The Bigs 360

Post by Winnow »

Seems like a fun game. It's sort of a baseball game on roids (bad choice of works these days!)

I got my ass kicked on easy so I don't know the controls very well.

The player models etc are all pretty good.

The one thing that stands out in this game is the Homerun Derby which is ok, but Homerun Pinball is addicting!

You stand in the middle of Times Square in New York and hit balls into the lights, cars, etc for points. If you take out a group of lights, say all three taxi cabs, you get bonuses, etc. For me, this was the most entertaining part of the game.

Here's a video of the Homerun Pinball.

Other than that, here's the normal game play:

It's arcadish and focuses on big plays.

The Homerun Pinball is worth a blank DL DVD but that's about it!

Lots of non exclusive games have been coming out for the 360 recently. Dirt, The Darkness, Ratatouille, Forza 2, Shadowrun, and Transformers have been fun. Bigs (just the Homerun Pinball) and Project Sylpheed, Wartech, Surf's Up (worst game ever)...not so much fun.

Forza 2 is exclusive, isn't it?

Dirt, The Darkness, Ratatouille, Forza 2, Shadowrun, and Transformers have been fun.
The reviews I've seen for The Darkness, Ratatouille and Transformers have been less than favorable.

When you actually have to pay money for a game, your expectations are going to be higher.
I guess when you steal games it doesn't matter so much if you get bored of it in a few days.

I agree totally. I'll keep that in mind when commenting on these games.

60.00 is crazy talk for many of these games.

Shadowrun (if you like online FPSers), Dirt and The Darkness are three of the latest games that are worth consideration for actual $$ (and Forza 2 if you like racing games)

Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Bioshock, Alan Wake, GTA4, Assassins Creed (Creed starting to sound over hyped) are money worthy upcoming games.

The shame of it all is that Transformers, Ratatouille (might be worth it for those with kids), Homerun Pinball (Bigs) are fun but value/time you'll play them isn't there for $50-60.00. I suppose the Gameflix model is best to check these games out for a day. I really don't play most games longer than what someone would play a demo for.

Surf's Up holds the record for shortest time played for me. It had to have been less than 2 minutes. It's criminal that parents may have purchased that game for kids. Fortunately, many of the games offer downloadable demos on the 360.

Metacritic is a site that everyone should have bookmarked. You get the combined review score, which doesn't mean a whole lot sometimes, but then can scan down through all the separate game site review scores and link to to their articles. It's an excellent resource for researching new and upcoming games (along with movies, DVDs, Books, Music, etc)

http://www.metacritic.com/

Things to be aware of on Metacritic are that movie critics are extremely anal and give movies much lower average scores than games, etc get. There's no relevance to ratings between genres.

Live Free, Die Hard (movie) got a 69 for example. That's a great movie score while it would typically suck for a game on Metacritic

I completed Call of Juarez in fairly short order - the multiplayer was just boring for me - so I traded it in yesterday for The Darkness - I am having fun with this so far!

I don't think Assassin's Creed will be anything less than amazing. The over-hyping is getting a little old - but it isn't going to change the game mechanics and content - just stop reading about it and you will get excited again! It was also pushed back AGAIN to November....

So... Do you think the reviewers payed for their copies then? I'm thinking not!
