The Black Donnely's
What a great start to this series. If you haven't seen NBC in past month (or tivo heroes and skip commercials) it's a show about 4 irish brothers living in NYC. They get involved with the mob (so to speak) and trouble ensues. Oh yeah, it's written by Paul Haggis (Crash/Million Dollar Baby/et al). Surprisingly gritty for a network show, but well worth the watch.
Fuck Michigan!

That's funny, one of the first lines in the show was something along the lines of "Everyone thinks that all Irish people do is get drunk and fight, after a while it makes you so mad that all you want to do is get drunk and get into a fight."kyoukan wrote:have the irish not suffered enough from your stereotypes?!?!

No, it was a couple years ago in an entirely unrelated thread. I wonder where I got that notion?
I totally would have met up with you at the OSU-Michigan game if I'd known you weren't mexican...
kidding, the logistics just didn't work out. and you are a drunk-ass osu fan and blood probably would have been spilled. but mostly the first one

Saw the commercial while struggling to get the piece of shit DVR from comcast to fast forward. What is with the abercrombie and fitch emo-hair on those dudes? That is most certainly NOT FUCKING IRISH, unless they are in some kind of metro-club/fraternity.
Plot seems alright but puleeeze hairmet!!1

Meh, it's Paul Haggis so it's derivative recycled crap mostly. I liked the pilot okay but I have a really really bad feeling about this show. Not really any likable characters (and God I want to punch the narrator so hard) and hello stereotype brawl at a wake?
Not to mention it replaced Studio 60, fucking bullshit.

It's my understanding that Studio 60 had a scheduled hiatus coming up anyway, and with the break to new episodes of Heroes starting this week, they wanted to get a couple episodes of Donnely's to ride in Heroes' wake before that. All Donnely's did was move 60's break up a week.Drolgin Steingrinder wrote:Not to mention it replaced Studio 60, fucking bullshit.

I just think it's a shame that it feels like NBC didn't give S60 enough of a chance. West Wing and SportsNight both needed 3/4 of a season to get into a stride (and it felt like S60 was getting there), and now they're all but yanking the carpet away under them.
Instead they should've changed S60 to a slot that wasn't opposite Heroes and run Black Donnellys there instead. I understand that Irish Mob has a better chance of stealing viewers from Superheroes than Smart Comedy Writers do, but this just feels...meh.

I like S60 well enough, though I will admit that sometimes it falls off my tivo before i catch every episode. Most of my knowledge on the subject comes from this site who seem to enjoy poking fun at the show and Aaron Sorkin. YMMV
More S60 relevance here.

I have been watching this every week and am still liking it. I am getting sick of Jimmy as well, but I think he will probably get killed before too long so it shouldn't be too painful.
I also don't like the Italian dude that has been behind everything and is trying to work his way to the top - but I also think he will probably get killed.
I was thinking about how this series might end up. I think that once the story catches up to the point in time the guy telling the story in jail is at- all of the Donnelly brothers will be dead.. or maybe just one will be alive.

Well no big loss as far as I'm concerned. And it was only seven or so episodes. I was going to stop watching it anyway. It was just a ridiculous program. However, it sure beat any sort of shitty reality TV program that would take its place. When will retards stop watching those lame shows so they'll stop making more.
