Grindhouse will be split for DVD sales

Post by Fairweather Pure »

I'm posting this here because it's already generating some pretty strong feelings on both sides of the argument.

Here are a list of some of the issues surrounding this decision.

1. Grindhouse bombed in the theaters. They are trying to make up for lost revenue.

2. The release day for each film, Deathproof and Planet Terror, are a month apart (wtf).

3. No one knows which film, if either, will contain the fake trailers. These were huge draw for many (and some say the best part).

4. The entire concept of the Grindhouse experinace is completely negated by realeasing them seperate.

5. Of course there will be a later release, SE or some shit, with both movies, exclusive packaging, and all the fun stuff that should've been done the first time. See point #1 above.

Each of the two individual releases will actually be the uncunt version, so that is a big plus to me. However, the milking of the fans is so utterly apparent here that it kind of pisses me off. In the end, even with a future SE release, the movies would be on 2 discs so you'd have to change discs anyway. I'm not sure whyy people think the difference between buying them seperate or getting the 2 movies in one package is such a pain. An SE version would run 35$ anyway. In a way, I would be happy to see a customer boycott of these movies actually work. Unfortunately, since it did so poorly in theaters, any bad sales would be associated purely with that and not to any sort of fan revolt. Also, it would only further hinder any future creativity like this particular theater presentation tried to do. It's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

The backlash is pretty fun to read on fan sites if you want to get into some of the finer details and see some interesting points of view.

As long as the Special Edition has the uncut footage as well (I'd certainly fucking hope so), I'll probably just hold out for that.

Does that mean it wont have Rose Mcgowan in it?

Seriously though I think thats a shitty thing to do, the whole concept is of the Saturday night double feature and this completely negates that deal. If they do release this as two separate movies I'll probably just grab a bootleg off a friend of mine, which is something I try and avoid.

I'll probably wait as well, even though there's been no official word of a 2 disc special edition.

On a side note, there's also going to be a new uncut/unrated version of Kill Bill hitting the shelves soon. It will have loads of extras. While I enjoyed Kill Bill, I'm not going to dish out money to buy what is essentually the same movie. Extras are nice to have, but it's not the reason I buy dvds. Just give me the theatrical film in full widescreen for cheaper. Throw all your fancy extras and commentary on a specail edition and charge more if it will save me money on the basics.

A few movies have excellent extras, and I would gladely pay extra for them. Panic Room is film school 101. LotR is so comprehensive and entertaining that I enjoy those almost as much as the film trilogy itself. Most film extras are shit though, and I would never knowingly pay extra for them.

I'll bet there will be bootleg versions combining the 2 films within hours after they are both available on dvd. Lots of people are saying exactely what you are.

Its a shame they choose to split them, no matter what the studio thinks, it IS a double feature, and should be released as such.
Well, they BETTER put in the fake trailers, they only showed ONE of them in the danish theaters (Machete), so i want them :). On the bonus side, we got the full version of Death Proof, complete WITH the lapdance instead of a "missing reel". They better include that one too, was one sexy scene.

Hehe, the Kill Bill collected are WAY overdue, its ridiculous how long they waited on making the full version available.

I just purchased 'Death Proof' and 'Planet Terror', does it matter which one I watch first?

The order they were in at the theater was Planet Terror then Death Proof. It really doesn't matter which you watch first though, as I do not remember any kind of crossover material. Did they end up including the trailers that were shown during the intermission on either dvd?

I keep meaning to grab these, but I am holding out hope that they will be packaged together at some point.

Only 1 trailer made it to DVD, and it's on Planet Terror.

Check out the fucking Japanese Grindhouse DVD. Why the fuck do they get all the cool promos and rare editions?!?

The only thing I can think of which delayed the release of that package in the US would be some kind of specific distribution deal. It sucks!

More on this please? Will it combine both of the releases into one? I never picked up the set, so this appeals to me.

It has been rumored and hinted at since '06. There have been a couple of different box cover shots, and QT has discussed it several times. It will have an NC-17 rating and cantian a shitload of extra footage. Runtime will be well over 4 hours long. Do a Google for "The Whole Bloody Affair" and you can read all sorts of info about it. I still don't think I've read anything offical, just lots of rumors and tid-bits of info.

I know, split movie in 2, AND only the Machete trailer, nothing else :(.
On the bonus side, we DID get the lapdance scene you guys missed out on. The only "missing reel" was in Planet Terror, when the El Wrey/machinegun leg chick sex scene start.

Planet Terror had some nasty-ass scenes. I had to look away thru some of them, but it was such a good movie, I kept watching it until the end like a champ!
