Dear Friends,
My vision for the University of Miami–Florida International University football game was to be a very positive experience for both universities. Unfortunately, the altercation that occurred diverted from this vision.
I appreciate very much the support you have given this university and our football team. A majority of our players showed restraint in trying to prevent the altercation during the recent football game. Unfortunately, we had certain players who acted inappropriately, and they have been dealt with accordingly. Each of those players also realizes the affect of their actions on anyone associated with the University of Miami community. I can tell you that as a staff and team, we regret and are very remorseful about our actions in that moment.
I apologize for the embarrassment that has resulted from the team’s actions. You give so much and are part of a family that includes a great university and great students and alumni that we are all very proud. We will strive to represent this university in a first class manner.
Our supporters are the very best and help us achieve our very best, and I encourage and solicit your continued support and loyalty.
Sincerely,
Larry Coker
Head Football Coach

That was the point I brought up in that conversation. It's similar to how hockey players will throw down their stick first. These people used weapons. They beat other players (Miami kicker for instance) while they were covering themselves up on the ground. That's the part that you don't see happening in baseball or hocky fights.Sabek wrote:Another difference between this and baseball is that I have never seen anyone take a bat into the brawl in baseball. I have never seen anyone deliberately stomping on the backs of another persons legs with cleats.
Actually there was a famous instance in the 60s where hall of famer Juan Marichal of the Giants hit a catcher in the head with a baseball bat while he was up at the plate.Sabek wrote:Another difference between this and baseball is that I have never seen anyone take a bat into the brawl in baseball. I'm surprised, you being an OSU fan and all, that you weren't already familiar with that. Notre Dame, OSU, PSU, MSU fans (maybe all of the Big 10) have been calling Michigan that for years.Sabek wrote:An FSU guy here at work today told me "You can't spell scum without UM"
Ahh never heard anyone refer to Michigan that way.Sylvus wrote:I'm surprised, you being an OSU fan and all, that you weren't already familiar with that. Such hilarity!
That one is even worse. Ann Arbor is a city! There was never even a person named Ann Arbor. The city founders' wives were both named Ann, and there are a lot of trees... iirc it was originally named Ann's Arbor. So you're basically saying "Ann's place full of trees is a whore!" which is completely nonsensical.Kluden wrote:Penn Stater here, and I don't use that joke...always like Michigan actually.
I just think Ann Arbor is a whore, that's all.
I'm a Penn State fan as well...but it's really hard to knock them this year. Ok ok...they have three losses, and those losses are against teams ranked 1st (OSU), 2nd (at the time ND, I think) and 4th (Mich).Kluden wrote:Its ok to make fun of penn state. They haven't been too solid...I take the good with the bad
