CD/DVD Drive mechanical issue

Post by Venti »

In my PC, I have a DVD R/W drive. I can browse that drive, use the CD thats currently in there, so from that standpoint, it works fine.

The trouble is, that when you push the eject button, there sounds like something mechanical that is preventing the drive from opening. I've tried to push a paperclip in the hole at the front of the drive but can not feel a button, detent or anything, just pressing in against something that does not feel moveable.

I don't mind replacing the drive, but would really like the CD thats stuck.

Any thoughts, other than a complete disassembly of the drive once removed?

Thanks

If you don't mind breaking it, I'm sure you could wedge a knife edge or flathead screwdriver into the front and pry it open.

When you use the paperclip, are you also trying to pull the door open? That's what I have always had to do. Most of the time, that drive was dead anyhow, so pulling it with the paperclip inserted could not do more harm anyhow.
