I lost my dog of 14 years back in early October. A few months passed - it was rough not having him around every day. He was a great dog - was there through the birth of my daughter - a divorce - remarriage - birth of my second daughter. He lived a good, long life and will always be missed.
In mid December I started looking for a dog again. My dearly departed dog was named Spock - a Jack Russell Terrier. I wanted to go with something bigger this time. My qualifications for a dog were:
Good with children
Even tempered
Moderate to high activity level
Easy to groom
Have a long snout (I like dogs with a longer muzzle as opposed to pug faced dogs - personal aesthetic preference)
After much searching and discussions with various breeders, I chose the Ibizan Hound.
So this Saturday I get to go cross country to pick up my dog. He has a long AKC champion name that I will never use. I chose the name -
Starbuck
Not after the coffee but after the Sci-Fi series. I figured it suited him and I am keeping tradition alive.
Here is a picture of Starbuck at 10.5 weeks (taken last week) He is on the left:
His ears will eventually stand straight up on their own - they stay that way for life.
Here is a picture of his mother -
Here is a picture of his father -
They are sighthounds - very sleek and agile. They can hit 40 mph from three strides. They can jump over 6 ft. from a stand still. They stand about 27" tall at the withers (shoulders) and weigh between 50-70 lbs. with the occasional 80+ lb dog.
The person I am purchasing him from said Starbuck is on the larger side and he already weighs 30 lbs. at 11 weeks.
So, do we have any other dog lovers? I know we have cat lovers here (I have one myself). If so, what kind of dog do you have and what are their names?
Best regards,
Moon
