I was having intermittent DNS failures trying to connect over the last few days. Seems to have stabilized sometime yesterday tho.

Over the weekend? Are you sure they waited that long? I started seeing the problems on Friday, and they have continued through this morning.

They changed our nameservers on weds or thurs night? something like that - I found out about it saturday (actually read mail), and applied new nameservers then. Takes 1-2 days, usually a ipconfig /flushdns after a couple hours will fix it however.

yeah, I did the flush over the weekend. It was just funny that I was replying to a thread this morning when I got the error page again. I haven't run into the errors since making that post though.

Are they doing some sort of work again? I have been seeing issues yesterday and this morning. Seems to be a lot of double posts popping up as well!

The following has happened several times lately, including last night:

After posting a message, I'm getting stuck with a blank screen and the following url: http://www.veeshanvault.org/forums/posting.php. If I press back, I go back to the message I attempted to post as though I never submitted it. If I press post again, I end up back at http://www.veeshanvault.org/forums/posting.php. If I press reset on the blank http://www.veeshanvault.org/forums/posting.php page I'm asked if I want to resubmit POSTDATA standard browser message:
The page you are trying to view contains POSTDATA. If you resend the data, any action the form carried out (such as a search or online purchase) will be repeated. To resend the data, click OK. Otherwise click Cancel.
If I click ok, the post goes through but I get a double post. If I do nothing at posting.php, open a new tab and view the thread I'm posting in, there's no post. It's not until I refresh and OK that the post goes through, but unfortunately it's a double post.

This morning when I arrived at the site, I'd been logged out-- which was odd. I attempted to login and got stuck at login.php. I hit refresh, was asked if I wanted to resubmit postdata, accepted and was able to get in normally.

Sorry for the verbosity, but I'm hoping it's somewhat helpful.

When is VV's contract up with the current host?

$22.00 for an entire year from Dreamhost (200GB storage, 2TB/month xfer, fast speeds) can't be any worse than the reliability the current "dedicated" server has provided for this message board over the past year.

Might be worth a switch again. If someone's using the server for other activities, perhaps just moving the phpBB part to a better server would work and let the group that uses it for voice chat or whatever can't be done on without a dedicated server deal with that part. I can host an extra domain and test it if needed on Dreamhost to see how it handles.

I'm having similar issues again for the last week or so.

Load the Vault, it times out. Hit refresh and it instantly loads, shows me online, but I'm not logged in. Log in and all posts are marked as read. Anytime I make a post or post a reply, it gives unspecified post type errors, back up and hit submit again and it works. Load times are pretty long, and sometimes I'm completely unable to load the Vault at all (last day or two).

Just fyi, really. Not sure if everyone is experiencing the same problems or if it's just a few of us.

I've seen it as well. I am guessing that it is the same for most of us based on the number of posts that take place between the times I am able to view the site.

could have bumped the more recent post you whore anii's! ;P

anyhow it appears to be the hardware side of thing - it was getting progressively worse from yesterday through today (I'm sure you noticed long load times, etc).

We could find no bad processes, and cpu wait times were pegging at 100 with no disk i/o this time - as far as I can tell (I'll need to confirm with host) they've moved us to a different box, or replaced hardware, as that's the last thing we talked about. The site seems snappy so hopefully that's our fix - will keep you updated with any changes.

I cannot refute the claim that I am a whore. I wasn't aware of a more recent thread than this. (It was easy to recall because I made it :p)

Thanks for the update though.

Same as Truant. Plus I hate IE 7 saying, "Hi, can't find the site. You suck. Kthxbye."

I hope it stays stable. I felt abandoned, much like a young cub yearning to suckle at the teat of its mother who, while out looking for food, was shot by a hunter.

Yeah - I don't know wtf is going on at this point. The box shows an uptime of over 2 days, when I last rebooted. And again, throughout the day it's bogging down, and in the evening (5ish PST), it seems to get real real snappy again.

The update I received this morning says "will get something set up to do process accounting, to look back in time to see what was going on".

Again, will update as I receive anything worth passing on... =/
