For whatever reason, something about the "1 person fighting for their life" scenario has always been appealing to me.

I love Running Man.

I thought they were going to do an american version of Battle Royale? Is this it? Man what a lame translation then.

Battle Royale was sickly disturbing, but addicting as hell to watch.

Isn't this the same type of premise as Running Man?

Yeah, not a new idea per se (but what idea is entirely new and original these days?), it's a combo of Blood Royale and Running Man.

Letting the criminals slay each other on an Island.

Gotta be some good action-scenes tho! :D

Ultra Violet and Aeon Flux both had some really good action scenes PLUS hot chicks in skin tight outfits.

Didn't hide the fact that they were horribles movies.

it doesn't really look like the running man at all.

but that's not really an argument that I'm going to be very passionate about.

Depends on what you look for in a movie! :)

A movie with actionscenes consisting of total of 50% (or more) of the movie is good enough for me! :)

Running Man: Soldier is made a scapegoat and imprisoned/escaped/captured and essentially sentenced to death by being forced to compete in a televised 'gameshow'.

The Condemned: Black ops agent is captured and imprisoned and placed on death row... removed from prison and essentially sentenced to death by being forced to compete on a televised 'reality show'

The premises sound similar enough.

Sure, there are some "similarities", but you can find similarities in every movie if you watch for it and not regard each and every movie as a unique work of art! :)

Still, seems to be more weaponless hand-to-hand melee action in Condemned than in Battle Royale and Running Man!

Condemned Includes and Offends All

Reality TV takes an even uglier turn in "The Condemned," a big, sweaty, muscle-bound monster of an action thriller starring the wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin.

His Jack is one of 10 death row inmates let loose on a tiny island in the Pacific and told to fight to the finish. The last one standing will get freedom and a pile of cash. Viewers around the world watch the action live on a paid Web site.

Among the competitors are a bloodthirsty British special ops vet, a kickboxing Asian, a cat-like African woman and a South American couple determined to make it through the ordeal together. While the game is supposed to include representatives from all parts of the globe, an Arab killer is replaced by our man Jack.

When Jack refuses to reveal his true identity to the show's producers, they make up one for him as a Ku Klux Klan member who landed in an El Salvador prison after burning down a hospital for mentally ill children. In reality, he is an undercover operative for the U.S. government.
