Da Vinci Tower - Dynamic Architecture Building

Post by Boogahz »

The Da Vinci Tower (also known as Dynamic Architecture Building) is a proposed 313 m (1,027 ft), 68-floor tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The tower is expected to be architecturally innovative for several reasons. Uniquely, each floor will be able to rotate independently. This will result in a constantly changing shape of the tower. Each floor will rotate a maximum of one full rotation in 90 minutes. It will also be the world's first prefabricated skyscraper. 90% of the tower will be built in a factory and shipped to the construction site. This will allow the entire building to be built in only 18 months. The only part of the tower that will be built at the construction site will be the core. Part of this prefabrication will be the decrease in cost and number of workers. The total cost will be 23% less than a normal skyscraper of the same size, while only 90 people will work on the construction site. The majority of the workers will be in factories, where it will be much safer. The entire tower will be powered from turbines and solar panels, and five other buildings in the vicinity will also be provided with electricity. The turbines will be located between each of the rotating floors. They will generate 1,200,000 kilowatt-hours of energy from the movement of the floors, and the solar panels will be located on the roof. Construction of the Da Vinci Tower is expected to be completed in 2009. Architect: David Fisher.
If the Dynamic nature of this thing wasn't amazing enough, the tower can power itself AND the area around it throught he wind turbines and solar panels. This was the first I had heard of it...no clue what else has been out there.

This Video breaks down the differences in the building, the method of construction, and power. Pretty amazing if it all works out: http://www.flixxy.com/dubai-dynamic-architecture.htm

This sounds like vapourware to me: "Since the dusk of humanity man has seeked..."

The dusk of humanity would be the bit where we die out.

We have seeked nothing, we've sought a lot of things though.

They might be two different disciplines, grammar and architecture, but would you pay for a building designed by people that make two errors in the opening sentence of their pitch?

Maybe grammar ain't their thing.

Maybe they're much better at building shit.

I financial geniarse you giv me all your money i makes you RICH man in too weak!

Yeah. People with the kind of education it takes to successfully pull this off, and the financial backing, can't put together a grammatically correct pitch. That's believable.

If it's in the UAE, is English their first language?

I also doubt that the engineers and architects working on the project are at all related to maintaining their web site. Hell, I notice grammatical errors all the time on sites that ostensibly have editors devoted to journalism.

That said, it's rather unprofessional to make those kinds of errors on your public-facing site, and I'm a bit of a grammar policeman myself sometimes.

hahaha... Since the dusk of humanity... that's awesome coming from dubai. I guess peak oil has passed!

it's pretty neat looking... but unless you had the whole floor to yourself (mucho euro!), you couldn't be in total control of the rotation... People with motion sickness might not enjoy their stay. They make cool shit over there though, like an ice bar in the middle of the desert, and... islands.

No, but most of the people that actually work in the UAE aren't citizens anyway, so the point seems rather moot.

I just think it looks a lot more like a press release to pump a stock price than reality, time will tell.

I believe the primary language is Italian?
The “Club” behind Dynamic Architecture

To bring together internationally renowned engineering firms, consultancies and industrial leaders in his pioneering Dynamic Architecture project, David Fisher has created the ‘Dynamic Architecture Club'. Most of the Club members are already associated with major projects in Dubai .

The members are:

-Infinity Design Established in Florence , Italy , by David Fisher, with the aim to develop the Dynamic Architecture concept, this “studio” has a rich experience in various fields of design, including hospitality, interiors as well as of industrial design and pre-fabrication. The group of architects, working next to Fisher, were deeply involved with “Architettura Applicata” following site execution on various international construction sites. The “studio” has been engaged in the last two years exclusively in the development of the Rotating Tower design and technology.

-Kriston, from Greece , will be in charge of construction management. Kriston has about 30 years of experience in the Middle East market, Africa and Europe in industrial and civil buildings, infrastructures and marine works and marinas.

-LERA – the Structural Engineering firm of Leslie E. Robertson from New York . Starting with the World Trade Centre in New York in 1969, Robertson has been associated with landmark buildings like the Bank of China in Hong Kong , the Shanghai World Financial Center and most recently with The Burj at Nakheel's Waterfront Dubai, set to be the tallest tower in the world once completed.

-Bosch Rexroth AG is one of the world's leading suppliers of drive, control and motion solutions. In over 80 countries the Drive & Control Company develops, produces and sells components and systems for industrial and factory automation as well as for mobile applications. With over 28,200 employees Bosch Rexroth AG achieved sales of approximately 4.6 billion Euro in 2005. Bosch Rexroth is part of Bosch Group.

-Viega, with more than 2,000 employees, 3 factories and 12,000 plumbing-related products and systems, is the leading plumbing industry in Germany . Viega will be in charge of plumbing systems and will make sure that the quality of the water matches that of a “green” building.

-Kerakoll is one of the world's biggest chemical companies for the building industry, with major international divisions producing professional laying systems, specialized in chemical products and solutions for the restoration of historical buildings. This Italian giant for special additives and finishing materials will supply their latest product lines.

-Bovis Lend Lease (UK) is one of the world's leading project management and construction companies, using industry best practices when working with clients to create high quality, sustainable property assets. The Group has a presence in over 40 countries. spearheaded by regional hubs in the UK , Australia and the US . Bovis will co-ordinate logistics, schedule and quality control, Bovis is also the project management consultant of the new three lines of the Dubai Metro project.

David Fisher is the Chairman of the Club Leslie E. Robertson is the Vice Chairman and Ugo Montevecchi is the Vice Chairman Executive of the Club. The Club will manage also the activities aimed to the integration of the technologies related to the Rotating Tower .

The construction works of the building units will be carried out mostly by the RTT (a Dynamic Architecture Group company) at a purpose-built factory in Jebel Ali, Dubai . The Club members will supply therefore services, technology and/or their products for all future Dynamic building to come.
