I'm leaving work early to head down to Columbus, so I'm probably done with my pro-Michigan propaganda.
Good luck Ohio State, hope it's a great game and that Michigan wins. And that you don't burn your city down after, regardless of the outcome.
GO BLUE!

Which rivalry are you talking about? UF/FSU, UF/UT, or Florida/Georgia?Sylvus wrote:And because I like to back up my statements with facts rather than simply vitriol: Since 1968 (38 years), one of the two teams in this matchup has been ranked in the top five 28 different times. There were 9 times when both teams have been in the top 5. And please remember that this is always the last game of the year for both teams, it's not like they're coming into it with some bogus preseason rankings. How does your rivalry compare?
I bet you'd have to go back a long fucking time to find any game where neither team in any of those 3 games was ranked. Even on a very down year, with a frosh QB, Georgia was still ranked. FSU is the only slacker for a change.

Fascinating. Michigan / Ohio State already rocketed up that poll, and I don't think it was publicized at all.
I actually found it while digging around the ESPN website for a poll that I'd just seen on TV (which is the better rivalry, MI/OSU football or UNC/Duke basketball?) which I planned to post here (by the way, it looked like MI/OSU won the popular vote and UNC/Duke won the electoral vote). I'm pretty shocked that it changed this drastically. The vote totals hadn't even doubled from the first time I saw it, and the margin between Fla/Ga and MI/OSU went from 50/20 to MI/OSU leading.

I was really glad to be an impartial observer in this game... What a great game, and what fantastic teams. I think Michigan's defense really stepped up in this game to hold OSU as close as they did. The only bad part about the game was that one of the teams had to eventually lose.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

As part of the rivalry thats the kind of game you look for.
Well played by both teams. No stupid game changing calls.
I was suprised the OSU offense moved as well as it did, especially on the ground. But I was equally suprised the Henne threw as well as he did on the OSU defense.
I was not a fan of any chance of rematch on Jan 8th but after seeing that game it's hard to believe them not being the best two teams in the nation.
Grats to UM on a well played game, but bigger grats to OSU and it's trip to Arizona.

Depends, their season (unlike ours) isn't over. Florida won convincingly today, and USC beat Cal. Notre Dame could still play spoiler for USC, but Florida State could do the same for Florida (however unlikely...).
Cincinatti (!) ended discussion of Rutgers.
I'm curious how far in the polls Michigan will drop for it's one loss. The BCS computers had them ranked #1 earlier this week and they put up good stats today. I still think they're a solid #2, but the voters will probably place them #4 after Florida and USC. If they go lower than Notre Dame I cry foul.

While both teams looked good today, I would not be for a rematch. The way I see it is that Michigan had their chance today. While they came close, they could not beat Ohio State. Not allowing another team that is ranked highly the chance to play them would lessen the championship if OSU beat Michigan again.
*edit* Just felt the need to add that I am super-tired, and I don't know how much sense that made.

I concur, Boogahz.
I love OSU/Michigan games and as much as I feel Michigan was/is the #2 team, I also feel that somone else should get a chance to play "King of the Hill" and right now that someone is probably Florida or USC *.
Michigan had thier chance to play for all the marbles and came up short. Besides, I'd love to watch them represent the Big 10 in the Rose Bowl. I respect the team and cheer for them when they aren't playing Ohio State.

I'm not really sure why I'd have to eat crow, I'm not humiliated at all by the loss today. While we were outgained by a phenomenal offense, any one of about three plays (one of the 6 people that hit Wells on that long run actually tackling him, Crable not leading with his helmet on that roughing the passer play, another one I can't think of right now) happening differently and Michigan wins.
I never said it'd be anything other than a close game, and there isn't a person in the world who would have predicted 80 points being scored. The truth is that it was a great game, and the only reason I'd support a rematch is because I'd like to see it played on neutral ground. Going in to the horseshoe and taking the game down to the wire and beating the spread... I think the two teams are the best in the country and it's scary how simlar they are.
The fans in Columbus were MUCH better this time than any previous time I've been down there. I think it was probabaly a combination of them being worried that they could lose the game, the campaign by the school to try and civilize the fans, and Bo's death. Whatever it was, it was much more pleasant this time than any other. That said, there were still plenty of douchebags. The assholes behind us at the game were completely obnoxious, when they left their seats at halftime, at least 6 different Ohio State fans apologized to my friend and I about them. Had a few people being pretty disrespectful with the Bo situation "Hey, how's Bo doing!!"
Congrats Buckeyes, that was a great game and everything I expected out of it. Regardless of who you end up playing in the National Championship, good luck to you.

Yes, Sylvus it was indeed a great game and indeed most games have plays and penalties that if called and played differently would result in a different outcome. When you invent the time machine you can go back and change history, but if it helps you sleep better at night...
I'm glad the fans didn't ruin your watching your team lose this time. Anyway, aren't you flying the wrong avatar? I only logged on to see your buckeye fly.

Don't make me dig up the quotes about how we were going to not only lose to Michigan but to one or more other teams on the way. Not only did you claim the Buckeyes couldn't defeat your team, but you doubted we could beat out the rabble in between.Sylvus wrote:I'm not really sure why I'd have to eat crow...

I can't see Zamtuk's avatar but I can see Sylvus' OSU avatar.
Good game. I was going to do some photoshopping and modify the crying Oklahoma kid to be a crying OSU or Michigan kid pending the outcome but have decided not to!
I think one of the announcers had it right in that everyone wins when there's a great matchup on TV. (corny but true)
I saw one person get slammed to the ground by security at the end of the game before they figured out there was no way they were going to stop the fans from rushing the field. It looked like the field rush and packed center was on the verge of being unsafe but I guess it turned out ok.
Looks like OSU vs USC for the National Title.
Is there any site that's dynamic and has a way to check win/loss history between two teams over the years? I know ASU is 1-0 vs Michigan but that's because the 1987 Rose bowl is the only game I know of. Set me straight Sylvus!

Ohio State's offense might be as good as the talking heads think. Michigan's defense isn't.
But let them continue the circle jerk if they want. The only way a rematch will happen is if USC, Ark, and Florida all lose.
I don't see the Trojans dumping one to ND or UCLA, but then again they did lose to Oregon St, so we'll see.
The Gators have a good shot to beat FSU, and I think we have the edge on Arky as well, but if the hogs can beat LSU and us to cap their season, they will have pulled off one of the most amazing turnarounds I've ever seen.

So much for no one outside of the midwest giving a shit.
Top-ranked Ohio State's victory over No. 2 Michigan drew the biggest television audience for any regular-season game in 13 years.
ABC's broadcast pulled in a 13.4 rating, which translates to 14.96 million households and 21.77 million viewers. That's the biggest audience and rating for a regular-season college football network telecast since Florida State at Notre Dame on Nov. 13, 1993.
The figures for Saturday's game are according to Nielsen Media Research.
This was the second time this season ABC has televised a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. On Sept. 9, Ohio State beat second-ranked Texas. That game averaged an 8.2 rating, and was seen in 9.1 million households.

Eh, that's like 100th on the list of things I care about. The Lions suck, it's been hard for me to even watch them since Barry retired. It's going to take a bandwagon effort for me to start caring about them again, kind of like the Tigers this year.

I was curious what everyone thought. If USC wins at UCLA, who do you want to see play Ohio State?
I personally think that Michigan got their chance and if this was a playoff they would be done, so goodbye. I hated to see my Irish lose, and so badly again. I will also hate to see the Bruins, my other team lose to USC, but it is nice to see some West Coast love in the BCS, so I will take seeing the Trojans, and frankly, it is hard not to like Pete Carroll, he seems to love his job and his kids.

Umm unless Florida DESTROYS Arkansas I disagree. Florida should have lost to South Carolina and barely beat a bad Florida State team over the past few weeks. They have been anything but convincing in making their case. USC beat the crap out of Arkansas, and yes I know it was at the start of the season but 50-14 or whatever the score was is an asswhopping at anytime of the year.
Both schools knew everyone has been watching them these last few weeks and Florida did not do much to impress sorry.

Trust me you can make a case against USC too. Look at the Arizona game the same Arizona LSU destroyed. They lost to a crappy team in Orgeon. Its never really fair to judge a rivalry game cause most time those are played close even when one team sucks. Trust me I hate the Gators but they find ways to win and thats all that matters all this style points bull shit is stupid and causes teams to run the score up just so they look better than the next team.

My point was simply that after the Michigan loss 4 teams knew their chances rested on the final weeks of the schedule.
USC has looked the best since then. Michigan looked good in the loss, but essentially that was a 1 game knock out tournament and they lost. Florida has looked like crap, except against a 2-9 division 2 school. The rivalry thing is true to a certain degree, but then you can make a good case that a victory next week against UCLA becomes even more impressive then it probably deserves to be. Trust me, I would love for UCLA to send Florida to the Championship, it is just highly unlikely.
If you look at the caliber of the wins since the Michigan loss, you can tell me Florida looked better? I also think a USC team with Carroll coaching and 30+ days to prepare has a better chance to upset Ohio State then a Florida team in the same conditions.

You talk about it like it happened a month ago. It was last fucking week. Just because USC hasn't sucked balls since that OSU v Michigan game that took place SO long ago doesn't mean people will not reference how much they struggled for the rest of the season while discussing who "deserves" to be in the BCS championship game. If you want to count a game played on the same day as the OSU v Michigan game in your version of the season, you might want to look at the fact that Florida beat Western Carolina BEFORE that game.Tyek wrote:If you look at the caliber of the wins since the Michigan loss, you can tell me Florida looked better?

The Florida-Western Carolina game was the same day. Michigan, USC and Florida and Ohio State all knew based on the rankings that they had to have impressive performances to get the number 2 ranking, since Michigan and Ohio State were going to be playing soon. I am sorry if I had the weeks wrong, my mind has been a little preoccupied with my surgery, but they all knew that they had to finish strong. Trust me I would love to see a playoff instead of some stupid computers and a few student grads filling in their head coaches polls deciding a fictional National Champion. I don't think that their is a big difference between the teams, maybe a small one between Ohio St and the Michigan, Florida, USC grouping. I also don't think that a win over Arkansas is something that should put Florida into the Championship. Since you want to look at the whole season look at how USC did against the mighty SCE Division Champs - Arkansas - 50-14. I said if Florida beats them by a similar score then maybe they should have a shot. Florida knows they have to destroy Arkansas to get voters back., lets see if they are good enough to do it.
Edit - I would like to know why Florida was playing a bad division school so late in the season. Anyone know why (I don't mean this in a mean way) I just wonder why they would schedule a game that offered them no poll value and would only possibly result in embarrassment if WC got close. I am sure they could have found a Rice or someone they could beat that would have helped their poll standing in this stupid poll version of the title chase we have. I also know they schedule some games years in advance, but is their some coach connection or something that makes the scheduling make more sense?
Ok off to get my knee cut on again.

I am guessing that it was due to the same reason Texas played Sam Houston State. It was the only school available and willing to play them. When the season was extended by one game, schools started scrambling to add an opponent to their schedules. There was a local story about all of the schools which did not want to play Texas that came out around the time of the Sam Houston State game. The AD wasn't going for smaller schools right off the bat, but one it was obvious that other schools did not want to take the risk of playing a big school...they got stuck with what they could get.
You should just have them amputate above the knee with as much surgery as that thing has had!

Boog is basically right. We're trying to work out a home and home against Miami, but it will be another 3-4 years before we can get that into the schedules. Until then, we're stuck with whoever we can bribe to take an assbeating in the Swamp.

Looks like a Pac Ten school will vie for the National Championship in NCAA football once again. Along with that, the Pac Ten schools are pretty well rounded academically and in other sports...and the Big Ten neglects its women!

LOLYou should just have them amputate above the knee with as much surgery as that thing has had!
They removed the metal plate they installed in January's surgery. It was rubbing my calf and hamstring muscles raw. They also looked over the regrown cartilage that they installed in Jan and everything looked really good. This will hopefully buy me 20 years of painfree knees until I am old enough to replace them.
The cool thing was that my wife is graduating from Nursing school with her Bachelors Degree next week and they let her watch. They want to hire her and if she takes the job, any future surgeries are Free!! She is leaning towards working there over the other offers.
Thanks for the explanation on the scheduling, I figured it was something like that. I can't wait to read this post in a couple of days and see how little sense it makes with all the drugs in me. I guess my post rarely make sense even without the drugs.
