Anyone beta test PS2 EQ?

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

Anyone beta test PS2 EQ?

Post by Innkubbus »

I was looking at it and people seem to like it quite a bit...I was wondering if anyone with PC EQ experience beta tested it and if you did what you think of it?

I am beta testing it. The only downfall of it (major one at that) is typing. It is essential to type yet so fucking hard. Though the zones and graphics are great. Not to mention gameplay. I love it, but typing can drive people to madness.

Yes, I am beta testing it. Since October or so.

As far as typing is concerned, buy a keyboard, less then $20.

The network adapter was like $40 or $50. I used a cat 5 and plugged it directly into my network hub heh. Works fine. But you can also use a phone cord.

It will store your network log-in and password on your memory card. I was so suprised how easy it was to set everything up.

I can't really go into detail regarding it....you give up that right when you enter beta.

I will say while it is simlar to EQ-PC it is also very different. And I haven't hit any glaring bugs like I did in the PC version of beta testing.

But I'm merely testing it. My intention is not to switch to PS2....just to help them kill any bugs I can find.

Aggro bugs are huge as well, you can pick a camp apart without any aggro.

You might want to stop searching if you only want to use it to beta test...the beta ended a couple weeks ago, just warning you ;)

Yes, Dec 23th actually was the offical last day of the Public Beta.

And I also had issues trying to find the network adapters. They seem to sell very fast, and I have no idea why....I mean how many games out there require internet so far for PS2?

EQ and a sniper game or something and EQ is still beta right? That was crazy.

Anyway I checked Funco and Gamestop they were both out....Media play only had one.....they really better increase the number of network adapters in stored before next month if they plan on releasing in time.

I mean hell EQ-PC had a bad start because people couldn't get connected because the servers couldn't handle it (and I had warned them of that when I was in the PC version beta, but they didn't listen). But this time even if the servers can handle it...noone will be able to get a network adapter.

I hope the up the production or fix the distribution channels so they ship almost as many network adapters as they do games. And I hope the retailers are informed of the requirement of a network adapter in BIG BOLD TYPE because they probably have to place a seperate order for them.....and most of them won't do that without prompting...I imagine there are procedures in place already for something like that...lots of games have specific needs.

Anyway it doesn't matter to me...I'm sticking with the PC version. I'm too lazy to start over this late in the game. Although a lot of aspects of the PS2 version are appealing

Maybe the say it's released publically I'll post a list of what I already know is different compared to PC version so you know if you want to buy it or not......

I got it in early Dec. Played it for a few days. The graphics were cool and the game play was decent. I didnt have a keyboard, so typing got frustrating very quickly. I doubt I'll buy the game when It comes out. Everytime I try one of these new mporpg(sp) (AC, AC2, Daoc, UO, PS2 EQ) I keep expecting it to feel like to first time playing everquest, but unfortunately that just isnt gonna happen. Atleast, not until im around old friends again =)

I didn't find the graphics very impressive, and there were a few things that didn't make sense after playing the PC version. As far as gameplay and being able to talk to friends, the PS2 version is inferior IMO. However, if I had never played the PC version, the PS2 version would be cool...once I bought a keyboard. And as was mentioned before, the setup was incredibly easy for high speed internet. (Would you like to autodetect settings? Yes/No)

As for the network adapter, I got one at Wal-Mart after going to all of the online stored and seeing "Sold Out". At Wal-Mart, the guy that worked at the video game counter was like 75 years old, so I'm not sure how qualified he is in the gaming department. Anyway, he told me that if they had any, they would be by the memory cards and controllers. That didn't sound right, since it was a $40 item, and anything in the gaming area over $20 usually has it's own Brinks guard, so when I didn't find it with the controllers, I started looking in the display case, and at the bottom I noticed yellow boxes that I had never seen before. Sure enough, they had 5 network adapters for the PS2. Probably because noone at Wal-Mart knew what it was. Anyway, you might try this method. Also, when you buy the network adapter, you get a mail-in voucher for a network version of Twisted Metal.

I got the last one a Target. The graphics were very good IMO, considering it was the beta and the final version will have some touch ups in it im sure. Something I didn't like were durabilities. Your weapon/armor can rot over time/combat. It doesn't take much for the durability to go down either.
