc. Basically they work the system entirely for their own benefit, and pay nothing back to society as a whole. I see no problem in removing their free advertising since they are a business, they promote "bait-and switch" in that being "Clear" is not the end of the line that they say it is in their initial advertising (the Clear state is when, after hundreds of hours of auditing at ~$100/hr you realize you created the reactive mind in order to hide the body thetans underneath it - which you now need even MORE auditing to remove!).
I don't understand how you can link attacking the Church of Scientology's practices with hating on other religions place within society.

We're both just hating on different religions. You have your reasons for Scientology, I have my reasons for the rest. I know Mormon local leaders and those who run the wards/stakes, and regions, as well as missionaries do not get paid. The upper ups get paid, but I'm not sure how much. The big religions are rich. Very rich. They should pay taxes just like any business. Take away all the BS and that's all they are.Animale wrote:I don't understand how you can link attacking the Church of Scientology's practices with hating on other religions place within society.
Re: Message to Scientology
Ahh, thought you were being sarcastic per your "burning crosses" statement. If you are being serious, then that's an issue entirely separate from the CoS, as the two are not linked in my mind.
<shrug> Don't ask me to support the destruction of religion entirely. Even though I don't agree with religion in general, doesn't mean that I think that all religious institutions serve no societal purpose. Most, in fact, do... Scientology does not serve the greater good in any manner whatsoever and is therefore worthy of my scorn.

Oh nos! Scientology dosen't like psychiatrists! They must be evil and backwards, so let's fucking protest them. Meanwhile, let's overlook Jehovah's Witnesses that do not believe in blood transfusions or the other religions like Christian Science that dosen't even believe in using medication at all, no matter how severe the illness.masteen wrote:Scientology has an agenda against psychiatrists and psychologists. But you're probably right that picking on Scientology based on the Lisa McPherson case (which if true will be taken care of by the proper authorities) or anything else you read on the Internet about how evil they are is much better than expressing concern over the Catholics for moving known serial child molestors all over the fucking world and paying millions to keep it quiet. Oh well. I guess Scientology is just a lot easier target. It's certianly not nearly as evil or fucked up as people are making them out to be.
I could go on and on. I look around and see so many religions doing far worse and even more fucked up shit than anything you can regurgitate from Scientology, but no one gives two shits.

Which is just part of their game... "never defend, always attack." It's part of Fair Game, the policy they utilize to combat their enemies.
For example, one of the first people to write a book critical of Scientology, Paulette Cooper, had 15 years of her life ruined by constant harassment from the cult. People went to jail for this (Operation: Freakout) as well as to jail for infultrating and copying sensitive IRS and other government documents (Operation: Snow White).
Read about Paulette in her own words here:
http://www.agoravox.com/article.php3?id_article=7675
If we keep silent because "everybody else is doing it" then are we any better than the perpetrators of their crimes? The time to speak out is now, when the iron of public opinion is hot. Speak to your friends and relatives, inoculate them from becoming members of this group. Talk to your elected officials and discuss having their "religious, tax-exempt" status removed for activities that fall outside of the intent of the exemption (education expenses, commissioned sales of goods and services, etc.)
All this and we haven't even discussed the treatment of their own members, especially those who have signed "billion year" contracts to be part of the Sea Org (for a look at somebody who lived through it, read the story in this thread http://ocmb.xenu.net/ocmb/viewtopic.php?t=25536).
How about their policy of disconnection, which destroys families, friendships, and lives. For more, look at http://www.scientologydisconnection.com/.
And this doesn't even include discussion of their religious beliefs, which fall way outside the realm of the mainstream. Of course, people are free to believe what they want to - but supporting a criminal organization in the process shouldn't be condoned merely because other religions also support criminals within their midst (I think the primary example here is the catholic pedophile priest conspiracy - which was a horrible horrible thing but is now coming to light to be eradicated by the church itself... I do not see Scientology admitting blame for their crimes and trying to come clean)
Go read about their crimes, inoculate yourself from their influence.

If we keep silent because "everybody else is doing it" then are we any better than the perpetrators of their crimes? The time to speak out is now, when the iron of public opinion is hot. Speak to your friends and relatives, inoculate them from becoming members of this group. Talk to your elected officials and discuss having their "religious, tax-exempt" status removed for activities that fall outside of the intent of the exemption (education expenses, commissioned sales of goods and services, etc.)

Protesting anything is OK, but do it in an effective manner and as much as it possible, limit your impact to those you are trying to influence.Fash wrote:I've always been against protesting... I've never understood it... Until now.

I don't care enough to go protest, partially because as you said, what consenting adults do is their own choice. It's good to people raising awareness of them though. My stance on them has been consistent long before this came about.
I don't agree with these people either, it's a matter of degree as well.Oh nos! Scientology dosen't like psychiatrists! They must be evil and backwards, so let's fucking protest them. Meanwhile, let's overlook Jehovah's Witnesses that do not believe in blood transfusions or the other religions like Christian Science that dosen't even believe in using medication at all, no matter how severe the illness.
If you can't differentiate between small backward religions and a huge multi-national corporate entity with a multi million dollar legal team that viciously attacks their detractors then I'm not sure what to say...
I would guess there are more people litigating against the Catholic church than there are against Scientology. I'd also guess that the Catholic church hasn't attacked any of their detractors (sticking to recent history).

Re: Message to Scientology
What influence? What are you talking about?
I do not know a single person I have ever met in my entire life that would even consider joining that religion. Go find a more worthwile cause to pour your energy into.
You won't change the minds of the believers and everyone else already knows how weird it is and will make up thier own minds if they want to join Scientology or do one of the more normal religions where you eat the body and drink the blood of christ once a week while giving 10% of everything you earn in tithing.
Who cares that much about Scientology, I mean really?

Why do you keep posting on this thread, I mean really?Fairweather Pure wrote:Who cares that much about Scientology, I mean really?
I care less about Scientology than I am interested in the movement that is happening... That people from all over the globe are uniting around a common cause that I actually believe in. The whole "Anonymous" thing fascinates me.

I guess I'm equally facinated how all these people chose fucking Scientology out of all the evils and just causes in the world to put thier energy into. I can't imagine what these people's worse case scenerio is concerning Scientology that warrents all the finger pointing.Fash wrote:Why do you keep posting on this thread, I mean really?
These people really need thier theta waves checked!
Besides, if I stopped posting, the message of how evil Scientology is would drop off the front page, which would defeat the purpose of the thread. YOU GOTTA PROTECT YOURSELF AND LOVED ONES FROM THE INFLUENCE.

Re: Message to Scientology
I disagree. The powers that be are afraid of Scientology and nothing will come of it. No big stories are being done in the mass media. It's just internet nerds that are in a frenzy over it. I'd be surprised to see real media get dirty and explore some investigative reporting on Scientology. Fluff pieces are much safer and won't get you fired.Fash wrote:I've always been against protesting... I've never understood it... Re: Message to Scientology
Saying that catholics/christians were doing the same shit hundreds or thousands of years ago, and speculating that they would be doing the same crap now if they could get away with it is an extremely weak and pathetic argument against what Scientology is doing now.Fairweather Pure wrote:I guess I'm equally facinated how all these people chose fucking Scientology out of all the evils and just causes in the world to put thier energy into. The disgusting and scary way that they act in the PRESENT is not matched by any other religious group besides maybe the Taliban. I agree with you that relgion is retarded and I feel that little to no good has came of it in mans entire existence, but I think you are coming off as pretty ignorant and silly on this subject.

Re: Message to Scientology
This is obviously extremely important and a huge danger to society and life as we know it. You better bring more to the table than "they have lots of money and they sue people". Destroying relationships and families is not enough. Too many religions already do that. Not just the ones that were around hundreds of thousands of years ago either (shocking, I know).Funkmasterr wrote:I think you are coming off as pretty ignorant and silly on this subject.
If you feel that I am ignorant about Scientology, please share what information you possess about the subject that you believe I do not. Enlighten me, brotha. I want to know what you know.
This thread is full of SPs (as the Scientologists refer to you). You're really enturbulating my levels.

Re: Message to Scientology
Scientologists claim their number at around 8 million. Jehovah's Witnesses claim around 6.7 million members. Furthermore, JH are all located in the States, whereas Scientology is worldwide.Aabidano wrote:If you can't differentiate between small backward religions and a huge multi-national corporate entity with a multi million dollar legal team that viciously attacks their detractors then I'm not sure what to say...
It seems you are stuck on the differences while I am stuck the simularities.
EDIT: Just another point of reference, Mormons claim 12 million members.

Re: Message to Scientology
Doing shit like tossing money and power around so that no one can talk bad about you, and fucking people lives up in general is enough for me. I'm sure a lot of serial killers started off just pulling the legs off of grasshoppers too. I don't see how you could possibly claim that RIGHT NOW other churches are abusing their power and followers as badly as they are.Fairweather Pure wrote:This is obviously extremely important and a huge danger to society and life as we know it. Again, I don't care what happened in the past, so that is not relevant to the conversation at this point.

Re: Message to Scientology
So, you don't have anything to teach me Funk?
Did you read about the Catholic priests and all the kiddie touching they did? Or does that fall under your self imposed statute of limitation, which seems to be based on time? How far back does that go for you anyway? Can I use the fact that Mormons didn't give blacks the power of the priesthood until the 70's because they believed them to be tainted? How about religions that treat women like shit and justify the killing of other people that do not share the same belief? Am I limited strictly to only religions you've heard of?
Sorry, I don't know the rules you're imposing on the conversation. What I do know is that you should tuck your tail between your legs and scamper off to another thread, because you're out of your league here. You have the gall to call me ignorant and you bring a rubberband to a gun fight with your intellect.

Re: Message to Scientology
I am not sure what is so difficult to understand here, the shit your are citing happened in the past. I am concerned (as others should be) what is directly effecting us right now, and right now only. All of those other religions went through their craziest phases in the past, they realized their bullshit wouldn't slide and have been greatly subdued in the present, scientology is just now rising to that point (in my mind) that it needs to be subdued, they need to be shown that their shit will not be tolerated or accepted by society at large.Fairweather Pure wrote:So, you don't have anything to teach me Funk?

Nothing you said is irrelevant, and it is all just as bad or worse than what is happening right now, it's just not relevant to the situation at hand. I don't just want to see these crazy fucks gaining power and momentum and say "Eh, all religions have done this kind of shit, these guys will get over it and it will all blow over eventually" like you seem to be willing to do. In the days of the Salem Witch trials they got away with that kind of thing because the church was the government, that is not the case now, and we as a society don't need to tolerate their bullshit for even a fraction of a second.
P.S. I'm never out of my league on this website, ever. So do ME a favor and save your fucking snide remarks for someone else.

Re: Message to Scientology
Chill, fair... Seriously, grouping Scientology with the other religions is exactly what they want. They want to claim religious persecution, but it would be like Microsoft claiming the same and silencing people who criticize Vista. (winnow = tom cruise?)
