Free EQ server...quite a few players

Post by Asheran Mojomaster »

Ok in my search for a good EQemu server I came across this.

http://www.shardsofdalaya.com

From what I've been told its the most populated of any of the EQemu servers and from the few hours I've played today I like it. Its basically Original EQ + ROK\Velious\Luclin with a few POP zones I think with many completely new items, all completely new quests, stats work differently (all stats are useful now), and mobs in the zones are a little different...its not old EQ but it seems cool.

Some other cool features added into it too. It seems a lot of time has been spent on getting this server going and there are a few higher level raiding guild that I've seen. Its definately worth a try if you want to play EQ again but dont want to play with the crazy items and buffs of EQlive today.

Anyway, I'm thinking about trying this for a while and if anyone wants to group up and try this out, just sign up and gimme a PM or tell in game. My name is Ashran, playing a Ogre shaman and thinking about 2-boxing (they allow you to play 2 characters at any time, but no more than that).

I'm patching EQ now, I had it uninstalled. My college network restricts the ports on the patcher to the point where it crawls, so hopefully I'll be on this server within a day or two. I've been scanning their forums and rules, it sounds like a lot of fun with a completely new world to learn and conquer. I'm looking forward to it!

Yeah, I've been learning more about it, and its not the zones I said really. Its Original (and most zones have different names) + Velious + random other zones from other expansions. PoHate and PoFear arent in, but instead you have PoFire and PoTorment with wizzie ports to them. PoAir is in too, and I've heard that Valor and maybe one other plane are in too...but they are nothing like they were in POP, only the basic zone zone files were used.

I want to see what they've done with TOV. Supposedly lots of really fun raids at higher levels and even raid content for mid 30s to try.

Did they change the classes and spells as well?

What spells each class gets, the efficiency of the spells etc?

Any new abilities?

So far all the low level spells are the same, but I think there are some different spells at higher levels. And yeah, the classes are the same. Also, there are "styles" when you are fighting, kinda like discs, but they are based on your stamina bar. Even casters can use some styles, like defensive or offensive...I'm not really sure how they work yet but I'm gonna be playing around with them some.

One of the coolest things I've experienced are adepts. I'm not sure if its every zone or what but in many zones there is a boss mob called an adept that is a raid or at least a full group type mob that is specifically aimed for people that would be hunting there. Yesterday I helped fight the Beetle Queen in Centaur Hills (Qeynos Hills) with my lvl 11 necro. At first we couldnt attack her and couldnt figure out what was wrong. It seems that not only can you not fight them if they arent red to you (once they go yellow to you you cant hit them anymore), but you cannot even be buffed by a higher level character. I got a nice ranged item out of it, won the roll. She also dropped a very decent piercer for the level...it was like 5\15.

Anyway yeah, its definately worth trying.

I think I'm going to give this one a try.

I'm missing one of my Luclin disks.
Is there anyway for me to reinstall the expansion without it??

Run the EQ patcher, click cancel, let the patcher analyze your files. Then click Advanced, and select what expansions you wish to download. All are available.

Yeah, I thought that but the patcher is encountering an error and wont boot up.
I've only installed original through to velious so I think its because I don't have the right patch files that they're using now ..

Ran into another little snafu.

Everything is patched and ready to go but when I boot everything up in EQ windows my white mouse clicker can move about freely but the grey EQ arrow doesn't move.

As a result I can't even accept the rules of acceptance to play to get into the game let alone make a character.

So this is definitely a problem with the EQ windows program I think.

How can I fix this?

Well, you have to use EQW for this server...its installed by the patcher. I dunno though, you might want to go ask around on the SOD forums.

Try going into the advanced options on the Dalaya patcher, and select "Repatch All" and let the patcher run.

If this doesn't work, go ahead and run the EQ patcher again, and download up to Ykesha (so both PoP and Ykesha). Rerun the Dalaya patcher once again, and do the "Repatch All" option.

Return with results.

I had the issue (I wanted to check out the server, but got bored as soon as I ran to my starting area) and this fixed it.

just can't do it. I tried I really did but going back to EQ was impossible for me on many levels. I got the game to work but trying to remember how to mem or even walk was a test of patience that I just lack. I deleted it from my machine.

Got a level 27 druid on this server now named Uriel.

You guys should check this server out! I think that it's the uber fun.

I can hook some people up with some equipment/buffs and maybe a bit of power leveling if you decide to play.

trying to remember how to mem or even walk was a test of patience that I just lack.
That was my exact attitude when SoE gave me a free 30 days of play during the summer. After over an hour of rememming spells, fixing the UI, learning how to move around, and making hotkeys, I went LFG for about 45 minutes and said "fuck this". I just don't have the patience that game requires and all the seemingly small problems are much larger after playing WoW. Waiting on mana was putting me to sleep. I would kill a mob, then wait 10 minutes for my mana bar to fill up again. Fuck that noise.

I havent had this problem yet. I've restarted once because my Pally \ Necro combo wasnt working too well, but with my Cleric \ SK combo I have now, I'm kicking ass. Can kill evens-reds non stop atm, though they are only lvl 15. Only time I have any downtime is when I have to fight 2 reds or 3 lower level mobs at once, and even then its not much because both of my characters can bind wound for 60+ hps.

Got bored with it and uninstalled.

If anyone wants to take over my account just give me a PM for the name and password.

I have an above average equipped druid lvl 28 and a completely decked out level 14 shadowknight that any of you can feel free to use as your own. I don't expect to be on that server again. Both have excellent reps on the server since I've been leading a number of successful Adept raids.

How popular is this new server? If it's a free server I might be tempted to try it out. Is it hard to find groups and such ?

I've got an 18 cleric and a 14 wiz on there and I think a lvl 13 monk. The game is a lot of fun, it's just sometimes hard to find groups and it gets old 2boxing solo after awhile =P I will have to hop on there and see if i can catch some of you online

Yeah, the server is hard at lower levels, but I can get any of you 40+ in less than a week.

I PL'd my bard to 40 in like two days?

One of my guild members PL'd a paladin too 55 in like two weeks?

The game gets a lot more fun when you hit 65, and can start raiding stuff. Theres one zone called The Halls of Misery that has a lot of really creative encounters.

lol, SoD just brings back memories of the good ole days of EQ! However, after playing WoW, you will be in for quite a surprise. The lower levels are pretty tough, but once you get past those, everything gets smoother.

The graphics are still the same, but that really doesn't bother me. In fact, I always used the older models since I'd rather have the performance boost when multi-boxing.

As far as the zones are concerned, they have mostly all the zones from classic and velious, with some others from kunark and pop. Vex Thal was converted to this map called the Mansion of Portals which serves as like the Plane of Knowledge on live. Temple of Veeshan was redone and is supposed to have some really unique dragon encounters.

My cleric is 22 and my monk is 21 and it's starting to really get easier. The frogs in Guk are still around and I've been ripping them up lately. Next zone i'll head to is probably unrest!
