F**king DVD Menus

Post by Zaelath »

What the hell... put on The Break-up tonight, and not only did they have the "You wouldn't steal a movie" crap which you couldn't skip (but thankfully fast play), but then they had an ad for AIDS w/ David Beckham (amongst other) that you couldn't skip either.

Why do we put up with this? I'm going to start returning movies that force this crap down your throat from now on as "not fit for purpose".

That's what you get for watching the Breakup.

I watched this 2 nights ago. God I hated that movie.

I got dragged to the movie theater to watch it. Thank goodness they serve beer at the Drafthouse.

My wife put in the Little Mermaid the other day. At the begging, it had an option for Fast play (skip all ads) or normal play.

We chose fast play. 2 Previews later, the main menu came up. We hit "play the movie" and 3 Previews later, the movie started.

Generally speaking Miir, there are no menu's at all in pirated dvd's, it's just the movie and thats it. There are some however that do have the menu's (you need to have a dual layer burner to burn them obviously) and the few I have downloaded have had the ad's removed.

That's not true at all. Most of the pirated dvd's I have include menus, and I never burn dual layer.

Some of the pirated ones I have even include all the anti-piracy warnings.

You don't always need to burn as dual-layer.

Just use DVD shrink for free:

It shrinks whatever size movie you have, along with all the extras and menus (all editable to either include them or not to increase video quality, to the size that will fit on a DVD-R.

http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html

All decrypting is done for you. You do need your own burning software though.

looks like this:

You can see exactly how much space will be saved depending on what you remove..extra languages, etc. After you're done, DVD Shrink will take what's left and maximize the quality for a DVD-R.

Weird, I guess I have only ever really downloaded from Demonoid.com, and I have only got one dvd from there with menus, and generally speaking I can barely fit the movie without the menu on a standard DVD.

Then again, I burn it as it is - I don't do any encoding or anything like that.

Yes, well... you're downloading an .iso of a movie that someone else has shrunk with DVDShrink to 4.7Gb format.

As for pirated movies having menus, people are probably thinking more of the mass produced DVDs you can buy in asian markets. What you're getting is what some kid has ripped and torrented.

Best part of properly pirated movies is the fantastic subtitle work.... :)

All that unskippable shit is built on the disc to talk to the firmware on your player on whether or not you can bypass it. That fucking shit drives me INSANE as well. I actually researched it and bought a player that doesn't include instructions on what can or cannot be skipped, so if I want to skip something, it skips it.

There is nothing so fucking galling as paying $25 for a DVD and be forced to sit through 2 minutes of unskippable piracy warnings when the fucking pirated version usually has that shit edited out.

What dvd player did you buy? I am in the market for a new one, and if that does the trick, I may have to pick it up.
