Burning MPEG to DVD?

Anyone have any experience burning MPEG to DVD? Something was wrong with my DVR and it erased everything on it, so I dl'ed a hdtv show that I missed last week and I'm just trying to guarantee that I can watch it on my tv. The newsgroup posting called it 720p, AC3 MPEG2. I just want to be able to play it in my DVD player.

Suggestions?

(alternatively I'll try to just stream it with TVersity if I can get that working, but I want to make sure I can watch it somehow)

I believe you should be able to burn that straight to a DVD if you have a DVD authoring program. Standard DVD format is mpeg2.

if that doesn't work, which is should, AfterDawn.com is where I go for all my DVD burning questions/conversions, et al. They have a lot of converting software as well, just in case that video you are downloading is actually Divx or something too.

If you just burn MPEG2 to a DVD, do you need to have a menu or anything on there? Or will DVD players just start playing it?

You can add menus with some programs. But, if you just put files on the disk, some players will just play them, and the "next" button will signify to play the next file. Some players won't play them without a menu. YMMV.

edit: Thinking more on this, chances are it won't work on your player. You have to author the DVD to get it to play in a player reliably. There are some programs out there that do that for you, Nero is one of them if you have it.

If you have Nero, just open the file(s) in Nero, and go right to dvd authoring and burn and go play it. It should be that easy.
