30 Days of Night

Post by Funkmasterr »

Fucking bad ass vampire flick. It portrayed them as a lot more vicious and brutal than most other vampire movies I saw, but I liked it!

I would definitely recommend this if you like horror movies! Lots of gore, good enough acting, and an interesting twist on vampires.

I liked it, but there were just too many unanswered questions to really give it both thumbs up.

Such as:
[Show]
The whole point of the vampires coming to the town was, presumably, to feast on a whole town of people without that pesky sunlight problem getting in their way. Having said that, what was the point of blitzting the town on the first night and killing almost everyone right off the bat? I mean, if they make it a point to come to the town to enjoy the month of night, why kill everyone the first thing? If it were you, wouldn't you keep string it along some? Clearly they were intelligent enough to plot and plan, right?

And then, assuming they do kill everyone straightaway, don't they have 29 more nights to do a bit more methodical search? The only plan they have for getting the rest is a bait trap straight out of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? It seems as it the only time they ever found anyone after that is when whoever it was was running through the street shouting and banging? Wouldn't they, I don't know, stake out the General Store, or the one place in town that still had light and heat? Or, if you're that interested in slaughtering people, isn't the better plan to just make your way to the next town instead of hanging out to pick off a few stragglers? Just burn the place down and be gone already!

I like the movie, just really disappointed in some of these things.

Too often it seems it is the peaceful and innocent who are slaughtered. In this a lesson may be found that it may not be prudential to be either too peaceful or too innocent. One does not survive with wolves by becoming a sheep.

I can see that, I think they blitzed the whole town like that so that people couldn't try getting away (I don't think the vampires were really aware that the people had no where to go.

Also, was the ship at the beginning supposed to be the vampires ship? If so, that is an interesting way for them to travel.

Another thing I was interested to know is if this persons take on vampires is that they are all really vicious, or if this was just a band of bad apples.

I am trying to not get too bent out of shape about the unanswered stuff because I'm hoping they make another movie and expand on the story more, I guess we'll see though!

We sell the graphic novels (that this movie is based off of) at work. I've never read them but they seem creepy. Maybe some of the answers you seek are in there?

It's already in the comic forum, and just from your spoiler posts, I can surmise that the movie for whatever reason didn't translate well.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

I saw this yesterday. I liked the movie. I thought it captured the tone well enough - very dark, isolated and bleak. I liked the portrayal of the vampires - very vicious and unfeeling - not the romantic Anne Rice crap.

The head vampire kept striking me as familiar - I had to IMDB him when I got home - Great stretch for him considering the last movie I saw him in was The Constant Gardener.

I just watched the DVD and I thought it was a pretty good flick. Mak pointed out all the same issues I had with it. It definately had some graphic violence! It showed what most movies pull away to avoid and give the viewer the assumption. One scene had a guy take 2-3 axe chops to the chest and neck without the camera breaking at all.

I'd give it a 7.5/10

I enjoyed it for what it was. It will get repeat viewings from me for sure and it has a secure home in my horror collection.

Had some gore going for it, but was overall rather boring. The ending was right out of a Blade movie and was pretty silly that it would even work.

We need a good horror movie.. this wasn't it.

I mean seriously.. how do you get every cell phone in town from all of the people without anyone noticing to put them into a pit for a little bonfire? And how did fag boy brother get away without a scratch while the vampires were in making sushi out of his grandmother?
