what a great idea, i hope they have good follow through
in reading/watching OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of stuff on scientology, it really brings up the difficulty in distinguishing between a religion and a cult
it just seems like lingo for popular opinion, just like 'enemy combatants' vs 'hostages' , and 'terrorist' vs 'soldier'
ive always thought that when i do have kids, when some bastard tells my kid about heaven/hell/god/religion id try to take them to court,
that has to be psychologically devestating on a child, the concept of unearned/born guilt, eternal damnation etc..

Re: Earth's Greatest Lawsuit
Everything I have read about Mother Teresa says that interpersonally she was demanding, bossy, and bitchy. Admittedly that may only be a handful of articles, but I gather she wasn't someone you'd want to invite to dinner.rhyae wrote:Yeah, look what it did to Mother Teresa.Kriista wrote:http://www.earthsgreatestlawsuit.org/

Give it time. After 100 years, religious twits will rank her up there with all the other "saints" and there will be rumors of her pissing an oil barge full of grapefruit juice to save a million kids from starvation.

Re: Earth's Greatest Lawsuit
Several years ago, I read part of a book (I misplaced it before I finished it) by Christopher Hitchens on Mother Theresa. I'm sorry that I can't recall the title of it, and I'm too lazy to look it up atm. If you accept his premise, and I do for the most part, she's no one to be admired. One of these days I think I'll have to look for a copy of that book and finish it once and for all.Arborealus wrote:Everything I have read about Mother Teresa says that interpersonally she was demanding, bossy, and bitchy. Because calling someone demanding, bossy and bitchy is demonizing them...*shrug*...I'd call it humanizing. Those aren't really traits that people characterize as demonic.Avestan wrote:Man. . .this board can even demonize Mother Teresa. Wow.

Re: Earth's Greatest Lawsuit
Point being, nearly everyone is exposed to some sort of religious guilt in their childhood if their parents ever dragged them to church, it doesnt make us all psychologically devastated.
I don't believe in gods of any sort, or the devil, but I can play his advocate if I wanna.

Re: Earth's Greatest Lawsuit
ive never been a fan of the whole idea of trading 'salvation' for food/medicine in general, but that book you mentioned seems very interesting from the blurb/reviews on amazon
it depends on the level of churchiness your brought up with, i wasnt brought up too christian, we did go to church every week for many years, but when i was around 10 or so, my mother left the church she was going to when the pastor disrespected a woman getting a divorce(or something along those lines, i was young), so after that the religion petered out
but a childs mind is very fragile, and discounting the guilt/abuse all the contradictions in the bible really throw you a mulk, i remember asking my grandfather which came first, dinasours, or adam and eve, he told me to ask the priest/paster/whatevertheyrecalled
how do you wrap your head around soemthing like that as a kid, your view of the world becomes an inherently duplicitous one
now, factor in original sin, the tree of knowledge, female subservience, eternal damnation etc.., not even the faults of 'practiced' religion, the stuff thats in the book, that is fucked up shit that i wish i wouldntve grown up in, and i know id like to keep that away from my children when i have some
if you take away the fact that its a religion, what would you do if someone you didnt know told your kid that they have fucked up by default, better be sorry about it, or they will suffer for eternity, after they die
that sounds like child abuse to me
my original post was long the lines of how blurry the line between religion/cult are, i had read on other forums people mentioning that children should be educated on how to keep their eyes open for cults(it was a scientology discussion), but at somepoint youd have to distinguish conventional religion, what seperates the two?

Boo fucking hoo. If you want to talk to other diluted people like you and praise the greatness that is religion and jesus, mother teresa, etc (lol) go to church, this certainly isn't the fucking place for it. Here most people tend to focus more on something called "reality".

Re: Earth's Greatest Lawsuit
I see more "preaching" against religious views here than I see for them on a Sunday in Central Texas. Good example of Irony, eh?
Re: Earth's Greatest Lawsuit
the difference is, most people who preach anti-religion just dont want it in their lives(or politics), where as religious preaching works the other way around

That's not how it works around here though, is it?
Re: Earth's Greatest Lawsuit
I hate religion! Go away! Shoo!

Don't assume you know anything about my religious beliefs.Funkmasterr wrote:Avestan wrote:Man. . .this board can even demonize Mother Teresa. Wow.

My comment came from what is obviously an example of people on this board clearly (yes, clearly) spinning reality to support their own, narrow viewpoints. You can either choose to believe a "handful of articles" or common sense. I choose the latter.
There are plenty of ways to bash religion without going after Mother Teresa.
ps. Serious request because I really do not know. Define a diluted person for me. Or did you mean deluded?
