According to wikipedia...

Sewell Chan of The New York Times writes: "At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body."

It is sad to see someone apparently kill themself. I think some of the demons that make them become great actors or comedians end up killing them. They can escape into certain personalities, but sometimes they can't get back the one they truely are.

The Crow was a movie that would have mostly appealed to a small subset of people but got extra exposure from this. A Batman movie doesn't need much extra attention.

Plus, Brandon Lee died on the damned set of The Crow and you had the ghouls going because they thought they could see it happen.

I don't doubt there will be a small bump, but nothing substantial. That's my opinion at least. Not exactly the first thought that rushes into my head. I love the people asking "But what about the Batman movie, did he at least finish it first?".

It'll drive up ticket sales for anyone that's remotely interested in him, just to see his last performance. The same way, if I remember correctly, that Brandon Lee's previous movies gained in popularity after his death. It's the whole fascination with dead people that we have.

I'll also admit, one of my first questions was whether they'd finished filming Heath or not. If so, then it shouldn't have been keeping him up anymore so I'm not sure I buy the sleeping pills bit.

Well watching Batman is gonna be weird now. Other than that, I don't really see this as much more than a morbid extension of the usual celebrity obsession thing. It's sad when people die though, but I was never a fan (although I hoped Batman would change that).

I was going to see the next Batman flick anyways...I enjoyed the last one and dig Nolan's and Bale's work. Fucking bummer that Ledger died, regardless of the circumstances. He was a very talented actor.

Really sad that he died, but the only movie I have ever seen him in is "10 Things I Hate About You," so I have no real opinion on his acting quality. Was very hopeful (still am) for his TDK performance, since I trust Christopher Nolan to pick the right actor for the character (he did a perfect job in Batman Begins, minus Katie Holmes).

By most accounts, he was a really nice fellow and a loving father. Rumors I've seen range from a well hidden drug problem to someone who drank water and only took sleeping pills as a recent thing to *drum roll here* help him sleep. There was some speculation he might have accidentally took more than he should.

Frankly, if he was sick and took his own life or he accidentally died, either way it is a tragedy regardless of his acting ability.

As for Heath Ledger, more and more the evidence seems to be pointing at an accidental overdose and I agree with Lynxe its a tragedy regardless of his ability. I did enjoy what I have seen of him (including that old series Roar and A Knight's Tale).
