Cate Blanchett’s dedication to her craft left blogs beset with distress yesterday after red carpet photos of an emaciated version of the “Babel” beauty surfaced from a glam gala in NYC.

A gaunt shadow of her svelte self, Blanchett was pictured wearing a long metallic gold fringed frock. The gown’s accoutrements included symmetrical bruises peering out from Blanchett’s bony chest. Ew.

The Oscar winner’s shocking weight loss may have something to do with her upcoming movie role as a cancer patient.

Cate will portray the New Yorker cartoonist Marisa Acocella Marchetto in the film-verison of her acclaimed graphic memoir “Cancer Vixen,” reports realchangenews.com.

The film, like the book, will chronicle Marchetto’s battle with breast cancer that began just weeks before she was to be married and just weeks after she’s lost her health insurance.
