I figured this would be the only forum to get a good response out of this, but what did you all think of the Dana Jacobson thing? Dana is a UM (roofles) grad that, at a Mike and Mike roast told Mike Golic, "Fuck Notre Dame" and "Fuck Touchdown Jesus". It's been noted that, during the tirade, she was weilding and drinking out of a bottle of Belvedere vodka. Since then Christain coalitions have since removed 'touchdown' to suit their purpose and are asking for her firing. I believe she got a one week suspension thus far.

I personally watch First Take and Mike and Mike about 3-4 times a week and love it. The banter between the Mike's and Jay Crawford and Dana is great. They are all from the midwest coincidentally (except Greenberg) so the Ohio v. Michigan v. ND jokes are better for us, admittedly. But with the chemistry they all seem to have with each other, I would hate to see her get fired.

ESPN is a television network in the United States that focuses primarily on sports. Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg have at least a show or two on ESPN. Dana Jacobson is also employed to some degree (broadcaster?) by ESPN. At a recent "roast" of Mike and Mike, she got drunk and made comments about Notre Dame, which is a Catholic University in South Bend, Indiana (that's a state in the United States). Those comments included "Fuck Notre Dame" and "Fuck Touchdown Jesus", which is a famous painting of Jesus that can be seen from Notre Dame's football stadium. His arms are spread wide, as Jesus is often depicted, and it looks similar to the referee signal of a Touchdown in American Football.

Some Catholics are upset about her comments, though I've heard varying reports that she only specifically was referencing "Touchdown Jesus" and other reports that said she said it again without the "Touchdown". It's relatively big news in the sporting world right now, I've read about it on at least 4 or 5 different websites today.

As for the debacle. I can see if she was on the Notre Dame staff that they would have cause to suspend or fire her (ND is a private University). However, ESPN should hold to more pragmatic standards. This sounds like regular holiday parties around the country where at least one jackass gets way to drunk and makes an ass out of themselves.

Granted, I might have taken the overall base of this forum for granted by assuming everyone knew what UM means, however if you ever clicked on this forum in the past 6 months, it should be painfully obvious, even more so with my (roofles), what it stood for. Hell, I do believe we've had an actual discussion on what UM and OSU actually meant (it's ohio state before you google it) to others. Also when you read the last paragraph, me actually spelling out Michigan (UM) and Notre Dame (ND) and Ohio State (OSU), should give you an even bigger clue about who I was talking about. I guessed that the entire forum population could also piece that one together, alas I was proven wrong.

Also, when I say "Fuck Touchdown Jesus", then noted they removed 'Touchdown', it also should be clear that you are left with 'Fuck Jesus'. It's literally a 3-1=2 equation, sorry for the hard arithmetic. It should be noted that Christians like 'Jesus' and get offended when people speak ill of him, sorry if that part stumped you a bit as well.

Before you get further confused, the roofles comment was made by me, an OSU (Ohio State) student toward UM (Michigan). Because, you see, there is somewhat of a rivalry between the schools. I will save you the time researching by pointing you to the various college football threads, Anti OSU/UM (Ohio State/Michigan) threads, or maybe the one that actually reads "OSU v UM-The only game that matters". Further research can be done at your local video store via the dvd called "The Rivalry".

I don't know any of the rivalries nor do I know college abbreviations/acronyms.
I don't watch, listen to or read ESPN very often so I'm not real familar with their on-air/screen personalities.

With all that in mind, re-read your original post...

When I first read it (without googling all of the obscure (to me) references) your post (literally) could have been written in sanskrit and it would have made just as much sense to me.

Michigan is the all-time winningest program in College Football. Notre Dame is number 2. Between them they have a lot of National Championships as well. They are somewhat geographically close and they play one another every year. Back in the 80's the winner of their game had a fair shot at a National Title game.

I guess it would be like Chelsea playing Man U. in the EPL, or Inter-Milan playing Juventes. (I don't know colleges in Europe so I am trying to come up with some equivilent.

In recent years, Notre Dame has been down and Michigan has been good, just not great. OSU has done well and being Michigan's other big rival, they love to pour it on them any chance they can.

In fairness to Miir I didn't know (or really care) who this Dana chick is, who Mike & Mike are or wtf the "Touchdown Jesus" was. I used contextual clues to figure out this was some fundie assholes over-reacting to something that was said at a roast, which I thought was stupid but what are they supposed to do if not tell the rest of us how to live from inside their little glass houses?

On the whole not something I thought needed more comment but...

There is next-to-no interest in American College Football outside of the US... Unlike the football clubs you mentioned which have a worldwide audience.

Maybe a better comparison would be European Basketball.
