it was like watching a renaissance painting come to life.. the battle scenes were epic and the stop-scene action sequences within those battle scenes were totally fantastic and well done..
reminded me a bit of "gladiator" at times (which is not a bad thing) but overall the cinematography was really unique and of course amazing.. blood 4tw!
no really, I'm not a "girly" girl but I'm not too savvy to violence.. this film was an exception just because of how they made it so visually appealing throughout the majority of it -- k I'll stop, go see it ;p
p.s. I didn't have to look away once for this one but pan's labyrinth had me eye-averting on a few scenes, just my opinion on the gore-factor (oh and everyone should see pan's too)

Dear god this film was awful, dreadful, rubbish ><
It was like a 2 hour music video, or advert. or perhaps some middling FMV from an RPG.
It's a damn shame. The guys looked the part. It had some decent set pieces. But it utterly failed to capture any of the emotions of the story. The spartans were presented as a bunch of arrogant maniacs. WTF was with the alien persians?? Why did I not care about anyone? Where was the determination? Commitment? Anger? Despair? At first I was worried the director was spending too much time recreating images from the graphic novel but when I saw his "original touches" I prayed he'd get back to scene-copying
I had such high hoped for this film but it just lurched from "15 guys in an obvious green-screen set" to "ridiculously overblown bombast" every 5 seconds. I love a good cheesy movie but this actually took itself seriously which made the cheese cringe-making rather than amusing.
Avoid this mess.

I loved it. It was exactly what I was looking for: an action movie with some humorous lines, aesthetically appealing sets and characters, and an overall theme of overcoming adversity through teamwork and discipline that I would want to take my team to see if I were a high school football coach. Plus there were tons of blood, limbs and heads being cut off, and some nudity.
It wasn't Citizen Kane, but then again I wasn't really looking to see Citizen Kane. If I want to stimulate my intellect I'll read a book. If I want a couple hours of getting my blood going and saying "oh hell yeah!" (quietly as to not disrupt others!), I'll go see 300 again. And I'm definitely going to see 300 again.

We've been sharing our culture with you all day!
"There is at least as much need to curb the cruel greed and arrogance of part of the world of capital, to curb the cruel greed and violence of part of the world of labor, as to check a cruel and unhealthy militarism in international relationships." -Theodore Roosevelt
I don't want historical accuracy I want one of 2 things:Winnow wrote:This movie has nothing to do with history except for some historical names being used in it.
If you want historical accuracy, watch History of the World, Part 1
1) Some semblance of decent film-making skills
2) High-calorie popcorn fun.
This is neither. It's just bad minus one or two good lines and shots.
edit: If you go again, try listening to the closing monologue without snickering. Also, I expected if they showed Leonidas brushing his teeth, thunderbolt sound effects would adorn his every move. God knows how they got through the sex scenes without bullet-time and tsunami-volume SSCCHHHWWWOOOOSH-THWAK type noises.

This film was not good. It did not have nearly enough slow-mo sequences or loud chanting music.
No really, I don't understand how so many people can say such great things about this movie. My girlfriend and I were laughing during half of our time in the theater and rolling our eyes for the rest. That said, we ended up leaving after the first 30 minutes and saw Zodiac. Now THAT was a good movie all around! So good that even though she could only understand about 50% of the dialog(she's a Spaniard), she loved it. Great cinematography, pacing, acting, music, intrigue, etc.

So you are judging a 2 hour movie by the first 30 minutes?? It just seems to me like people look for more in a movie than it promises to be - a bloody action movie - not a historically accurate recreation of the battle.Keverian FireCry wrote:This film was not good. I saw it on friday. My only comment is that i'll be pissing pure testosterone for at least a few weeks now.
I've heard a bunch of reviews said that it was over the top with the gore and violence. Anybody who thinks that needs to take their little man bag, grab a granola bar, and go find a closet, as a Canadian movie critic put it in one review. (Sorry - no linkage

lolTehran condemns "anti-Iranian" movie 300
Iran on Monday strongly condemned the US film company Warner Bros. over the allegedly "anti-Iranian" blockbuster film 300. Javad Shamqadri, art advisor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, told Fars news agency that the film was an insult to Persian culture and in line with the American "psychological war" against Iran.
Most of the general American population had no clue that Iran was by and large old world Persia. Now they do...not because of the movie but because of Iran bitching about it.

Same shit as in the US with the Christian groups protesting the Davinci Code... In all seriousness, (with regard to pop culture and entertainment) the muslims need to get over themselves.Winnow wrote:lolTehran condemns "anti-Iranian" movie 300

Hehe, I liked this quote at that link from Kwon:
"You know that every bead of sweat falling off your head, every weight you've pumped -- the history of that is all in your eyes," says Gerard Butler, who played King Leonidas. "That was a great thing, to put on that cape and put on that helmet, and not have to think, Shit, I should have trained more. Instead, I was standing there feeling like a lion."

300 is one of the best movies in 2007 for testoboost.
Lisa Nova understands <--- Tonight we dine in Hell, This is Sparta et al and so forth
Few years ago, we had Achilles expressions
"IMMORTALITY, TAKE IT! IT'S YOURS!" and "Now you know who you're fighting!"
2007 though, we have the already classic lines "This is Sparta!" and "Tonight we dine in hell!"
as well as
"Immortals, we put their name to the test!"
PÖMP!

Re: 300
Watched this last night, can't put my finger on exactly why but I didn't really care for it. I'm not entirely sure why, all the pieces were there. I should have loved the movie but instead was bored throughout most of it. It (somehow) missed the mark.
