Any of you VV'ers play DoTA?

Post by Swoned »

Hey everyone. I was hoping to find some people that might be interested in forming a group for some DoTA matches. For those of you who might be unfamiliar with DoTA - it stands for Defense of the Ancients and is a map for the Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne expansion. DoTA is very different from Warcraft 3 in the sense that it's not truely a RTS. I'm personally not a big fan of Wc3, but I think DoTA is great.

I'd ideally like to find enough people to 2v2 matches or even up to 5v5 matches, if the demand here exists. You don't need to have 1337 skills to play. In fact, if you're bored and would like to try a new game then feel free. My main goal is just to find a good group of people who are somewhat mature (most of the time  ) and won't whine and quit in the middle of the game, which is what normally happens when trying to find pickup games.

I know many of you from the good ole days of EQ back on Veeshan, so I figured what better of a place to look for some players than here! If you're interested, you can just reply or PM me. You can also try to get a hold of me on battle.net under the name 311junkie (Azeroth Realm). You can also find more information about DoTA at http://www.dota-allstars.com

Anyway, it's great to see a bunch of you are still hanging around the forums! Hope to see you all around.

EDIT: Established an IRC channel #vv-dota on irc.veeshanvault.org

I usually tend to play for a month or two periodically when I get bored of whatever shit I've been using to eat up spare time. It's probably been a year since I've touched DotA or WC3 at all, and I've never been particularly great, but I still know the fundamentals and a fair amount of characters' abilities.

Name's Mandalay, I suppose I'd be interested in playing some matches again. Let me know here, or I'll keep an eye out on battle.net.

I'm up for some DOTA. I'm like Drinsic in the fact that I tend to play periodically, but I've been playing some lately. Name on b.net is Taison, send me a message if you see me online.

Same as above. Was playing it regularly a few months back but recently stopped. If enough people will play, I could be encouraged to join.

haha Kwon, i remember seeing a video of that song on like youtube several months back. I can't believe it actually became so popular.

I'll probably setup a channel later that we could meet in on battle.net - something like #vv or #vv-dota. I will look and see what's available.

I've already been playing some dota with Taison. Drinsic, I'll add you to my friends list in case I catch you on there. Zamtuk, let me know your b.net name and I'll add you also.

Remember guys, anyone who wants to play is welcome.

i'll try to get on sometime soon. i think my name is empee if it still exists, haven't played in a while.

I like dota and tried to get into it but was kind of a noob and the faggots that i'd get into games with would start bitching at me after i died a couple times. i'd love to play with some people who weren't random bnet retards.

long time no see empee! Yeah, b.net kiddies get old real fast. Taison, Drinsic, and myself actually got to play a few matches, but we had to do 3v3 pickup and I think we had people leave mid game on us all 3 matches.

We sort of established a channel to meet on b.net: #vv-dota. Although, I'm thinking it may be better to establish a channel on IRC. Let me know what you all think.

You aren't kidding. I've come to accept that when you do public games like you will end up encountering 2 possible types of people: 1) The kind that are really good at DoTA and talk shit, and/or 2) The kind that suck horribly at DoTA and still talk shit by blaming other teammates for their shortcomings. Occasionally you'll find some decent players who aren't so lame, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Thus, my reason for trying to get our own group together. I'd love to see the day where I no longer have to deal with the battle.net kiddies who relentlessly talk shit then just leave mid-game because their mommy told them to get off the computer.

Lol Kwonryu, I've ran from a cop or two before at parties... but nothing that would deem me a felon :). It's my last name.

Also, in the DOTA music video- are those actual DOTA players? Ah, the highly glamorous life of DOTA players. High end clubs, parties... what a life!

Thats why you play it with older friends! :)

For example, VV could start a team and play together against all the 14-year old teams out there! :D

Good teamwork!

Yes, actual Dota-players, the swedish fella who made the song (Jonas) played DOTA so much with his friends that his mom began complaining.

But, after making some songs with Fruit Loops Studio in his bedroom, becoming famous with his songs and musical masterpieces(?) here in sweden (and abroad (!)), his mom stopped complaining.

His second album is called LOL <(^^,)>

His song "We're sittin' in Ventrilo, playing Dota" went to 6th spot on the swedish toplists, number 2 on the Finnish toplists, number 7 on the Norwegian and Danish and went to Top 9 in the Netherlands!

DOTA = Bringer of success! And musical masterpieces!

Ill try DOTA again but only with the VV-crew, also tired of the youngsters.

Which one is best tho, Dootums All-Stars or one of the later DOTA versions?

To be honest, I've always played the DoTA Allstars mod. You can grab the latest map at http://www.getdota.com and make sure you grab the 6.43b version. The game will actually be quite different if you haven't played it in awhile with the new heroes and items they have added. In my opinion, it has gotten a lot better since 6.27 or so, when I started playing.

I'm going setup an IRC channel of some sort for us to meet in. Of course, I must watch House first!

KWON!

If you're tired of the b.net kiddies, you should get mIRC or any other irc client, connect to quakenet.org and join #dotapickup.euro !
You simply type !add in the channel and once 10 people are added the IRC Bot will give you a gamename which you then join and play!

Usually a lot less trashtalking and whatnot in there, probably because you get banned from the channel for X amount of time if you trashtalk/leave a game etc.

Also a lot of people in that channel, so you never have to wait long before 10 people adds up either!

You may have to wait a while before you can get in to the channel though, I think they have to approve you or something first. You get approved by posting an application on their forum.
You also need an auth on quakenet to be able to join the channel.

If you decide to join in on that, I'll vouch for you!

I'm thinking that I should join you guys sometime, but I'm afraid of the high delay playing with people outside europe! 1-2 second delay on all your moves isn't that fun IMO!

I played on Azeroth with Nali and Crew and didn't have any noticable delay! It rocked!

I even managed to frag a pro such as Nali a few times! Wouldn't be possible with 1-2 sec delay on the moves i tell ya.

Especially since she stuns you as soon as she sees you!

I will play DOTA with you guys this weekend if you are running games! I haven't played DOTA since a very very old version, but I pretty commonly play TOB (once a night at least), so once i get the heroes/items I should be good to go.

That being said, do you guys have any interest in TOB, or know any IRC channels like the one sajko listed?, It is becoming increasingly hard to find a quality TOB game that doesn't include the same people. I would like a bit of variety.

Do you still meet in the IRC channel before playing DOTA, or do you just meet on bnet?

I've been gone the past several days with graduation ceremonies and family visiting for the weekend. I should be around more the following week. I'm glad to see we are getting so much feedback for dota! The official channel we've been meeting on is on the Azeroth realm in #vv-dota. I think most of us are usually on around or after 8pm EST.

Hope to see you all online!

Just thought I'd let people know about a fun game derived from DOTA: Pudge Wars. Two teams of pudges on either side of a small river, goal is to hook each other to death.

Not an amazing map but fun to waste some time with!
