ON OR OFF
Ok seriously, I need this question answered. There are some of you (tonight has been particularly obnoxious) here, and many of my live friends from other places that can't seem to decide if you are going to be online or offline. Seriously, there are a few people that were literally online/offline 6 or more times in less than two minutes, and every time it's a damn distraction! What exactly is it that requires you to get on/off so many times!
I don't understand it! Once I get online, I am on - except when I am switching between playing a game with an instrument and a controller (since xbox can't let you do something simple like shut one off and plug the other in, you have to restart the damn console) but I can't imagine that you are doing this once a minute for 5 minutes straight.
Seriously, if there is some great thing I am missing out on let me know so I can join in on the fun!

Re: ON OR OFF
It may have been a networking thing... who was appearing to do that tonight? I was in rock band and I saw a good number of alerts, but it didn't phase me... I'm just curious if you thought I was doing that, because I was on the whole time solid.

Re: ON OR OFF
Nope not you, it was the usual perps - waran, anirask, satsujin (there may have been more but I know each of them was on and offline at least like 4 or 5 times each in the couple hours I was on.)
It is usually the same people, and it hasn't happened until recently, but other people I have talked to have bitched about it too. I don't think I've ever noticed that w/ you. If it's some problem w/ networking or live I would like to get to the bottom of it so I can just shut off friend alerts or something, cause the beeping and the friend flashing across my screen never fails to distract me when I am playing guitar hero or rock band (ps, in the time I was writing this waran got on/off twice.)

Re: ON OR OFF
Well popping in different titles drops usually drops you offline then back online for the game. Originals are a culprit of this. as well.
Being that I have a wife/kids and other obligations, I will often enough drop off to do something else then come back online to play later on.

Also, installing updates for games/dashboard will knock you on and offline. I've also noticed it happen when I am inserting a game.

Re: ON OR OFF
Strange, I have never been kicked offline when starting a game unless there is a update for the game that I need to download. And I wasn't saying like, get off and then back online 5 hours later, but if I was going to be away from my 360 for 15 minutes or even a half hour I wouldn't even bother shutting it off. Hell I usually don't when I'm going to be away for an hour or two and I've never had any issues w/ my 360
I normally don't care, it's just super distracting when I'm playing rock band and the last few nights I've literally had a message pop up at least once a minute the entire night (and I only have like 30 or so people on my friends list!) Guess I didn't know about the originals thing though, so maybe when I pick up Psychonauts I'll be doing the same thing, haha.

Yeah, I am never bothered by it unless it's in something like Guitar Hero/Rock Band. I guess that if you'll be playing one of those games for a while, you could always turn off the notifications.

This is true! Yeah other games it could happen every 2 seconds and I probably wouldn't even notice it, I don't know why it makes a difference in gh/rb.

because you have to focus on the scrolling notes. I can't play those games for too long without vertigo issues as soon as I look away from the television.

I get a kick out of that... after looking away from the screen to something like the floor, a circle in the middle of your focus will be melting together and moving. trippy!

Re: ON OR OFF
I had a 500 note streak broken on LaGrange on Medium the other night cause my phone rang and I had to pick it up.
I was not a happy camper to be sure.
As for turning it off and coming back 20-30 minutes later, yeah I'm guilty of that. Mostly happens around the 8PM EST range when it's time to put the daughter to bed.
I've also been playing a lot of Psychonauts recently too. =)

Don't look at me, once I am on its rock solid on all night. We got a second 360 recently, so I have to play the newer one under my wife's login (Quyrean) while I play mass effect while she is busy finnishing her game on puzzle quest. For the record, Puzzle Quest (and our epic wors over playtime on it) are what motivated us to get a second 360, finally. Our routine is now Rock Band on the PS3 til bedtime, then PuzzleQuest/Mass Effect until we pass out.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.

This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Re: ON OR OFF
I think you have me on your buddy list, but the reason I go On and Off 1000x times is because I have to eject/close my dvd tray 1000x to get it to realize i'm putting an xbox 360 game in the xbox 360, not a dvd player.

Re: ON OR OFF
Yeah, I am hoping i get RRoD one of these days, since the problem I have didn't get extended when they extended the warranties, and it showed up after the first year. Or I could do what my friends recommend and go buy a new one at Walmart, and just switch xbox's, return. Apparently that's worked for them twice.Funkmasterr wrote:Aardor wrote:I think you have me on your buddy list, but the reason I go On and Off 1000x times is because I have to eject/close my dvd tray 1000x to get it to realize i'm putting an xbox 360 game in the xbox 360, not a dvd player.

Re: ON OR OFF
You know come to think of it, I bought mine there and they didn't scan the serial number like other places do. A friend of mine from work sent his in due to RROD, got his new one back after 3 weeks, turned it on and got the RROD again.. sent that one in, two weeks later (two days ago) he got that one back, and it won't work on the HD setting (w/ the hd cables) - they told him they have never heard of that happening before and can't do anything.Aardor wrote:Yeah, I am hoping i get RRoD one of these days, since the problem I have didn't get extended when they extended the warranties, and it showed up after the first year. Total bullshit, I pity the poor support rep that takes the call from me if I get that kind of run around from them when mine breaks (assuming that it does.)

Re: ON OR OFF
You must caught me when I was fighting the console/Rock Band in switching out instruments to get the right control for what I was trying to play. That shouldn't happen again on my end cause I'm totally staying with drums
Sorry to cause you some pain there. It can get annoying to me to see that friend message pop up to me as well.
Doubt that kind of craziness will happen again
Sorry to stress you out

Re: ON OR OFF
Haha, was half kidding, and to be honest, with xbox live being the the total shit pile it's been the past two weekends I am actually completely oblivious to it now. They seriously need to fix whatever the issue is stat, it's been over a week now, and for a company Microsofts size that's an unacceptable time frame to have whatever the issue is fixed.Waran wrote:You must caught me when I was fighting the console/Rock Band in switching out instruments to get the right control for what I was trying to play. Re: ON OR OFF
Frankly I wouldn't have even been trying to logon to the dashboard had it not been that i had dumped some points into an HD movie and was having problems downloading it.
there was a thread on the Ms boards about the issue with some people in canada with this issue and they figured out the problem was casued by a block of IP's here in Canada, mostly owned by Rogers, that were affected by the issue. I got a PM on those boards that they thought that they had fixed the issue and asked that I try and get back to them.
When I was finally able to hit the dash, my movie download worked and we're going to be watching it tonight. (Incidentally, this will be the first non-game HD content that I'll be playing on my TV. I'm really psyched to see how it will look.)

Out of curiosity, how big was the download? And is it 1080i/p or 720p or lower?

Re: ON OR OFF
Movie is License to Wed. File size is 4.1 or 4.3 GB's. The entire download took about 2 hours or so. I suspect that if the speed was maintained, I could've started the movie at about 15-20% download.
I believe it's 720p for all XBL Video Marketplace HD content but I'm not sure.

Re: ON OR OFF
Quick update. I watched the movie last night and the quality was great. Everything was really crisp and clear. The flick was in 720p. The file also comes with 5.1 audio when in HD and the sound was great as well.
I just wish it was cheaper to rent the content. It's ~ 8.50$ for an HD rental. It's just not worth the cost.
