Star Trek: Nemesis

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

Saw it today with Britt, and I really loved it.

What did everyone else think?

I have always liked and watched star trek. Just got back from Nemesis....Nothing specifically grabbed me or made it memorable for me... Actually I think I spent more time falling into large holes in the plot.

Movie sucked. The only redeeming feature about it was the villain. Too many subplots and undeveloped themes.

i enjoyed it, though i can see OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of areas in which people would be critical of it. overall it was worth what i paid to see it on a nice, big scren. and yes the villains owned

It is a movie of 2's, and an even flick. One pairing of people together, a pair of androids, a pair of captains, a pair of number 1's, a pair of starships, a pair of warbirds. Then the last pair to form ( warbirds) are destroyed, then so on in reverse order until only one pair is left.

Someone got way too far into the even movies are good concept.

I thought Nemesis was the best Star Trek film to date to date (and I have watch ST:TWOK countless times). I'll be glad to discuss it further when enough time has passed that discussing it would not give anything away.

Posted my thoughts in the movie forum. Didn't want to drop any spoilers here.

did they save the universe by reversing polarity on the shields and generating an anti-proton stream through it to disrupt the enemy's gravitron flux emitters????????????/

Hehe. Techno-babble was annoying in TNG, though never as bad as it became on later series. That's partially what made Voyager so unwatchable -- nothing interesting, and every plot's dilemma was solved with pseudo-scientific jargon. I'm sorry, but I'd almost rather have the captain save the day by blasting (or kicking) the shit out of the enemy than by remodulating the metaphasic tachyon pulse array.

---------
Edit: I have yet to see Nemesis, but I am very disappointed in Paramount's marketing department. Whose brilliant decision was it to open Nemesis 1 week before the 800-pound gorilla that is LoTR: TTT? Nemesis's box office take will all but drop off the charts come December 18th. Maybe I'm just sentimental, but I'd really have liked the 'final' TNG movie to go out with a respectable box office bang. At the moment, that's seeming very unlikely. :(

The movie was good. It would have been better if I was stoned.

I'm concerned that the only favorable reviews I have seen are on this msg board. I'll wait for it on HBO.

The opinions here are likely to me more in step with your own than some tosspot film critic who never gives SF movies a fair review anyway cos they think they are 'hokum'.

The movie is a good see but if you are skeptical, go to a matinee. Definitly worth the cost of a matinee.

A slashdot poster said it best when responding to the poll of which ST flick was the best

"My favorite one was the one that starts where the Enterprise starts a mission near the Neutral Zone. Then some violent, genetically created nut manages to obtain a starship and then goes after the Captain on a personal vendetta. He and his lackeys then obtain a superweapon that is capable of destroying all life on a planet, and chase the Enterprise until they catch it, whereby a giant battle occurs inside a nebula. The Enterprise can't find the arch enemy's vessel. The Captain, however, knows the arch enemy better than he knows himself, and manages to use that which he overlooks against him. To stave off defeat, the arch enemy fires the superweapon at the Enterprise! But it takes like 8 minutes to actually go off, in which time a certain logical crewmember manages to save the day while sacrificing himself. But don't worry -- he's backed up.

This is the plotline for both Wrath of Khan and Nemesis: which one should I vote for? "

i liked it. the best part was that the evil guy had an attack named after himself. that's like wearing your own band's shirt.
