Anyone been following this "World in Conflict" DX10 game to be released this fall?
Looks great graphically. If the game plays as good as it looks it's going to be awesome:
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/worldin ... ES_720.mov
It's Quicktime 720p (sizable movie file)
It's an alternate history setting where the Russians invade the U.S. instead of tear down the Berlin Wall. Red Dawn type scenario.
Here's some better movies of the gameplay:
ftp://ftp.vugames.com/pub/sierra/worldi ... 02_720.mov
big file in HD so give it some time. This is probably the best one but it doesn't stream so may take a little longer to load:

Re: World in Conflict DX10 Game
Nice game!
I posted link to beta in the beta sign up thread.
Going through the tutorial right now. The camera movement is outstanding. This game will kick your PC's ass. I'm running in 1400X900 with an E6600 OC'd to 3GHz. 2GB Ram and a 7800GT
It's a DX10 game so those with 8800's may want to check it out just for that. I didn't see a 1920X1200 option so I don't know if it's because of my 7800 or what. I assume it has to have 1920x1200 for worthy machines.
I don't know if the beta invites are unlimited. It says "first come, first serve, to at least grab a beta key (can get that without downloading the game demo)
The game has a massive feel to it but the camera and controls are well done. You can get extremely low to the ground and follow the action or go way up int he sky and zoom around. The way the unita are handles are great as well (no building them up like in Warcraft, you have a certain amount of resources and can deploy them, and get reinforcements at the battle goes on...but you don't have that lame ass click click click of warcraft type games where you build your units. Very nice. That always turned me off of RTS games. This is more fun and less unit building clickfest management.
A must see for RTSers and maybe a quick look for those wanting to check out their 8800's in Vista with a DX10 game.

My opinion hasn't changed, but I'm starting to doubt if my system can handle it.

Re: World in Conflict DX10 Game
Not a big fan of RTS these days although I did spend a lot of time with Dune all those years ago... But uh.. Anyway, got this just to see how well it runs on my system.

Re: World in Conflict DX10 Game
For me 1920x1200 is listed and it also supports dual monitors. I mainly just ran the benchmark thing under the graphics options to see what I'd get. With Very High detail I average a not-so-blazing 19 fps. Picks up to 25 at High. If I select Medium then it switches down to dx9 mode and gave me 52fps. Rather big jump imo!
Oh, and also the firsdt time I ran it things were rather jumpy. I closed the Vista sidebar and things were much smoother. Just something to keep in mind!

Re: World in Conflict DX10 Game
I just downloaded the demo and so far it's been a lot of fun. My system runs it just fine on medium detail. The camera has been fun to play with, but at it's core, it's just yet another RTS with really pretty graphics. It's a bit more focased on combat than other RTS games out there, but most of the better games have already gone this route (ie: Company of Heros, Dawn of War).
It will be interesting to see if StarCraft 2 will be altering it's "you need more vespian gas" formula in order to shift gameplay a bit more away from base building and instead inheret some of the new ideas from the modern RTS games. By the looks of the screenshots, I don't think so.
I'll be buying it on the 18th. I have several 100$ gift certificates from Best Buy that I need to spend.
Btw, there is rumor of this game coming to the 360.
