The thing I learned after working in call centers for years was that doing these things only guarantees you hold time without a person or automated system on the line as you get transferred.

If you're going to go through that kind of routing trouble, just listen to what the system says and go to the right place the first time.

um, yeah, if you keep entering crap, you get through to a random operator...Say "operator" at each prompt, ignoring messages

The issue is not the options it asks to route your call to the correct person. The biggest issue is that most of them do everything possible to make it extremely difficult for you to reach someone. Almost as if they just want to frustrate the hell out of you hoping you'll just hang up and go away. They never seem to have the option "My option is not listed, just connect me to someone."

That is where following the directions on that page fall apart. They assume that you call the number and then follow the directions. I used that page years ago, and once you have gone even one layer into the system, the directions do not work as well.
