Superbad
I saw Superbad tonight, and it was abso-fucking-lutely hilarious. I think it might be the funniest movie I've seen in years, I liked it better than 40 year-old virgin.
Go see it, unless you're a wet blanket and don't like vulgar, funny movies.

I can't put my finger on why Michael Cera is so goddamn funny, but he is.
I can't wait to see this.
Btw, Seth Rogen deserves to become one of the biggest actors in comedy.

Re: Superbad
My friend's radio show interviewed Seth Rogen recently, and he claims that he wrote the vast majority of Superbad when he was 13 years old, and that the script is mostly unchanged since then. I don't think I did anything worthwhile when I was 13.Fairweather Pure wrote:Btw, Seth Rogen deserves to become one of the biggest actors in comedy.

LOL
EW is calling him a young Bob Newhart and I guess he was on a radio show that introduced him as Michael Cena instead of Cera. Instead of telling him it was Cera, he politely told the guy to pronounce it Chena.

Went to see this last night, it was hysterical. I loved the Orson Wells jokes, there were like 4 people in the audience who were laughing at it, the rest of the people were mildly confused. That made it all the more funny.

Alright, Superbad was fucking hilarious. I was wheezing from laughing at some parts. I think the flashback to Seth's childhood "problem" was where I first started to lose it completely.

Yeah me too, did you stick around after the movie? They showed more pictures and some of them were fucking hilarious.
Re: Superbad
Funny movie.
"he's the anti-poon"
Laughed a lot throughout the movie and wasn't too critical of anything that was a bit over the top.
40 Year Old Virgin
Knocked Up
Superbad
That's a nice group of movies. Compared to:
Supertroopers
Club Dread
Beerfest
I'd say they're doing very well maintaining quality movies.

Yeah, I pretty much lost it when I saw the Mr. T one, I walked out of the theater with tears streaming down my face.
Re: Superbad
I really like that guy Cera, anyone who was in Arrested Development is awesome.
I thought Superbad was pretty funny, a couple of laugh out loud moments. Best dick joke teen movie thats been made in years. Not super specially good or anything, but still decent.

I saw Black Sheep on IFC On Demand. It's definitely not serious and it's pretty good fun. The special effects are done by Weta Workshop, so it's a lot better than you'd think for a B-movie like this.
Re: Superbad
Hehe, i wanna see Black Sheep, been waiting for that for a while. NOT a theater movie, but probably good on DVD on a movie/drinking night

Re: Superbad
Most funny movie i've seen since American Pie. I really wish they'd have shown more tits in it but that just leads me to believe the girls in it were real teenagers not 18-20yr olds acting. Aw well, was still one of the funniest movies i've *ever* seen.

I have not laughed that hard (out loud even) at a movie in a long time. This is going to be one that I own when it hits the streets.

Re: Superbad
Hot Rod had a main character that acted exactly as he meant to, a supporting cast that filled their supportive roles adequately, and had humor that was executed exactly as it was meant to be. While I don't blame people for not liking this movie, the production value was high and it was well liked by those who find humor in well crafted stupidity.Tyek wrote:This is the prime reason pot will never be legal. It was a really good movie.

I am well aware the avatar contributes to posts like Tyek's. I'd rather have the opportunity to make a post like mine above this instead of Tyek not having as good of an opportunity to enlighten us with his predictions. After all, without Tyek's post I wouldn't be able to defend Hot Rod, which was a hilarious movie I would pay to see again.

Right.. He shouldn't have the avatar so that people don't say shit like that. Actually, he shouldn't have to worry about people reducing him to his avatar in a conversation, but trying to push his buttons by pretty much ignoring what he said and then making a comment based off of his avatar is a fucking obnoxious, idiotic thing to do... I'd be surprised anywhere else.Boogahz wrote:Think the avatar has anything to do with it? Re: Superbad
No, it was based on his comment in the Vick thread. He stated that a professor told him how enlightened and open minded potheads are compared to the rest of the general population. I was just goofing on that with this comment, which may bear out his professor's beliefs. When based, solely on grosses, Hot Rod is nowhere near as popular as Superbad.
While the general population does tend to favor the mediocre over the truely inspired (which neither of these movies are by the way) I would tend to follow the general population on this one and say that with its story of friendship, growing up and general mayhem, Superbad is a far superior film to the 5 minute sketch turned into a 90 minute film that is Hot Rod.

It's superior if you want a story. Hot Rod doesn't make any commitments. Superbad has a great story, but I like that Hot Rod doesn't. Well crafted stupidity. I enjoyed Superbad so I don't really understand what we're arguing about.
BTW my professor that said that was Mr. ****. PhD Musicology. I can't believe how much shit I've gotten here for what a professor of mine said. It's almost funny. And I didn't use the word "enlightened."

I didn't care for the movie at all. Juvenile humor can be funny with good writing (see South Park: The Movie), but imo the writing for this movie was just dumb. Cera was wasted in this film.

Don't get me wrong, Superbad was funny. It just wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. Maybe it's because the "teen coming of age" flicks have been around for decades. I felt like I've already seen a lot of the jokes and situations before. It was still a good flick though.

Re: Superbad
I watched this movie again last night and still had a few laughs. It's not a classic but watchable in you're not expecting more than basic high school low brow comedy. The only problem I have with it is that two of the characters are going to Dartmouth yet nothing associated with intelligence plays into the situations in the movie. It may as well have been Ohio State University they were going to.
