Crackdown
Crackdown released today for the 360. It's the first release that has me wishing I owned a 360. I love the idea of the sandbox city environment and increasing abilities. If it had an RPG-style skill tree with weapon and armor upgrades I might have had to run out and buy a 360.
The reviews mention a lack of any real storyline, which is disappointing. They also say it's rather repetitive. But I'm still very interested in it.
Does anyone have it? What do you think?

Played the demo a bit and it seemed cool - there was also a post not too long ago here with some videos showing examples of the crazy shit you can do when you raise your skills up.
I have the game reserved and will be picking it up after I leave work tonight - will post after I have had a chance to play it a bit.

So I played it a bit more last night then I did on the demo.
I had a lot of fun with it, all the different skills you can raise up are cool, and my jumping ability is already crazy. Controls are good, achievements are fun and reasonable. The only thing I can say will possibly be bad about it is a friend of mine beat it last night (well, early this morning) after playing it for about 15 hours.

I have played Crackdown quite a bit now and like it a lot.
I really like how it is what GTA always claims to be, but never really is. In Crackdown, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. There is no set order to beat down the gangs or their bosses in, you can go about it any way you want.
I have honestly had a ton of fun just fucking around, getting my agility up and climbing skyscrapers, etc.
Only complaint I really have - I would like to go up against some other crazy genetically enhanced dude like me that can jump skyscrapers, but from what I understand you never do- so the enemies and the way you fight them get a bit repetitive.

Having a blast playing this. Probably the most fun I've had playing a sandbox game in quite some time.
You guys try climbing the agency tower yet? I'm 3 stars in agility and I was able to do it.
Street races are fun, rooftop races are more fun.
Piling explosives and blowing shit up is great.
Explosives is the only ability I have no stars in yet. Need to use grenades and explosives more.
Now I need to stop playing it at a reasonable hour and get more sleep.

I have played it quite a bit too, I have got to four stars in everything, and have maxed out 2 of the 5 (agi and str).Animalor wrote:Having a blast playing this. Probably the most fun I've had playing a sandbox game in quite some time.

The agency tower is a lot of fun to climb, have you tried the rooftop races on the agency tower? They are quite a challenge actually!
The one achievement I am having a hard time getting (and its starting to frustrate me) is the shot putter achievement. I have tried throwing all different varieties of things from building tops onto the ground and into the water (I read on a forum somewhere that if you throw stuff into the water, you will get it because the stuff sinks, but nothing i have thrown into the water sinks.) So I am not sure what else to do.

Climbing to the top of the Agency tower was frustrating me at one spot, but I finally noticed that there was a walkway I could jump up and grab that I didn't notice sooner.
The easy way to raise explosives is to use a rocket launcher from one of the safe house rooftops in the asian gang area. There are a lot of rooftops around them that will spawn gang members, and you can rack in the skill points by taking those out before you go running around. Also, if you get the message that the gang is starting to send people for you, take to a roof with a good view of the roadway, and just rain rockets down on their cars when they get close together. The hit you will take from civilian deaths is outpaced by the gain from the gang kills. Jump when you do it for some extra agility too
I don't have the shotput achievement yet. What is required on it?

I tried it myself off the roof of the bank and didn't manage to score that one either. I don't have many achievements to my name yet as I haven't really made any type of effort to score them.
I find that for the long races, the agency supercar is awesome because whenever you collide with other vehicules, you just flip them over and you keep going realtively unbothered.
I did one in Los Muerte where I had the Peacekeepers after me as well as the gangbangers cause I killed too many civilians. Managed to finish the race successfully too.

Which skill are you using the most?
For me driving took the early lead but Strength and Agility caught up pretty quickly with Shooting and Explosives beinging up the rear.
I think tonight I'm gonna make a huge stack of explosives at the Los Muerte station and try to get the 100 explosive objects in 60 seconds achievement.
Should be fun.

I don't think that I have made it to the top of his tower, the only way to get to the top is from the inside, right? I had a feeling that would be the case, and I would have to wait now because he is like the last guy I have to beat and I want to get other achievements before I beat the game !Boogahz wrote:Just got The Shot Putter achievement easy...Go to the top of Wang's Tower, and grab a chair out of the room. Go to the edge of that rooftop, jump and toss the chair

Go ahead and beat him to get the achievement. That is the building you have to ride the elevator up to the top portion as you mentioned. Once you beat all of the bosses, you can save the game and start it up again with Crimes on. This lets you run around the city to collect things you might have missed and kill more thugs. The only things that won't be there are bosses and the spawns inside their buildings. If you don't save and start again with the "Crimes on" setting, you will just be running around town with civilians and police. That's actually handy for doing the races (rooftop and driving).Funkmasterr wrote:I don't think that I have made it to the top of his tower, the only way to get to the top is from the inside, right? This option will be available by scrolling right on the "solo play" menu option. It will be something like "start solo play - crimes off" and "start solo play - crimes on."
