The latest apple commercial

Post by Neost »

Hi, my name's Darby. I'm 33 and I live in my parent's basement. I'm a social
activist-I protest anything that I don't understand. You can probably guess that I'm a pretty active protester.

I've heard a lot about computers lately, so I thought I'd go try one out. I went to this store that sold Windows computers first, and that wasn't very good. I got really nervous because the mouse had what they called a "scroll wheel" on it. I said 'Whoa! If I wanted to be a programmer, I'd be in school, man!' They wanted me to buy a 2.4 gigahertz machine for a thousand dollars, but I had to choose how much memory I wanted, the size of my hard drive, and how fast I wanted the graphics card to be. I said 'Dude, if you want me to work here, then give me a name tag.' One of the clerks pushed me and I left.

On my way home I saw an Apple store. They had a computer there called an iMac that was just what I needed. I didn't have to make any decisions at all. I got half the memory, half the speed of the graphics card, and best of all, its 800 megahertz instead of 2.4 gigahertz. I almost started laughing when they told me it would only be $1500. What a deal! 800 is totally faster than 2.4. Plus they said I could never change any parts, so I don't have to worry about that. They even gave me a copy of a game called "Myst" that looks fantastic! And if I want to play more games, they had at least a dozen that I could pick from.

Macs are much faster than Intel. The computer store guys showed me two programs where the Mac is faster. I don't use those programs, but it's good to know that my computer is faster and smarter than those lamers who buy Windows computers. At the Apple store, they call it 'Windoze.' Ha! Those guys are funny!

The best thing is that I got a mouse with two buttons and no scroll wheel. I can work with that.

My name is Darby, and I bought a Mac. Now would someone please call my mom and dad to come pick me up?

BHAHAHAHAHAH I will have to print that out and give that to my "MAC or DIE" friends at class. Personally I would love to own a nice mac with osx on it for doing graphics work and such. I wouldn't need it for anything else.

Voro, could you explain your second statement please about Palladium?
Just curious.

The only thing I'd want from Mac is this LCD monitor. I've seen it and it looks much better than most LCDs i've viewed in person:

The screen is 3K though.

That display is totally awesome. My ex-boss has one and I tell you what, talk about desk space. Of course, for the price tag, I can get two 1600x1200 LCDs and a dual output video card...but that's the nature of Apple.

I will say this though, video editing and DVD creation on the new G4s is sweet. But then for a decent setup, you're talking at least 4+ grand for the box, then (preferably) two LCDs or CRTs, $999 for Final Cut Pro and another $999 for DVD Studio Pro.

I've had to teach a variety of software on Macs and Windows for several years and I still prefer Windows, although OS 10.2 has pleasently surprised me. Overall, the biggest factor is that you can easily get a comperable or better Windows machine running for 1/3 of the cost of a Macintosh. Until Apple lowers their prices and becomes less arrogant (thx Steve Jobs!), Macintosh will always be niche brand.

you can not directly compare the processor speed of IBM vs Mac due to the fact that all mac's run on a SCSI set-up which in itself makes the computer appear twice as fast to begin with.

Roughly 1ghz G4 Mac = 2.4 Ghz PC

Macintosh technology is far superior, and usually years ahead of its PC equivalent. Macs are also more stable, and they really only crash if you're an idiot and overload them with worthless, 3rd-party system software.

Owning a Mac, however, becomes increasingly impractical from college on out. It's damned near impossible to find spare parts for a Mac, or get it serviced, most places in the country. Add to this the fact that over 90% of computer users own PCs, and you're talking major compatibility issues. You can't print files on other computers, network, or do just about anything without a major hassle involved. And you'll have to wait years and years before any software you want (other than graphics design stuff) is released for your computer. Sometimes it's not. Oh, and did I mention that owning a Mac is damned EXPENSIVE? The problems go on and on.

In a perfect world, everyone would be using Macs. But as we know all too well, this world is far from perfect. For now, just stick to the PCs. You'll be frustrated as hell with your piece-of-shit PC, but your life will be marginally easier.

----
Edit: I suppose it need be asked, because it came up on the FoH boards recently: what's the deal with that stoner chick from the Mac ad? Why is she so popular all of the sudden? She's just some average-looking high school girl; I don't see what all the fuss (Feiss?) is about.
