MSNBC on Jack Thompson

Post by noel »

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18220228/

It's too long to paste, but I'm elated that SOMEONE is calling him (and to a lesser extent FOX news) onto the carpet for his bullshit. It's good reading if you have the time.

I'll probably email the writer to thank him.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

I love how Thompson says that Microsoft is responsible because they created Counter-Strike. Then he threatens to sue them because they are culpable. Sure, the so-called lawyer on the verge of being disbarred is going to go up against Micro$oft's army of lawyers.

*wipes a tear*

That man is such a fucking moron.

"It disgusts me," said Isaiah Triforce Johnson, a long-time gamer and founder of a New York-based gaming advocacy group that, in response to the accusations, is now planning what is the first ever gamer-driven peace rally.
That's not his real name, is it?

The Japan Times Online wrote:The first buyer, Isaiah Triforce Johnson, had been waiting in line outside the store for more than a week. He wore a Nintendo Power Glove, a wearable controller that came out in 1989, while shaking hands with Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime after buying the first Wii. Johnson said he had legally changed his middle name to a reference in Nintendo's "Zelda" game series.
Yes, yes it is.

"This is not rocket science. When a kid who has never killed anyone in his life goes on a rampage and looks like the Terminator, he's a video gamer," he told MSNBC.com.

Actually, it was to take Arnold out. But taking those 2 out would probably be the best bet.

I like how he never mentions the game the Army put out as a recruiting tool. Sue the government for making a free game that is exactely like Counter Strike. At the very least, call out the Army's online game in some way, shape, or form. I'd like to hear a goverment response to his accusations.

More in the Jack Thompson news.

http://www.totalgamerzone.com/story-372 ... t-Off.html
Thompson claims that since Wendy’s is promoting the Wii console itself with toys centered around friendly games like Wii Sports, they are promoting Manhunt.

As much as i dislike JT and would like to see him disbarred and publicly hang out in every media he ever been quoted in as a untrustworthy lunatic, he DO provide the occasional humour.
My favorite JT stunts so far are the ones where he tried his modest proposal offer and Penny Arcade paid a 10000$ check in his name to charity, signed "because Jack Thompson wouldnt", and his try to get Penny Arcade accused for raccetering, and they made the great Rocketeer comic of it :)

The original article wrote:"One thing that people often don't realize is that in the years since video game sales have really exploded, not only have youth violence rates decreased but violence rates in the U.S. have declined precipitously," she added.
I want to see Jack's response to this.

What does he need to say?

Don't get me wrong, I hate Jack Thompson as much as the next sane person, but there's no proof of causation there. With only that evidence, that's no different than saying the cancellation of Seinfeld led to a decrease in violence rates.

Having done research for some bullshit paper in school on the subject, the truth is that violent video games do increase aggression, but it's short lived and on such a miniscule scale that it has no business being on the news. The effects are no different than watching action-oriented television or listening to "aggressive" music. Unless these idiots would welcome the idea of an Equilibrium-esque dystopia, they should just accept the fact that people have emotions and fucking get over it.

As much as I would love for someone to kill Jack Thompson, it would only further his retarded agenda. Hopefully he'll choke on a chicken bone or something equally lame.
