My new 360!
I just got a shiney new 360 elite! My wife cetianly did her research too. When it arrived via UPS, she checked the lot number on the box and knew it had both the falcon chipset and the new cooling system. My wife also got me a second controller and 8 games! I really don't know where to begin, so I'll offer up the titles for your advice.
Ultimate Alliance
Gears of War
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Assassin's Creed
Bioshock
Forza 2
Fight Night Round 3
Dead Rising
Beautiful Katamari
Need for Speed: Pro Street (going to return this for either of the 2 older games. This shouldn't have even had the NFS header attached. This is yet another technical racer, nothing more.)
Need For Speed: Carbon
Rock Band
She also gave me 50000 MS points to spend on the arcade. I'm curious what other games people think are worth DLing. So far I've gotten:
Geomotry Wars
Pinball FX
Assualt Heros
Undertow
Feeding Frenzy
My gamer tag is SillyEskimo.
Having never seen any of the next gen systems on an HD set, I have to say I'm pretty overwhelmed with the overall gaming experiance. I'm certianly glad I waited this long though.

Re: My new 360!
For the Arcade you can't go wrong with Symphony of the Night. Cloning Clyde and Arcadian Warriors are also great for mindless playing.
50k points? You'll never run out of that...

Oops, that should read as 5k, not 50k! I still have a lot of points left over though. Maybe I'll sit on em for awhile.

Wait till you cave in and get Rock Band or GH3, then spend points on DLC! Or grab Oblivion and get the DLC for that! And get Mass Effect! I was kind of hoping I'd score a 360, but this new monitor will have to do

I just want my old 360 back
This week we had the power cord for my wife's laptop stop working, my 360 stopped working, her car battery died, my kids computer monitor died and our spa is not working.
Great freaking week!

Forza 2 is nothing but another technical racer. I'm not a fan, hence the hatred for NFS: Pro Street. God, what a dissappointment. I've already bought NFS: Carbon and it's better than Pro Street. I'll keep Forza 2 around for awhile to dick around with. It came in the same case with Ultimate Alliance, so not sure how easy it would be to trade in.
I'm only about 30 minutes into AC, but I think it's pretty good so far! I've heard it gets repetitive later though. I'll likely stick it out and beat it.
I'm starting to feel the temptation of Rock Band. I'll wait until I beat some of the games I have before buying new ones though. Oh yeah, NHL 08 is looking pretty sweet too.

AC is a love it or meh title.
I haven't heard of anyone that hated it however I heard a lot of meh from people.
I loved the title myself and it's got a permanant spot in my collection.

I enjoy it myself, it's cool concept, but after a while doing pretty much the same thing over and over gets a bit old.Animalor wrote:AC is a love it or meh title.

Congratulations on your gift bud. It looks like your well rounded with games to give you that ultimate 360 experience.
I totally know how you feel as far as being overwhelmed with all the goodness of the 360. When i got mine for my bday it felt like xmas, but two months early hehe. it was great to sit there and already have a bunch of cool shit to look at... even before putting in a game. i literally spent about 2 hours playing on the xbox dashboard alone... downloading demos... looking at movie clips... customizing my dashboard etc. It was like having everything that i love in digital media, but under one hood.
I also have the elite, and believe me when i tell you that the huge HDD comes in handy... especially if your a packrat like me when it comes to downloading demos and stuff.
Enjoy your new toy dude~

Re: My new 360!
Just got my system a couple of days ago. I saw a premium w/ a 175w power supply (the one true way to know it's a falcon) and scarfed it up. I picked up NHL 08 and Bioshock the same day and Call of Duty 4 today. Bioshock is one creepy cool game and NHL has some great controls to really bring you in (although the stick handling motions are still a bit jerky). The controller kicks ass. I'm not in Live yet as I still didn't spurlge for the wireless network and receiver yet.
I'll probably get fifa next and some driving game. Dirt appeals to me as does Forza 2 (get it as a pack in with an unreliable system or not, I decided not). I'm waiting for Gears to come down in price as it should be a greatest hits title soon. I never have enough time to finish any rpgs any longer else I'd have Oblivion, but I'm going to have to pass on that.
It is such a good system and I haven't even gotten online yet.

Re: My new 360!
You really should get online soon as you can download a ton of playable demos to better evaluate games before purchasing. Free stuff on Live will keep you busy for quite awhile.Chidoro wrote:

Re: My new 360!
The ability to download the demos on Live has saved me from several potentially bad purchases. I haven't played many sports games online, but that is just because I have heard too many stories of people wanting to protect their "winning" records by disconnecting their routers at a specific time. I know that not everyone does that, and I don't expect that I would actually beat everyone. It would piss me off if it happened though.
You might also check out a Gamefly subscription depending on how much you feel you might play. You can keep the games for a discounted price, and you earn bigger discounts as your membership goes on. I have kept a few games so far, and I have been happy with the quality of the discs. I believe I have only had one game that I thought was freezing due to a defective disc, but apparently the game itself was defective in online play (think it was Test Drive Unlimited).

Re: My new 360!
I had that happen to me a couple times in NCAA football. I finally worked up the courage to play online and figured I would get smoked and both times I was winning big in the third quarter and bam, disconnect. Pissed me off. I have not tried Fifa, but it happened in Fight Night as well, so I stopped playing them online.
Gamefly has been good for me too. They were quick with shipment the first month, but the last one took almost a week, otherwise I really like it. Especially for shooters I may want to try but I see no value in replaying.

Yeah, Gamefly has been slow as hell for me since before the holidays, but it is nice to have a rotation going for when I have time to play something.

Re: My new 360!
Gratz on the purchase. I agree that demos are the way to go. It would have saved my $^60 from buying the steaming pile of shit that is NFS: Pro Street. Do yourself a favor and hit up the greatest hits selection. I think CoD 2 for $20 is a steal. Very fun game. Also, make sure to check out the arcade for all sorts of fun games. There are lots of games on there that appeal to my wife since they aren't super involved. Pinball FX is easily my favorite arcade game, and well worth 800 MS points. The only complaint I have is that these people should be putting out a new board every month at least.Chidoro wrote:Just got my system a couple of days ago. I'm getting down to the point where I have the vast majority of the games I wanted. I'm sitting on 18 games, and god knows how many arcade games. My favortie purchase has got to be Rock Band. That game gets a lot of attention around my house and is a great example of the best the 360 has to offer to people that have never seen it before. I think Halo 3, Orange Box, NHL 08, and possibly a handful of other lesser titles. They really, really need a sequl to Ulltimate Alliance. That is another fantastic game IMO.
I'm still absolutely in love with my 360 and play it daily. Actually, I just took a break from a 2 hour Pinball marathon!

I. Fucking. Suck. at Gears of War. So bad in fact, I've set it to the side for awhile (obviously). I have a lot of other games to play, but I fully intend on revisiting the game. It certianly is nice to look at. I'm just stuck in FPS mode and it's proving hard to break that mentality. I mean it. I really, really suck at that game.*~*stragi*~* wrote:let me know when you start gears of war we can co-op that shit up

Re: My new 360!
There are a couple of games that I wish I hadn't traded in now to play em in HD. Gears is one, Bioshock is another.
For multiplayer FPS's last year, my faves were still R6V and Shadowrun.
