gunnery sergeant or some shit. tons of XP from just using your favorite weapon until you hit Rank 3 with it, then swap to a new one. i had to start with MP5 on spec ops until i unlocked AK because that semi auto M4 is fucking horrible. Headquarters is also shitloads of XP as long as you win :}
this is one of the best multiplayer FPS games to come out in a long, long fucking time
so much original shit in here.. and its all so simple. stuff that every FPS for the past 5 years should have had
cant believe you people are buying the 360 version. scum!

Most of my gaming circle is on XBox Live. I've paid for it already, own a 360, don't need to drop 500$ in my computer every two years.cadalano wrote:gunnery sergeant or some shit. tons of XP from just using your favorite weapon until you hit Rank 3 with it, then swap to a new one. i had to start with MP5 on spec ops until i unlocked AK because that semi auto M4 is fucking horrible. My 360's only gone defective on me once, MS replaced it free of charge and I've never had one that's outright died in 18
months.
Frankly, in my opinion, console gaming is an all-win situation. The money I've saved on PC upgrades this year I'm gonna be putting in an HDTV right after the holidays (hopefully).

From some of the research I was able to do (IGN profiles on the game PS3, Xbox 360, PC -- Box on the right of the page), it looks like the 360 / PS3 will do 18 and the PC will do 32 in a game.
Re: CoD4
The single player, while being quite well done, is definitely on the short side. It could have done without the lame 'sticky bombs' and 'shooting things while someone else drives' tasks as well that we've seen in previous Call of Duty games. And more missions with the 50cal sniper rifle would have been cool.

I think Noel was implying that he would use a wireless keyboard/mouse to get rid of the wires. I know the keyboard works for typing messages in xbox live, no idea if it would work for fps. This just brought up a good point though...where is my force feedback keyboard and mouse????

Seriously, if they want me to move to console for FPSes, I want a keyboard and mouse. I currently use a great wireless keyboard and mouse for my PC. Given that the 360 is really just a crappy unupgradeable PC, it shouldn't be that hard to add mouse/keyboard support.

Isnt there a Keyboard/mouse adapter that plugs into the xbox 360? I saw one on Ebay.
And has anyone played CoD4 on 360 yet? Hows the MP? I played it on PC and i'm in love with it... Is it as good on 360?

Re: CoD4
I ended up grabbing the PC copy since I had several coupons/certificates that needed to be used, and I saw nothing else that I wanted on the PC.
I have not played all of the way through the campaign yet, and I have only really played it in short increments. I like what I have seen of it so far. The mission as a spotter/gunner in the AC-130 was almost exactly like the video that was going around of a Hercules crew firing on fighters in the Middle-East a year or two ago. It was almost exactly like it...
Multiplayer is pretty cool. I have only played a few domination matches, and I only wish the maps were bigger. I understand the urban combat setting that the game mainly focuses on, but I think the larger maps of the Battlefield series with urban settings for some of the capture-points is more my style. I started ranking up pretty quick, and I think my favorite kills have been with the grenade launcher attachment on the assault rifles. I have several kills from nailing people in the chest with them, even though the grenade doesn't appear to go off.
The Killcam tends to get annoying...not in a sense that I don't like it coming on, but that it lets me see how much I left myself open to attack from a spot that I had not considered someone able to hide in.

why the hell would that annoy you? the whole point of the killcam is to show you how you died so you can learn from it. In any case, pushing F skips it
I finished up the campaign. The ending was stupid. Only one shot on the .50 cal was fucking idiotic. I was completely psyched to do a .50 cal minigame and it was pretty unbelievable that you really only get to use it for one shot (or more if you miss, i guess. I NEVER MISS.)
it was a lot less realistic than i thought they were going to shoot for.. i dont blame them. you cant get away with realism anymore for any target demographic that matters
multiplayer is fun as hell but now that i've spent some time on it i can see a few things i dislike. primarily its way too deathmatchish regardless of the game type. Contributing factors-- the maps are too small, as boo pointed out. The small size of the maps homogenizes all of the fighting in the game to be very close quarters and fast action unreal quakerment type. The small sizes makes it all feel very 2 dimensional. Additionally, they went overkill on the camper prevention.. on most maps the likelyhood that a motherfucker will pop out of ANY given doorway/window/car/ricebowl/whatever and kill you is very likely, all the time.. no matter what. People spawn everywhere, spawn points are constantly changing, and it takes like 3 seconds to move around behind someone and show up at half a dozen different places to kill them.
Sniping needs to be buffed- theres virtually no places on the small, urban maps to ever justify using them. 50% of the fighting is medium range and the other 50% is point blank and in most situations youre better off using an assault rifle for long range combat rather than sniper rifles anyway just because they are inaccurate as all fucking shit and do that pointless swaying motion despite the fact that I can hold an assault rifle 100% steady at all times. Take a G3 for example, you'll beat any sniper at any range with that thing unless they get lucky.. and its supposedly a medium range weapon
the final scope reward on rifles is horrible. red dot is superior to it in every way. I'd prefer it if they gave you a reason to keep using the weapon after you max it out since youre no longer gaining XP from it. It should be something that will help to make up the difference from no longer having additional XP income from weapon mastery

Re: CoD4
I understand the usefulness of it. I was saying that it is more of a "doh" moment when I see where I was killed from. In reference to your spawn point comments, I had one killcam view that I killed two guys in a room just to have 1 spawn in the corner behind and to the left of me while another spawned at the base of a stairway. I think that the spawn points being less static is a good thing, but I feel that they went too far with them in this game. I spend several seconds trying to get my bearings and determine where to go next, and with the maps being as open as they are, that means I am usually having to kill, or be killed, before I actually know where I am in relation to where I died.cadalano wrote:The Killcam tends to get annoying...not in a sense that I don't like it coming on, but that it lets me see how much I left myself open to attack from a spot that I had not considered someone able to hide in.

Re: CoD4
I agree. There should have been a whole mission where you snuck around sniping or something. If you miss he starts running to the vehicle so you can shoot again but it's kinda luck at that point. If he gets in you fail the mission.cadalano wrote:I finished up the campaign. The ending was stupid. Only one shot on the .50 cal was fucking idiotic. Also redoing the AC-130 mission becomes obvious that the audio is the same everytime. "Get that guy by the car" when there are cars all over the place or "Get that guy there" like you're supposed to know where 'there' is or what 'guy' he's talking about when they are all over. It was definitely a cool mission the first time but replayability on it is a bit lacking. Also it's 'blurry'. To see what I mean fail the mission then redo it. Or it might start automatically I can't remember. Anyway, the image will now a lot clearer. At least the three times I tried it.
For all practical purposes, as I stated before, it's basically Call of Duty 2 (PC version) with new weapons and settings. If you don't have a problem with the realism in that game you shouldn't have a problem with CoD4. The maps are a bit more 'open' but definitely linear in how they funnel you through certain places. I actually advanced to a certain point and then nothing happened simply because I didn't go the way the script was expecting. I had to backtrack just to get things moving again then go back to where I was. Oh and I still hate it when games have doors that you can't open. Or windows that don't break. Some do and some don't.
The final piece of intel is also stupid to locate as it's not there at the beginning of the mission. It actually spawns near the end which I thought was quite lame.

Re: CoD4
I played some more Call Of Doodoo 4 last weekend (friend bought it) and I still don't like the game. It's not that I think there is anything particularly bad (well one thing, more to come in a sec) it's just another shooter.
I personally love FPS's, but every new one that comes out has a shorter campaign, and if that trend continues I will not be buying FPS's anymore. I also still maintain that the rewards system is crap, and if it is adopted by other games I will also not be playing the multiplayer.
FPS's (this is especially true for faster paced games like halo, unreal, etc) can be frustrating enough to me, people find the cheapest, easiest way to win and will do it over and over, even if it takes the fun out of the game for someone else. Then there are also people who eat, breathe, sleep and shit FPS's and will always be better than me.
When you add the element of people gaining rank above me and having advantages (scopes, ammo, etc), even if they are minor, that just adds to the frustration factor for me and takes the enjoyment away (my major fault is I play to win, and if I don't, it's not fun for me.)
I think every weapon, addon, etc should all be available right away - completely opposite of the system CoD uses.. But that is just me.

Not being able to get through doors/windows is also a major frustration of mine, and the CoD games have been some of the biggest violators in that area.Aslanna wrote:I agree. Re: CoD4
I prefer the unlock system, and I think that the developers are following the MMO route with them. I have been wondering about something else that you mentioned before...why do you not like the unlocks, but you agree with them adding additional maps/etc to collector's editions? That makes no sense. You would have no problem spending extra money for stuff, but you don't want to have to earn it as you rank up? At least they aren't as hard-core about unlocks as America's Army, where you cannot even choose particular maps/specialties until you complete particular tasks.

Precisely for the reason I stated above, anything that gives someone else the upper hand over other people they are playing against takes away from the fun factor for me. Extra maps in a collectors edition is different, you aren't getting anything that makes you able to do better at the game, you are just getting a different map to do the same things on.Boogahz wrote:I prefer the unlock system, and I think that the developers are following the MMO route with them. Re: CoD4
what I would change about the unlock system is instead of a totally linear system, I would allow players to spend XP on priced items so they can get whatever they want right away. I dont need 5 assault rifles. I just need a G3.
No customized classes on LAN play is pretty fucking horrible, though. Apparently theres only 10 pre-built classes you can choose. (havent tried it.. thats just what I heard)

Re: CoD4
This is where Battlefield 2/2142 had unlocks right. You either work through a tree for the class you want to improve (BF2142), or you just unlock the weapon you want for the class you want to improve (BF2).
You want to be able to play on a map that ~10% of people have? Additional maps on a Collectors/Limited edition is stupid for that reason alone. Most of the addon's/weapons that people have unlocked in CoD4/BF2/BF2142 don't really have as big of a boost as you seem to think they do. Plus, if you kill them, you can pick up their weapon and try it out for yourself!Funkmasterr wrote:Precisely for the reason I stated above, anything that gives someone else the upper hand over other people they are playing against takes away from the fun factor for me. I understand you can pick up their stuff, and the point I was trying to make is with the other contributing elements I cited in the frustration factor with FPS's, the advantage doesn't have to be much at all to throw things out of balance, IMO...Boogahz wrote:This is where Battlefield 2/2142 had unlocks right. You want them to give you something that you didn't earn. It's like the old Everquest screenshot with the Visa window to buy whatever you want.Funkmasterr wrote:I understand you can pick up their stuff, and the point I was trying to make is with the other contributing elements I cited in the frustration factor with FPS's, the advantage doesn't have to be much at all to throw things out of balance, IMO...Boogahz wrote:This is where Battlefield 2/2142 had unlocks right. Re: CoD4
I didn't earn it, I payed for it. I guess you could argue what it would be like if people could pay for upgrades in a system like CoD has too, and my answer would be that I would most certainly not play the game then. Considering that most of the ranking systems are a complete joke (trueskiLOL), I want as level of a playing field as possible, and with that in mind, a system like CoD4 has seems counter-productive to me.

Re: CoD4
Some of the perks and maps do allow for sniping, although I personally hate the rifle/scopes that are available so far. I am sure I will try the Barret once I unlock it since it will shoot through walls. Sniping almost requires you take the perks to have Claymores and the UAV jamming. The Claymores and Martyrdom perks give me almost as many kills as I get from my weapon.
For the record, the AK-47U is THE WIN.

Re: CoD4
I am almost finished with the campaign on veteran, and I've got to say that some of the shit that uncreative developers do to make games difficult is taken to a whole new level of gayness in CoD4.
1- The enemies should not be able to take any more bullets than me, find another way to make the game challenging.
2- The enemies should not be russian versions of Ms. Cleo, they should not know precisely where my head is before I am even in the same area as them, again - find another way to make the game challenging.
3- I have been studying the enemies in the part I am having trouble with closely, and they can shoot indefinately without reloading, again, bullshit, find another way to make it a challenge.
How hard is that shit? Those qualities in a game take the enjoyment out of it for me, and annoy me to the point of no return. The single player has been ok, nothing great.
I like the multiplayer perks but I think every option should be available for everyone from the get go, and instead make achievments for completeing challenges/groups of challenges.
P.S. M16 rounds would not go through 2' of steel, nor would they go through 3 or 4 feet of concrete - just in case you were wondering.
P.S.S. - Not having any checkpoints in the mission "No fighting in the war room" is retarded and poor game design. EDIT: Making the few check points that are in the level only reachable if you get there in a certain amount of time is even worse.

Re: CoD4
the single player was very ho-hum. it was just a showcase... not much challenge at all and nothing too interesting. i'm fine with that because the multiplayer is great
hit rank 55 like 2 months ago btw.. reflex-sighted P90 is the best weapon in the game by far. Triple grenade/Martyrdom/Stopping Power are the best feats
Best way to rank up is to find a team DM server that plays long games. the longer the better. 30 minute games will get you ~3k points per game as long as you dont suck

Re: CoD4
I got into some sick S&D servers over last weekend. I was pulling in some nice points, but nothing like the 3k you mention. I believe I am at around rank 26 or so (Captain 2?). I will probably be playing off-and-on this weekend to get a few more accomplishments done. I like the way you can get bonus experience by doing them. I unlocked Vandal 3 (blow up 15 cars or so) and another for kills with explosives at the same time in a recent game. Much fun. I have mostly been using LMG's with sleight of hand (fast loading a M60 rocks). I also like the LMG with the grip attachment to help with accuracy/recoil. It is actually easier to advance than I thought it would be when I first read about it.

Re: CoD4
Progression hasn't been an issue, I have been playing multiplayer for about 5 or 6 days and I'm rank 23 I think.. I just don't like the way it's done. I still use the M16 I think juggernaut/last stand/something else.. Pretty sad that damn near every time I get downed to my last stand I get a kill, I've gotten as many as 5 while laying down in last stand, lol.. I play mostly Hardcore team dm so martyrdom is out of the picture, which is fine by me cause it annoys the shit out of me.

Re: CoD4
i use last stand on FF penalty servers.. with a golden deagle its actually insane.. If i have to whip out the deagle i really dont feel disadvantaged at all.. 2 shots kills anything.. you just only get 8(?) shots before you have to reload the thing :}

Re: CoD4
S&D i dont care much for. all the points come from the win bonus and theres not very many kills for the individual. too much reliance on your team sucking or not sucking.Boogahz wrote:I got into some sick S&D servers over last weekend. I should have also stated that it helps a lot to find a server with instant respawn on DM. You can honestly suck shit and still get a ton of points and top the roster as long as you get back in there and start chucking nades again ASAP.
in team DM you can get high points even if you dont get the win bonus, as long as you yourself are not doing terribly. Teammates in team DM are basically just indicators of where the enemy is at, depending on which direction their limp body falls in. I love baiting.

Re: CoD4
I think sabotage are the ones I hate.. The goal is to get the bomb to the enemies base and detonate it.. However in every game I've played of that type, all everyone does is camp the bomb so no one can pick it up and farm points from kills.. I really wish they would fuck off and go play fucking deathmatch if thats what they want to do.. drive me nuts.

Re: CoD4
In addition to my previous statements: Every enemy should go the exact same way they every time (if you play something multiple times), they should use the same weapons every time, have the same grenades (and not throw them if they didn't last time). If they can't make the game challenging without doing all of the things listed I honestly don't think they should bother having their un creative douchebag developers even consider making another game.

Re: CoD4
um...you're saying they should be less creative to avoid being uncreative? I think you need to get away from your console for a few weeks.Funkmasterr wrote:In addition to my previous statements: Every enemy should go the exact same way they every time (if you play something multiple times), they should use the same weapons every time, have the same grenades (and not throw them if they didn't last time). I'm saying that after 4 Call of Doodie games if they still haven't found a more creative way to make the campaign challenging (not to mention making it longer) then why bother making another one? I won't argue that I probably play my 360 too muchBoogahz wrote:um...you're saying they should be less creative to avoid being uncreative? Re: CoD4
We get it you don't like the game or the franchise. Guess what this is a thread about call of duty 4 so quit shitting in it. Go back to Halo3 or EQ2 or whatever the hell you it is you like. As far as them, not making anymore CoD games, sorry! The next one has already been announced. Also, considering that the game is in the top3 of reviewed games over at metacritic for every platform minus the Wii, your in the minority with your thoughts on this game. So STFU already!I'm saying that after 4 Call of Doodie games if they still haven't found a more creative way to make the campaign challenging (not to mention making it longer) then why bother making another one? Re: CoD4
Yeah, it's a thread about CoD4 and that's what I'm posting about you fucking moron, so how about you shut your ignorant fucking mouth. Ratings of the game and the number of people buying it don't mean a goddamn thing, pokemon is the best selling console game ever and its fucking horrible. People just slurp this shit up because it's a call of duty game, and people are quick to accept the ridiculous, unimaginitive ways that developers have been making their games challenging for reasons unknown to me. I might be in the minority, but that's because I'm calling it like it is, and other people are willing (and excited, it seems) to slurp up the bullshit tossed at them.Sumdaor wrote:We get it you don't like the game or the franchise. P.S. Why is it that people that are hardcore into CoD have some kind of superiority complex they show towards people that play/prefer halo? It's pathetic, and I'm sure I would own you so hard in either game that you would actually physically flinch, so piss off.

For hating the game so much, you sure have put in a lot of time. Most people, if they don't enjoy a game, don't fucking play it.

i just think its adorable that he found the single player campaign, which is basically an interactive movie reel, to be "challenging"

You would be the first person I have heard (that I know personally, or on infinity wards forums) that did not have trouble beating the campaign on veteran. And if you didn't play it on veteran, you have no business commenting.cadalano wrote:i just think its adorable that he found the single player campaign, which is basically an interactive movie reel, to be "challenging"
