The Venture Bros.

Does anyone else enjoy this show nearly as much as I do? I've been absolutely hooked since the pilot first aired. Season 2 started in late June and this past Sunday's episode was great (I personally loved the Leon reference about assassinations).

It's basically a twisted, demented, hilarious take on Jonny Quest as well as a bunch of cartoons and comics from the 70's/80's. In place of Benton Quest, there's Dr. Thaddeus Venture, who's a middle-aged failure living in the shadow of his dead father. Instead of Jonny and Hadji, there's Hank and Dean, best described as idiots. The real gem of the show if you ask me is Brock Samson, Race's counterpart, a "swedish murder machine" with a knack for going off on eye-twitching and vein-popping rampages. Patrick Warburton is the voice behind Brock and he's simply perfect.

While I once was a fan of Family Guy, I personally find the Venture Bros. much more entertaining and funnier. For better or for worse, it's not the same type of humor of random cheap laughs. This show, along with maybe Futurama and the Boondocks, is about the only reason I'll ever switch to Cartoon Network anymore. If you've ever been a fan of animated comedy, I urge you to try this show out - I figure you'll either love it or hate it, but few scenes can warm my heart like one of Brock wiping the blood off his windshield while plowing through the Monarch's henchmen.

I haven't tried it myself as I prefer to simply watch the show on TV, but I think you can actually catch the current week's episode online at the adult swim website.

You are not alone...this show is imensely popular, adult swim shows the # of veiwers each week, and venture bros is always high up there.

I just wish the shows started at 8pm, so I didn't have to stay up so late to watch the lineup!

Love this show. Death-prone kids FTW.

Haha, the fucking death montage was funny as hell. I particularly loved the one where Dean was running with scissors.

Ahh, so they die a lot as an on-going gag, like Kenny from South Park? I caught an episode of this when I was in New Orleans in 2004 (we don't get Adult Swim up here :( ) and I remember one of the kids dying.

Was an entertaining show, tho I wasn't quite prepared for the bizarreness of it!

No, not at all. This spoils the end of Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2 but if you're interested in the explanation:

[hide]Throughout Season 1 Hank and Dean's origin is never explained... we never see or hear of a mother, and at one point Dr. Venture says something along the lines of the boys having 'prototypes', etc. At the end of Season 1 both the boys die.

In the first episode of Season 2, we learn that the 'real' Hank and Dean died a long time ago, and Dr. Venture has been cloning them every time they have an 'accident'. Brock and Venture mention this was the 14th time it's happened, and there's a montage of them recalling all the previous incidents, showing Hank and Dean dying in a wide array of ridiculous/humorous ways.

I think most people expected the clone explanation, but the opening title sequence for Ep. 1 of Season 2 was funny actually. Instead of Hank and Dean running across the screen it showed Dr. Venture and his little deformed twin brother running around as the new Venture Bros. - it made me wonder for a second.[/hide]

I'm gonna resist clicking the hidden content. There's a good chance I'll download these one day. Thanks for defining what I'd be spoiling if I clicked it tho, much appreciated.

I just watched the first ep of season 2 on the tivo last night. That opening montage, set to "Everybody's Free", is one of the fucking funniest things I've seen this year.

I always skipped past this show on Adult Swim, but I watched a DVD set with some friends the other day and I'm totally hooked. The pace and carefree aspects of the show are really what make it so awesome.

When Brock did some weird karate motion with his hands then jumped backwards into the driver's seat of a car (which was aimed at running him over) through the windshield while appearing as though such an action was a walk in the park to execute, I knew I was in love.

Yeah, this is a great show. I bought season 1 a while back, though I never catch it on Adult Swim. Is season 2 out yet on dvd?

I love this show too. Can't stay up to watch it, but I downloaded most of them. The death montage was hilarious, my favorites were the pit trap and the Batman one.
