PC gone wild...

Post by masteen »

It's No Name-calling Week

When did kids get so thin skinned? Doesn't this infringe on free speech, or is that only protected when it doesn't bother anyone?

I dunno, I got called a lot of names growing up, particularly in grade school. I responded by feeding their flaws back to them. Sometimes, I got into fights, but I never started them. Isn't learning how to handle asshole part of growing up?

I would ask.. when did parents get so naive?

somewhere between the end of corporal punishment and D.A.R.E., methinks.

check out the 2006 contest winners

1st place was obviously done by a parent. I'd take that kid's 1st place ribbon and rip it up in front of his face. CHEATERS NEVER PROSPER, TIMMY

roofles at the 2nd place story. The storyteller is manipulated to call someone a name. She realizes the error of her ways and, as a result, is called names. In the end, it ends up being okay because the storyteller wishes the name-caller TO DIE. Instead of dying, she just ends up tripping in public... resulting in her being CALLED NAMES. THE END
I TOLD YOU ID SHOOT! BUT YOU DIDNT BELIEVE ME! WHY DIDNT YOU BELIEVE ME?

Whoa!!! It's no name calling week man, you can't say that! It might hurt someone's fragile feelings. You're making my heart bleed now! See what happens when you call people names.
I'm going to live forever or die trying

Kids need to play tag. They need to call each other names. They need to get bumps and bruises and cuts on the elbows and knees. They need to get in the mud and play. They need to play in the rain.

Kids need to be kids.

We should boycott the products of the sponsors of this event!
No Name-Calling Week 2007 is made possible, in large part, by a generous grant from Cisco Systems.
Ok turn off the internet for the week!

Umm...

Yes, the website and the initiative go overboard. But is it really such a bad thing to discourage kids from bullying other kids? Or to show a kid that actions which he finds funny can have significant negative effects on other kids?

I mean, if little Johnny's mom sues little Timmy's mom because Timmy called Johnny a poophead, that's too far. But is encouraging kids not to act like dicks such a bad idea?

Learning to live with assholes is a part of growing up. Learning not to be an asshole is another part of growing up. Both lessons need to be taught...

If I hear about my kid bullying others around, I'll sit them down and watch some camera footage from Columbine. The lesson being that if you push someone around and make fun of them, they may come back and shoot you in the fucking face. It's a whole other world out there now, and messed up kids aren't likely to play the part of victim anymore without doing something about it.
