Command and Conquer 3 Demo

Post by Winnow »

Downloaded this and played the tutorial. It's eleventybillion times better than Supreme Commander. It looks like you can begin a campaign and skirmish in the demo as well.

Give it a try.

Not sure where it is on the net but search for C&C and you'll find it on in the newsgroups in alt.binaries.nl

Can try here:

Winn

Why is it better than Supreme Commander?

Pros / Cons?

What has CC3 that Supreme commander doesn't etc?

It has a lot more character to it. The real life videos help but that's not what I'm talking about. The atmosphere, buildings, vehicles and troops all have a more recognizable look to them. The GDI forces have a little more history to them as well which makes it more interesting than the kinda of bland, uncaring feeling I get looking at the units in Supreme Commander

The presentation and tutorial are better in C&C 3.

I've been a fan of C&C since the original so I may be biased but I'd recommend checking out the demo at least if you like RTS games.

My buddy and I were discussing this game today. We both agreed that this entire franchise died after the original Red Alert, but we both kind of wondered if this game was worth it. I've bought every C&C game up until this one and I refuse to even give it a try since all they do is fuck it up. I guess what I am asking is, is this game even comparable to the first two? If not in every way (sorry, sequels should be almost better in every way) then in what way?

The original C&C was the best. So much fun and played that over a phone modem.

It has the same feel as the original. Troops can take cover in buildings for added protection. That's kinda cool.

C&C moves at a pace that isn't overwhelming. Feels more like using strategy tham zerg tactics.

If you like FMV cutscenes and units that go "rollin out!" when you tell them to move, I could see where you might like this more than supreme commander. if you actually enjoy tactics and strategy in your real time strategy games, there really isn't any comparison.

15 years later and my harvesters will still make a b-line through the enemy base when I run out of tiberium on my side.

Maybe you should take some lessons from Al Gore and learn to control your energy intake!

Gee, limited resources...this game sucks! I can't control my units!

I thought Generals was a lot of fun with lots of replayability. It's actually still installed on my PC. I'll buy it for sure because I'm also a fan of the series.

Does it hold a flame to the likes of Dawn of War or Company of Heroes? Those "next gen" RTS games will be pretty hard to top.

Well, I played the demo and it is exactely like all the other Tiberium C&C games, with the same units and special end game weapons.

Other than new, and quite impressive graphics, I might as well be playing the last several incarnations of the game.

If it ain't broke, don't bother fixing it I guess.

Yes, I'll be buying it anyway. It was actually nice playing an old school RTS after so many of the new innovations introduced in the last several years. This game is as simple as it gets, with no real learning curve. It's a comic book compared to the latest RTS novels of strategy and depth.

It's nice to just play a simpler game once in awhile, and I guess this latest C&C will fill that niche.

Tried it and it was better than i first thought.

I thought Supreme Commander had it due to having three factions but i got mistaken there as well it seems!

CC3 got more factions than normally, the Aliens look really good and creepy

Play as Nod in the demo! (beside taking over Nod buildings with your engineer)

There's a way to select Nod as the player's army in a skirmish! Open the army dropdown menu, click in it one time, then press the 'N' key (referring to Nod), and you will have selected Nod as the army to play with.
Similarly, you can select GDI for the AI player ('G'...)
And you can even change the AI playing style; again, press 'G' for Guerilla, for instance, or 'T' for Turtler.

I'm kinda blowing through the single player so far in this game.

On the plus side, I'm enjoying this game far more than I anticipated. The graphics are nice, the storyline is decent, and the FMV cutscenes are horrible (in a good way).

GDI troop transports seem a bit overpowered atm, but I've yet to play the NOD campaign.

I really look forward to playing it all the way through.

Picked this up over the weekend and really liking it. I have only played through the GDI campaign through a few of the Scrin invasion missions so far. One question I have is about the cutscenes, what the heck is up with the voice track being about 5-10 seconds ahead of the video?

*edit* nevermind, I figured out that increasing the resolution caused no problems during play, but it screwed with the cutscenes ><

Most top players play Nod, and not just for hand rushes. They are hard to use though as they don't tech up as nicely as GDI in the brute force department.

Upgraded venoms are sick though, and with the EMP blast on the scout buggy I can kill an equal number of mammoth tanks with Nod suicide bombers guys (I think they are called fanatics).

Ultimately Nod is the best side to play if you are good at Starcraft and are used to clicking on lots of unique powers, where GDI and Scrin are more point and click and watch them kill everything units.

Although GDI has the ability to destroy anything they want on the map regardless of defenses with phoenix bombers and their special power.

Not really. I think Nod is more powerful than GDI if you're a good player though.
