PotC III - At World's End

Post by Truant »

We just got back from the thursday showing.

I thought it was absolutely fabulous. Despite knowing that this was the final movie, and all must come to an end...the ending was not predictable. It ran 3 hours, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

My opinion is obviously very biased, I'm sure others here will like/dislike it for various reasons, but I highly recommend it.

(and as fyi for when you do go see it, there is a bit after the credits...as in the others)

Hollywood has surprised me before. I didn't expect any of the Batman movies of the 90's could've been worse than Batman Returns yet Arny and Clooney brought it! (I liked Batman Forever, so sue me)

I have not seen pt 3 yet, but in general, i don't think it could be worse than pt 2. :D

Only thing good with pt 2 was the hermitcrab-fella, Davy Jones and Kraken!

Is it worth staying for? I remember in the last one, I'd read here that there was something at the end, so I made my friends wait through 15 minutes of credits for something that was pretty anti-climactic! :p

Yeah it's a nice final touch for the story. It's also not 10 seconds or anything like the first one. But the credits are fairly long in this one to wait through.

And yeah, it's better than the second one. So far, of all critic reviews I've read (not user reviews), the only complaint was length...apparently they don't like 3 hour long movies.

I don't mind three hour movies if they can keep me entertained! Maybe I will check it out this weekend.

Just got back from seeing it. I loved it. My son is 6 and he got a lil scared, Davey Jones isn't his fave guy. Johnny Depp was brilliant as usual. It was better than the 2nd, but I also like the 2nd heh. And yes the credits are long, but the bit after was worth it to me.

Yes, or no question inc.

I heard from a reliable source (my friend's really good friend is that black guy (bartender maybe?) with the peg leg (he lost his irl in iraq, but i digress)) that there will be a fourth Pirates. I haven't seen this one, so without spoiling anything, is that even possible?

Ugh, 3 hours?

But if it's better than the second it may be worth a shot. I did have a lot of fun at the first one.

There's no real obvious loose ends left open for another movie. And I seriously doubt any of the current cast would be on board for another movie. Since it's disney property however, there may be straight to dvd productions done for the kids and collectors.

Final Answer: Not bloody likely.

It's possible as far as the story goes. They pretty much set up another adventure in my opinion with the Fountain of Youth.

Whether or not the cast would return isn't really what he was asking.

Anyway... I thought it was definitely better than #2. But #1 is still the best of the bunch. The 30 minute or so battle was a large snooze fest for me. And the 'wedding' scene was lame.

I also tend to think Keira Knightley, at least in the three Pirates movies, is a shitty actress. However I liked Keith Richards' part.

7/10. Could have been an 8 with better editing.

Im not sure if the whole cast would return. Ive read that this is Johnny Depps favorite char hes done and its hard letting him go. I tend to think he'd do another. I think I saw that Knightly wouldn't, but no big loss.

As far as leaving it open for another film, Id say yes. There were many things that left that open and I'd see it for sure.

Eliminate the entire first hour of the movie and PoC-3 isn't too bad.

Bloom: bad acting
Knightly: bad acting

A fourth movie would be a bad idea.

Upon reflection. PoC should have stopped with one movie. The "charm" of Depp slowly fades over movie 2 and 3 while the lack of interest in what will happen with Knightly and Bloom characters increases. All you're left with is the one guy's eye popping out every 10 minutes.

5.9/10

Who dies, who lives...who cares? Everyone seems to be dead or half dead. And yes, that wedding scene was like something out of a spoof movie making fun of PoC.

Depp is what makes the Pirates-series worth seeing, if anything.

Orlando and Keira = Ho-hum

Orlando feels less Guybrush Threepwoody now than he did in part 1!

Wedding-scene was typical Fairy Tale Disney-style.

My biggest gripe was that the Moray-Eel fella died, he was one o the cooler fishfellas, he and hammerhead

Not a fan of it. No need for that to be 3 hours, and way to much slapsticking and backstabbing. Yeah, we get it, they're ALL pirates now...yeah...ok...got it...again, we got it...

What was the deal with Calypso? "Grrrr, I'm really pissed off, grrrrrrrr....here's a maelstrom! Grrrr!!! Ok, I'm outta here now...gone from the movie, with no explanations or nothing...just gone, like I was never here. Like, the director and writers realized I was never needed in this film to begin with, and, well, they decided not to waist any more effort on my character."

I liked it. The sets and cinematography were beautiful. You could tell they had endless supplies of cash for this one.
I wasn't thrilled with poc2, but after seeing poc3 I went back and watched 2 again, and liked it better now that I knew how they tied up the ends. Maybe I'm weird that way.

The thing I didn't like about 3 was that most of the humor was based on someone saying something stupid then looking embarassed and wandering off.
