Rock Band

Post by Winnow »

You have to wait until the last third of the video but there's some live footage of Rock Band game in action: (the last 90 seconds of the video)

http://news.com.com/1606-2_3-6194769.ht ... eo.6194769

I'm not sure what that other stuff is. It looks sort of like Second Life. Wait until near the end of the video.

Made me think of the White and Nerdy video from Weird Al!

It looks like the audio portion can be heavily supplemented with the real vocals so it doesn't sound as bad as it could.

Edit:

Found much better clip focused completely on the Rock Band demo:

Doesn't that drum kit seem excessively large for a gaming accessory?

The guitar controller is about as big as it gets for me for any game-specific accessory. At least it's compact and can be stored out of sight in a livingroom.

I know this is wishful thinking but it would be great if they managed to get cross platform play working for the 360 and PS3.

Compared to the guitar, I think the scale of the drums are just fine. The battle of the bands mode in the GH3 videos looks like fun as well.

Guitar still looks like the only fun part.

I guess you'd have to have played drums in the past to get any real enjoyment out of it, and no fucking way does singing look even slightly fun in that game. Maybe simply for the "hay i'm part of a rock band" feeling, but otherwise, no, it looks boring as hell, she wasn't even looking at the screen.

Sining can be fun, if you can actually sing. The singing and drumming parts appear to require actual musical talent, which will be something different in the franchise, for sure. I already sing along to most of the GH2 songs I am playing just fine, at least sub expert, so I expect a lot of people will be doing something like one of the guitaurists singing while playing. The real question about this game is if people will shell out $200 for the complete kit or not. MY wife and I will, of course, but I don't see cheap asses who normally steal their games or Joe Sixpack the midwestern gamer shelling out for the peripherials.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.

This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

WTF is with all the midwestern references lately? Anyhow - I will probably pay for the whole kit just for the fun of it - my girlfriend would probably enjoy singing, and I wouldn't mind trying out the drums as well. Mainly though, I'll be looking forward to getting a good group of people together (online probably) to kick some ass.

GH3 is looking good so far too, Online FINALLY!

I'm sure the drums will be playable on the controller the same as the guitar parts are in GH. I'm curious if they'll allow the 360's headset mic to be the input for the voice part of if you'll be forced to buy a special one.

I'm not into this stuff but a cool thing would be both singing and playing the drums (like Phil Collins) or singing and playing the guitar at the same time Geddy Lee style.

Even "funnier" would be a keyboard part in this game...I chuckle thinking of a keyboard with only 4 or 5 keys. *chuckles*

I remember reading in game informer magazine that you would not be able to use the 360 mic, you have to use the special one for whatever reason.

That would require an entire separate controller. Ferrell does not sing.

I am from central Wisconsin and from personal experience, I know that getting people who have realistic middle class incomes (ie not California inflated ones) to shell out $200 is going to take a lot. Once people see the game, its a different story. My wife and I bought a PS2 and two guitaur controllers for my siter and her husband last chrismas and it wasn't until people in her neighborhood saw the game in action that they actually felt compelled to shell out the 150$ for the two guitaurs and game combo, so I feel I know what I am talking about on this.

As for the Microphone, the Xbox Headset is too low quality of pickup for what they are doing in the game, so ultimately you have to use their (corded) microphone. I really wish Microshaft would unpucker their asshole and let them do a proper wireless setup. Or, failing that, they should just make a USB hub that handles all the wireless from the game peripherials.

No, I am pretty much the same here as I am in "real life" as a good number of the other posters here can attest to. Unlike a lot of people, the relative anonymity of the internet doesn't give me testicular fortitude I wouldn't otherwise have.
