The thought of having two different colored monitors crossed my mind but only for a second. I decided on reliability (good reports) over the banding issues of the 2407.Aslanna wrote:I haven't actually researched the Acer.. But I don't really like the silver plastic. I prefer the Dell black.
As I've probably mentioned a few times, my room is not brightly lit 90% of the time so I'm not seeing any color on the edges of my screens except black no matter what color they are. (see above dark room pics) If given the choice, I'd go with the thinnest framed monitor with all other things being equal...but in actual usage, the color and frame size doesn't come into play for me.
I also slightly overlap the two monitors (2405 frame edge behind the Acer) to reduce the screen gap.
I like the Acer and Dell equally..well maybe the Acer a little more because it's a generation newer (as would be the 2407) and the picture is a little better IMO. (not by much and not noticable if the monitors aren't side by side)
If not for the huge 2407 problem threads, I probably would have gotten another Dell but all of those issues led me to the Acer which is excellent. It's really nitpicking when it comes to these two monitors as I doubt anyone would be disappointed with either.
I never had much luck with the Card reader ports in the 2405 and use a separate card reader as well.
IMO, there's never too much room on a monitor. I had no problem filling up the second monitor and I'm sure would fill up a third most of the time. Just say no to Alt-Tab!
As for what Masteen mentioned:
Dead pixels scare me. Between my five high res LCDs (including my laptop and two projectors ) I've got 7,747,200 pixels and none of them are dead...BUT...if you read the somewhere else in this thead, I did have one stuck pixel near the center of my first Dell 2405 (stuck on red) and that was enough to drive me nuts. I had to exchange the monitor for a new one which was hassle free but took time.
Reading the comments on the Acer, most have perfect pixels but not all. If I had dead pixels (less than the five required for Newegg's return policy) I'd have to find a way to return it...which completely sucks for everyone involved.
Dell is definately the safer way to go in that respect. The nice thing about LCDs though is if/when you do get a good one, it's likely to stay good for its lifetime..pixels don't start dropping out randomly...typically, they're good from the start or not.
