Good to see the Pope working on the hard hitting issues

Post by Sabek »

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/06 ... index.html
Teh Pope wrote:An unusual document from the Vatican's office for migrants and itinerant people also warned that automobiles can be "an occasion of sin" -- particularly when they are used for dangerous passing or for prostitution.
I tell you that truly "dangerous passing" is teh instrument of teh debil!

Teh Pope wrote:'Drivers' Ten Commandments'

The "Drivers' Ten Commandments," as listed by the document, are:

1. You shall not kill.

2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.

3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.

4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.

5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.

6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.

7. Support the families of accident victims.

8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.

9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.

10. Feel responsible toward others.

It is from a very real document released by the Vatican.

Not really, but avoiding the issue and deflecting attention to something else is nothing new for the Church or most politicians :p

Wasn't the Vatican responsible for allowing the use of the carpool lane even though the passenger is not of driving age?

Gonna have to go against the grain on this one. I am sincerely glad for and pleasantly surprised by this document. This is one of those rare times that institutionalized religion uses its influence to promote something very positive. If these commandments save even one life, as I'm sure they will, then they are a good exercise of power. I agree with every one of those commandments except maybe #5.

Maybe it's because I'm still drunk from last night, because I think I am, but I think I just kind of zoned out and stared at Xyun's sig image for like 5 minutes.

On topic: While I'm not against the message - people should be more conscientious when driving - something about the "10 driving commandments" coming from the Vatican doesn't seem right to me. First off, shouldn't the original 10 Commandments cover all this? Don't kill, and so forth. Secondly, it kind of feels like they aren't taking the Bible/word of God that seriously when they parody the original.

I find it absolutly hilarious that the Vatican maintains the "Vatican's office for migrants and itinerant people".

Why? There still are those people. They need to be called something. The y just haven't changed them to some new term. The Vatican hasn't caved into political correctness yet is all. It's actually one of the few refreshing things about the church.

I beg to differ. Had it not caved to political correctness, they would still be called the "Office of Gypsies and other indesirables".

This isn't about the church 'not caving in'--it is about ignorant asshats that denounce and degrade people that live in fucked up countries and/or are trying to gtfo of fucked up countries to live in places like the US where they may actually be able to provide themselves and more likely their children with some modicum of freedom.

That being said, I do believe that a person or persons should abide by the rules--I have friends and coworkers from around the world who busted their asses to become legal citizens. And with that said, I could never, and will never deny someone's chance due to those same laws....contridictary, but spot fucking on that I value people over process. Damn shame that some see plight and flight as "those people" and not their fellow fucking neighbor.

That said--fuck the church. They have planted the seeds of racism, sorrow and bloodshed for too fucking long.
