Any recommendations? Don't want to spend more than $500.00 on it and all I care about is comfort, not built in speakers, vibrators, cup holders or anything.
I used
at an office I worked at for two years. It's nice, but my warning is to -not- get it if you are 6'2" or above. The shoulders are too low for tall people.
Also, even on the lowest settings the arm rests are fairly high up... perhaps high enough to not allow you to slide under the desk.

Hmm, I'm 6'2". Thanks for the tip. I don't think I could order a chair without actually testing it out first.
Stragi. give me a link for alloria's site. Is it nerdy?
Actually, the Aeron comes in a few different sizes, your company just prolly ordered all "medium" or whatever. The herman miller site has more infoz. They're like 800 bucks, but SOOOO comfy.

I picked up the Best Buy chair AK Octane - High Performance/PC Gaming Chair (first chair mentioned in the thread) on the way home from work today.
Some comments:
The box it comes in looked beat to shit and the front of it looks like it was scribbled all over but it turns out that's part of the design of the box label. So, the chair comes in pretty much the ugliest box and overall look you'll see for outside packaging. I thought for sure it was a returned one but grabbed it anyway. Turns out, it was an unopened new one.
Opening the box, everything is well packaged/wrapped inside and it has a quality look to it unlike the box. (better than you'd expect on a 129.00 chair at least)
Assembly is easy with tool included.
The urethane wheels look like they came straight off the bottom of some Rollerblades. Nice. The whole base in general is nice. Much better looking that your standard low end chair base and cheapo wheels.
The upholstery is nice. It looks like a football jersey design when viewed close up (breathable)
Comparing it to my old chair, the three-way adjustment of the arms is great. up/down, inward/outward, and forward/back. All three of the arm adjustments have good range of motion and can be adjusted easily so no need to worry about getting them set exactly as you can adjust on the fly if you use your chair for more than one thing.
Sitting in the chair gives you a "bucket seat" feel on your back. Good lower back support and side to side feels slightly wrapped around your back providing stability. The back of the chair is pretty high but not high enough to give my head any sort of rest unless I lay my head all the way back and stare at the ceiling. It might be better later at 4am in the morning when I'm slouching lower in the chair about to pass out. The back feels good to me but that's dependent on your body size so there's no way to tell unless you try it yourself.
Tilt back is ok. I'd like the loosest setting to be a little looser as I'm always max tilted back in my chair or rocking. I don't know who would want a locked upright position but the option is there. i think I might appreciate the little extra stiffness of the tile when I'm actually working/typing for a long period of time and not just surfing.
The seat feels good as if little hands are caressing my butt cheeks and thighs...making me feel tingly all over...not really...it's a cushioned seat. Not much to say!
I just went back and sat in my old chair for comparison and it was easy to tell what it was lacking in comfort compared to this one.
Bottom line: This chair is worthy of my ass. 129.00 is a good price although it was on sale for 99.00 last week so if considering it, you might keep an eye out for a sale. It was 149.00 originally. You won't mistake it for the comfort of a lazy-boy but that's not what it's for.
Pros: cool wheels, highly adjustable arms, quality construction for the price.
Cons: having the back so high sort of teases you with the possibility of a headrest although support only goes to your upper back. If could not move at all and operate my computer with eye movements I would so any added comfort is welcome. I'm sure the $800.00 chairs mentioned above are probably better....except for the wheels!
I'll update this thread after a flogging some hours in the chair.
Ended up givign it away. Seat is WAY too soft. Very little back support unless you get the extra add-on's for it.
For me he best office chair is the decent quality secretary's chair (no arms) with a fixed base (no tilting), and a very firm lower back area you can rest your lumbars against.
Most importantly, don't sit in them for more than an hour or two without getting up and doing some stretching and such. That'll do more to make your chair comfy than anything.
I have a leather high back with fixed arms. I love it. I'll never go back to a low back for gaming. This think can lean waaaay back too, which is nice when just chilling and talking to friends. It's pretty big, so I can sit indian style, which I do quit often while gaming. I got it on sale at office depot for like, 125$ as an open item about 3 years ago.
